Next to no work? Oh right, they're totally not developing Portal 2 and DOTA 2, and very likely working on Left 4 Dead 3 and HL2: Ep 3, all that in addition to maintaining and improving Steam. Those lazy, despicable bastards.
Come on, we all know they're not working on Ep3.

We must keep hope alive. I believe that Portal 2 is the key, but we won't know for sure until April. Until then, we can do naught but wait and hope.

I'm sorry that opening the Steam application and double-clicking on the game you want to play is not easy enough.

Oh that sounds rude........... that's just my situation (Guess I'm blessed?). What's wrong on your end?
Well half the problems come in when doing the first part and trying to open the Steam application. Last month I was getting errors that have been around for six years. Six years! Jesus, you'd they'd they'd at least TRY to bugfix. All the fun of messing around with my registry, yay.

The other half come in playing the games. "This game cannot be played in offline mode" well FUCK YOU too, maybe I don't actually HAVE an internet connection at the moment you cockends. Thank God for MiSteam/MiSteam Prep. Not to mention the updates to single player games can render them unplayable if I can't afford the download.

And yes, you sounded very rude.
Not VERY rude, but come on, Steam-hate doesn't go well with me since I have no viewpoint other than a positive one.

Plenty of Steam games I have though that don't require Steam to be played (Stalker, Hitman, etc). I do enjoy not needing Steam for them, but I use it anyway :D

Also pointless lines at the end of posts with no other purpose than antagonism antagonises me. No apologies now.

"DoTA" was as mod for Warcraft 3(the Real-Time Strategy predecessor of WoW), in which you pick a single hero-unit to play as, where "Pros" would yell at you for sucking and "Noobs" would just run off and die. Pretty much the only way to win was to not play.

Anyone else notice the recent increase in "Buy these TF2 items and receive these free steam games?" Like if Valve only distracts us from HL2:EP3 by updating TF2. Granted the Portal Storyline crosses over into Half-Life, but I don't remember M&Ms shaped robots when I was fighting Combines.

Has anyone else noticed that since Valve brought in the Mannconomy system, that they've been doing next to no work? Most updates after that have been from the community, and it's really pathetic, especially considering how much they made off the Mannconomy, you'd think they could put a little more manpower into it.
Actually since the Mannconomy I stopped paying attention to Valve.

I think with having to maintain all their online games as well as making updates for L4D2 and TF2 Valve might just be spreading themselves thin. But I leave them in good faith, many video game companies announce a game they've been spending years on so I'm sure they're almost done with HL3 by now.

You are the only person I know of that ever gets errors when you open the steam program... sounds more like a problem with your computer.

You can play games in offline mode with steam if you know how to do it, JUST LOOK IT UP.

It's not like Valve isn't expanding Steam service, finishing Portal 2, likely building another Left 4 Dead, and theoretically working on Half-Life 2 Episode 3. They do have more than one franchise to deal with, you know?

Valve has yet to make a bad game in my humble opinion, so they can take as long as they like as long as it ensures a quality product. And like I said, so far they haven't disappointed me.
Pretty much.

Valve has always been a quirky and unconventional dev team, but it seems to work. - they keep producing great games.

So I'm not too worried about the lack of buzz about whatever they're doing in their underground fortress.

Valve's project ipeline is divided into several teams, each one works on a seperate project, only overlapping efforts when necessary. One of these teams (which is only about 12 people) works on Team Fortress 2.
Also, bear in mind that this October, TF2 will be turning four. It's not exactly new news anymore.

Ehh... I will admit that I think Valve needs to do something new. Portal 2 is nice I guess, but they really need to make another Half-Life game or something. Some great game that isn't just a multiplayer toy using the game engine of Half-Life 2.

There's just no pleasing the Valve fanbase.
They make TF updates? They should be making Half Life 3!
They don't make TF updates? It's pathetic!
When Half life 3 comes out, people will be pissed that there's no free Left for Dead sequel with a copy of Portal 2 and some TF updates thrown in.

Right, so all those Steam updates, Portal 2, DotA2 and (most likely) Half Life 3 are all developing themselves, huh? It's too bad they can't reach your impossible standards...

So what you want them to spit out a half-assed game every year like some companies do? Games that you can tell were rushed out because they wanted to meet some meaningless deadline.

As they have said before, the games they make will be done when they are done.

There was a news piece a week or so ago that showed a video interview with Gabe Newell. He said that Valve has somewhere around a little over 200 people working for the company, and that their funding is in house. To me, a little over 200 people seems like a small number when it comes to how complex the game making process is today. Though for them to have funding coming from in house is a very good thing, that way they don't have some greedy little investors lording a deadline over their heads.

When stuff is done, it is done. He even told the class he was talking to that Portal 2 had been sent to be put on the discs and packaged for shipment. Stuff is happening.
