That's a pretty good point actually. Most of the plasmids that were initially made would probably have been for things like that. We know they had a very successful plastic surgeon. They would have most definitely been a very vain society. A weight loss plasmid, or penis grow plasmid would probably have been the most successful things made.

Until the Civil War erupted. As many have said, Rapture was a free market governed largely by supply and demand. As the crime rate and attacks rose, people would've started wanting slightly more defensive plasmids. So your ones that had basic everyday uses, such as the electric jump-start and the incendiary plasmid, start getting ramped up to defend people. This would also be the time plasmids such as the Big Daddy lure and the security alert would have started showing up. Now, the criminals and rebels would be needing slightly stronger plasmids to combat those new defensive plasmids, so Insect Swarm and others would be coming out. As Bill McDonagh said, "There's an arms race on here in Rapture, but it's not about who can build the best guns and the biggest bombs. It's about who can become less of a man and more of a monster..."

I had a feeling that the weaponised ones started to appear when there was a demand for them. But what the guy was asking is why there was no trace of the original ones left.

Again, it would come back to supply and demand. As things started heating up, people would've spent more money on the defensive/offensive plasmids then on the cosmetic plasmids. Eventually, we can only assume the market for them dried up, so to speak.
