Found this through copious internet searching, and I can only hope someone's played the same obscure game I have.

This is a game I played back in the early-mid '90s on an old Compaq (the system was Windows 95, possibly earlier). It was a simple adventure game with very basic graphics and no sense of perspective.

The MC was some manner of jungle explorer. The game starts out with him and a woman, who gets bit by a spider pretty quickly. The point of the game is to collect items in order to heal her. I recall having to cross a river at some point, but the main plot point I remember is the cannibals! I can't remember if you were doomed to be captured or if 5-year-old me was just doomed to failure, but the jungle explorer gets captured by cannibals and has to escape his cage before being thrown in the pot (old school racism at its best). If you're successful at collecting the items and getting back to the woman in time, the game ends with you saving her life and a helicopter appearing to take her to a hospital.

I *believe* the game came with the system (my family didn't have an internet connection, so it wasn't downloaded, and I know it wasn't bought). I played it around 1995/1996.

Hopefully someone has encountered this game!
This was definately Hugo 3, Jungle of Doom!
Thank you! I *knew* it had jungle in the name (but Google would keep giving me Jungle Run)!

it had a black background, and all objects were colored, 2D polygons. There were a few 45 degree angles. I remember piloting my polygon from room to room, collecting objects and solving simple puzzles. It ran on the apple IIe computer, on 5 1\4 floppy. I don't remember much else.

Maybe it had something to do with mother goose.
The game you are referring to is Gertrude's Secrets. Just played it recently actually for old-times sake. You can still find it on abandonware sites and play it using DosBox. Hope this helps.

I'll try and describe it as best as I can.

It is a playstation 1 game. From what I remember the case, or disk, is white, or silver, with blood spatter with the title in the middle in, I believe, red. The game plays with a top view looking down on your character. You use guns to to shoot and kill everything going from room to room collecting something.

sorry if this is a bad description of the game, I can hardly remember it due to me being like 8 at the time.
I believe the game you are referring to is Loaded. Great game.

Also if that's not it the name 'Overkill' comes to mind, but I'm pretty sure its Loaded. (Or Re-Loaded, the sequel).

so there waz this game i would play on ps1 wen i waz very young, you can choose a character, nd it starts wit a blimp crashing and then your stranded and theres monsters and you need to find a key to open gates. also the weapon u have shoots like plasma balls and its different colors like blue, red etc. one can be fire another can be like ice or something like that. and theres bats flying around nd u can kill dem but they can hurt u nd if u see a monster u needa kill it. its a very creepy game for PS1 u could be a girl or a guy. u can climb up things or jump over huge gaps and u hang on da border of da other side of da gap until u climb up. please i really wana know da name of it! its all dark nd scary. i think da monsters can shoot u bak bcuz they got guns but like wit plasma balls. the game starts wit a blimp dat crashes down or i think its shot down by the monsters. PLEASE HELP! i need to kno!!!
I remember the same game as well! I liked it a LOT! all I can remember is that some gates were locked and you needed keys, bats usually waited on the ground or on ceilings and jumped at you, damaging you (I think a heartbeat sound played at that moment) if you didn't shoot them (they used to scare me a lot) and you had lots of weapons, futuristic weapons, like plasma guns and other stuff. It was 2D if I recall correctly. It was either on PS1 or PC. Very old, it was at least from the 90s or older. The atmosphere of the game was pretty gloomy. I also googled and found that it might have been a metroid game but I doubt it, just like you said, the game had gates that required keys and the game also had like... 9, 10 or 11 weapons if I recall correctly. The weapon list were shown at the top or at the bottom of the screen, I forgot where exactly.
I registered just to tell you this, I've tried to remember it for years and it really pains me not remembering the name!
I haven't found a single thing on the internet, searched everything bout games related to "bats" or "plasma weapons" on websites like giantbomb but I haven't found anything except stuff about Metroid games but I don't think it was a metroid game... I'm 100% sure it was 2D (or at least 3D in a 2D perspective like Trine) and you had to look around for keys to open doors, and the game also had a pretty gloomy atmosphere, It used to scare me a little when I was younger. The game also had pretty immersive sound effects, I still remember the bats because they were scary as fuck, they flew in your face and when you got damaged a loud heartbeat sound played I think.
Not positive, but could it be Heart of Darkness for the PS1 (a boy and his dog are the main protagonists)?

I am not optimistic that anyone will be able to help me with this one, but its one of the only games I haven't been able to locate from my past. The game itself is actually a very basic Adventure Game creator engine, but comes with a few games made by the developer. The engine uses a large grid for the game world, with the player and every enemy and item taking up a square of the grid. Top down view. Very, very basic graphics. You have movement points and must collect keys to get through gates and other doors in the world. I don't even remember it having any sound effects. The one thing I do remember that may make it distinguishable is the one adventure that came loaded with it: The main antogonist was a parody of Bill Gates - Something like Will Fence from Macrosoft, or something dumb like that, and he was trying to take over the world (shocker). Again the graphics were very basic and you had to follow paths around the small world and fight enemies to get keys to progress.. Definitely from early to mid-90s. I probably got it off of the AOL games download site (remember that??) or from a shareware compilation CD (and I had a ton of those growing up). Anyone that can offer any advice would be greatly appreciated (and suprising!).

Edit: I should mention that this game was for the PC, in case that wasn't obvious enough.

If this thread was here a week ago it would have been damn helpful!

I was struggling to remember a story driven game for the ps1 which was like a birds eye view shooter, except you didn't have a gun, you had to massive things on your arms which shot out bombs. The scene I remembered most from the game was in the prologue where the main character was tasked with attacking a town supposedly where an evil army was hiding, in the cutscene after the level the main character stood in the middle of the burning town when he saw people on fire, running before they died, they turned out to be innocent civilians which caused the main character to have a break down.

I have only just recently discovered that that game was Silent Bomber. Y'all should check it out if you can.

Another one you guys can actually help me with is another birds eye view game which I remember vaguely. You could pick a few characters to play as with there own endings. One character I remember was a giant fat guy with the mind of a child who dresses in a giant rabbit suit. WHAT WAS THIS GAME?!

I'm looking for a pc game on windows 95 or 98. There is a pipe on the left that you can take balls of different colors. There are tracks in the middle of the screen and what you have to do is to put the balls into one of the 2 or 3 funnel on the top and let it row down to different destinations. You have to match the color of the ball to the color of the cell. If all cell is filled, you will proceed to the next level and the balls will roll to the left and give you points.
It would be great if anybody remember this game. I have been trying to google it for a long time.
Marble Drop by Maxis, almost positive.

I only say 2010 because the first post (about 148 pages back) was posted in January 2010. Seems to still be going strong though (thankfully!). Glad to help =)

Hey. So I played this when I was really young so I can't offer much help. I played it on playstation 1. You are a girl who goes around the city with minions and you take things apart and (I think) get gems from that. The only level i remember was against a cop that i couldnt beat. It's really cartoony and very Japanese looking. I also remember there was a part called "punish your minions" or something along those lines. They ran on a big treadmill thing and you press triangle, square, circle, or x to light them on fire or have spikes come down and stab them. Sorry if this isn't much help. And thank you so much for whatever help you can give. Whether its the name or more information about it.
Fear Effect, I believe. or the sequel, Fear Effect 2 : Retro Helix. Check it out. Hana is the name of the main protagonist.

I'm hoping someone here can help me ID a game from my memory. I can't really remember the title, but I feel like someone else out there has to remember the game.

It was a classic point-and-click game [similar to Pajama Sam or Freddi Fish] that was based around a kid attempting to escape a nightmare he was trapped within. It had some pretty creepy stuff for a kids game, but it definitely was entirely kid-friendly.

The idea is that there were three main entities in the nightmare, each of which you had areas to overcome before you could wake up.

If anyone can help me ID this PC game from the 90's, I'd be much appreciative.
This could definitely be the Dare to Dream trilogy, but there were no main 'entities', just three different adventures in the whole story. The first took place mostly in a city, the second in a forest (complete with talking animals, trees, etc) and the last was very dark, and took place basically in Hell. Amazing series.

Also looking for a long forgotten game. In this particular title you could play with one of four characters, each had their own colour. The point was to finish the map and move on. To do this you had to plant bombs and lure monsters into the range of them. There were all sorts of utility skills too. There was a versus mode as well, where you could compete against your friends and it was playable on one computer. After the match the losers characters had silly and messed up portraits, but the winner was all happy. The main theme was about mining, you could use a pickaxe to make your way through the map, killing stone and dirt alike.

The game was for DOS, I believe, but I could be wrong here.

tl:dr - A game like Minecraft, but top down and 2d.

Drakan? It fits your description. Can you offer any more details if this isn't correct?

Edit: Check this website http://axsin.zxq.net/female.html for a list of PC games with female protagonists. Chances are your game is on this list.

Thank goodness this website and thread exists. I've been trying to remember a game for a long time now -

It's a simple top-down turn-based hex-tile strategy game. I originally found it on download.com, it was freeware and probably developed by a single person, I think between 1988 and 2004 - I played it on windows 98 and/or windows xp. I've been through all the pages of the right categories there starting from the oldest, and can't find it.

There are only 3 (or 4) units, increasing in strength - the units have two frames of animation. The second unit is this warrior dude with a spear and his animation is raising and lowering the spear, and one of the more powerful units is this silver-armoured guy with an animation of doing jumping jacks.

It's kind of like risk, I think the more tiles you control - (or the more village/castles, can't remember if there were) - the more powerful units you can make. The maps are small and it's a simple game, you could play it in twenty minutes.

When I first read it sounded like Nightmare Ned
