Funny because my anti-AI professor here in Sweden was interviewed about this. He's currently doing a study on how companies have successfully used AI, and the spoiler is that they have not done too well.TLDR: the business is failing to turn a profit and the AI keeps fucking up inventory, which is what happens every time this has been attempted![]()
The barista is human but an AI agent runs this experimental Swedish cafe
The coffee might be poured by a human hand, but behind the counter something far less traditional is calling the shots at an experimental cafe in Stockholm.apnews.com
I'm sure it'll pan out next time
They seem particularly prone to failure whenever they are applied to real world environments. Probably because unlike how much tech bros want it to be, reality is not so easily boiled down to data, and AI is quite literally incapable of really understanding it.Funny because my anti-AI professor here in Sweden was interviewed about this. Ah I am Filipino but I just happen to be studying in Sweden right now, which is why I am taking a course on AI in management. It has not been a great course honestly, but at the very least it is trying to present a balanced view of AI.They seem particularly prone to failure whenever they are applied to real world environments. Probably because unlike how much tech bros want it to be, reality is not so easily boiled down to data, and AI is quite literally incapable of really understanding it.
Also, you're Swedish? Wow, I was way off. I've been thinking you're Filipino for years.
I get that, but I can see the logic of why they don't.It was genuinely frustrating to be talking about AI regulations, hybridisation of work with AI, etc, etc without anyone actually specifying what AI is doing.
I didn't mean that I expected to be taught how to use AI (that was explicitly not a part of the course, which is why I signed up for it haha), but the entire course is based on the assumption that AI is useful, does make people productive, etc. I expected the course to dedicate some time to prove this assumption, especially since AI is plagued by hype. Not once did someone actually back up the claim that AI makes us more productive, we just went straight into the necessities of creating legislation to encourage AI development and tech sovereignty, blah, blah.I get that, but I can see the logic of why they don't.
Often there's less value teaching you the application (what are you doing and how), because it is often very specific to whatever organisation you then go and join, and you only really know by joining. Trying to teach this might be like trying to show you a ton of examples and hoping one of them is the one you'll go on to use. What the courses are more usually there to do is teach a theoretical framework in which things operate so it's easier for you to make the application work the way you want.
For instance as a comparison, in my science degree the practicals were really there to teach the process of hypothesis - data collection - analysis - conclusion in experimental science. They weren't really about how to use an organ bath, or a mass spectrometer, or a fluorimeter, etc.
I have an extension on my browser for my laptop that removes AI assistance and searching.Weird for Google to announce their search engine will become even more useless.![]()

It's fantastic that we're finally getting away from the lie of democracy and embracing the best method of government: One dollar, one vote.
4-1 against and it happened anyways. The latest big business trend being railroaded.
Even decals and decorations if entirely AI designed would not be great.Man I always have a hard time finding this thread.
Today I learned that there is a Swedish badminton racquet brand, and I got all interested. Turns out it is less than a year old and their entire selling point is that it is "designed by AI". What the fuck would AI know about designing badminton racquets??? Unless they mean the decals and decoration are AI designed, but I don't think so. The racquets are oddly minimalist even. The product listing doesn't say what AI "designed" to make the racquet different from all the top brands.
Clearly they're not very popular because pretty much every item from this brand is on a 50% discount. This is just so stupid.
Yeah I am pretty confident the decals are not AI because they don't look awful.Even decals and decorations if entirely AI designed would not be great.
Hopefully, hopefully they mean they use computers in their design work done by humans, and are trying to use AI as a selling point. Cause if it's actually designed by AI, that's a nope.
That...might not end in total disaster, I guess, but is still of course remarkably stupid.I am 100% sure they asked ChatGPT "what should features should a good badminton racquet have" and then just sent a screenshot to their Chinese manafacturer, based on how the owner talks about their brand online.
Yeah, though odd examples of that have occurred in the past, it's totally a thing now. There's a lot of potential there for people not getting ideas from AI.It's kind of amazing how easily you can directly work with factories these days, but man it makes supporting smaller business more difficult.
It's the only thread in Tech that ever gets posted in. It pretty much has its own dedicated notification and quick access button on the forum listing.Man I always have a hard time finding this thread.
That's exactly why, I always forget this Tech forum even exists. First I assume the thread is in Off-topic, then I check Current Events, then I remember this forum is a thing. It's the only thread in Tech that ever gets posted in.
