Okay, the website is up and running (although it's very basic at the moment) and I'm looking for some input on what you do and don't like on webcomic websites. Obviously the comic will be on the principle page, I don't want to actively discourage people from reading my webcomic by making them fight through a maze of html bullshit like VG cats does. Underneat the comic itself I'm thinking of having a small rant bar (either vertical as in Megatokyo or horizontal ala Penny Arcade)
Side note: I hate that calendar archive layout. Anyone else have any good suggestions as to an alternative?
That brings up my second point. For the sites design I'm going for a review site motif, something like a goofy version of IGN (with less screen cluttering crap) and to that end I'm going to be adding a few joke articles and joke reviews (which may or may not be a major focus of the site when everything is up and running) I'll be including some of my work (fake news articles etc) and I'd like it if some of you guys considered submitting some material. I'm looking for pieces that poke fun at current reviewing trends such as absurd top ten lists, obviously bribed reviews, mispelled user reviews etc. Give me a shout if you're interested.
SECOND POST: Side note, if any of you guys are decent web designers give me a shout, I'm getting my arse kicked with the site design.
I took a look at it. It's a start.
An itemized list of responses to your questions:
1) I agree with you on hating the calendar archive. My personal favorite is to have a giant list of links to the individual comics, in order. Take a look at the 8-Bit Theater archives [http://www.nuklearpower.com/archive.php] for an example. Unfortunately, the only way I've ever figured out to do this is to manually add a new link every time a comic comes up. I'm sure there's a way to do it automatically, but I'm not too good at complex HTML.
2) I've been looking for someone who would publish my writing for...I'm not sure how long. A few years at least. Writing something for your site wouldn't be quite as good as getting paid to do it, but I'm definitely interested.
3) I'd only consider myself halfway decent at the coding side of web design, but I consider myself good at the actual
design part. I might be able to help you if you get desperate, but I think there are a lot better coders out there than me.
