I guess we mostly agree thenVegosiux said:Yes, it is subjective. Or rather, what is subjective is that winning should one's main or only motivation.Midgeamoo said:It's not subjective that the goal for everybody playing something like LoL or DotA is to try and win the game.
See above. And that's an attitude I have a problem with. Maybe I'm more focused on seeing what new trick I can pull in the lane, and seeing how the exchange works, try to outsmart the opponent in a new way; the nexus is just an afterthought. There is no other way around it, if somebody goes into a game saying "I'm going to have fun by running around in circles all game", they ARE doing it wrong because they are stopping the other 4 people on their team from doing what they want to do (what the game was designed for no less).
And yes, I get rather annoyed at people telling me how I should be playing my games. If I play team based multiplayer, you can bet I'm not going to just screw around, cause as opposed to some who enjoy making it not fun for others, I don't want to ruin the experience for other people. That'd be rude and obnoxious.
But I'm still not going to obsess about winning.
I wouldn't say I obsess about winning, it's just that most competitive games aren't fun to lose, because it's just frustrating when you get roflstomped. Sometimes they are fun to lose because it's a very close game, but more often than not one team will clearly have the advantage very early on.
I've no problems with people trying out new things either, that's what helps you improve/helps the metagame progress, but it's often good to do that in non-ranked environments so it's not detrimental to somebody's rank that they have worked hard for etc.
