I have visited these forums daily for close to half a decade
At first I thought this was outrageous.

Then I realized that for me it's over half a decade. And then I felt sort of stunned.

As for what keeps me coming back? Well the surprisingly insightful content, mostly. The community is largely pretty cool as well, and it's actually my main source of geek-related news. And for some reason, all the history I got with this community means something. The insanity of the Zynga incursion that one March Madness, certain community legends who are now long-gone, and simply seeing certain topics return over and over again. It's a comfortable homeliness, in a way.

I've been wondering the same thing. I've dabbled in them, but they never really seemed to do much.

And that for someone so close to Rotterdam and The Hague, from what I gathered there's plenty of geekery going on there. Man, I used to have to rely on Den Bosch, and that town is so small compared to those two.

Why do you want to hurt me?
What did I do to deserve this?

:p
*raises palms of peace* It is just jokes! I, of course, remember that you are a level 20 Necromancer.

As a serious point though, it was tremendous fun just hanging out with you and the other splendid folk. Perhaps it is that more than anything that keeps me coming back to the forums; the most excellent people.

Perhaps I too should explore this user group business.

Congratulations on 10k posts, and don't feel bad about it taking five years; I'm coming up on my third and just barely passed 2k.

As for what brings me back: Jim, Yahtzee and the forums, though I have been far less active of late due to the PS4/XBone, SJW/Sarkeesian threads popping up everywhere and the general lack of really interesting topics, with a couple of exceptions here and there. Of course, there's these kinds of threads, which always attract the long-standing members, making them a joy to read through.

Plus, the community rocks a hell of a lot more than any other site's, so I ain't leaving any time soon.

Hmmm...the signal to noise ratio and the moderation is pretty good here.

In that there's usually some signal buried amongst the noise, and the moderation is flawed, not worse than useless.

Who are you? I don't think I have ever seen you on these forums before, so you can't have had 10,000 posts... You must hang in a super-secret user group and chat about sinister lady-things whilst pretending that you actually just talk about chocolate and shoes...

I am on to you...

Well, to be fair, we legitimately talk about chocolate and shoes too.

Trust me though, I'm much less feminist in real life. :p

I stick around because I like talking about games in an environment where some modicum of good manners is enforced.

Also because, believe it or not, I'm actually just a little bit fond of some of you crazy sods.

Granted, the current Sarkesian/SJW/gender... thing has gotten rather tiresome. But hey, I weathered the fake geek girls drama, the ME3 ending fallout, the death of PC gaming and more besides. This too shall pass.

Maybe I should look into these mysterious 'user group' things. Which are the good ones?
It's me you're fond of, isn't it?
Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. :p
Your discretion is appreciated.

Can't have anything compromising my grumpy ol' bastard image. I got a rep to maintain!

Anyone up for a new phone app to be developed, along the lines of Tinder, which makes you aware of other geeks around you? You could filter by geek-discaplines and then meet up for some gaming, or a movie, or a cosplay making workshop... what ever you want!

Anonamously letting others know you are out there without having to don a t-shirt of obviousness! I know when I am out and about nobody would suspect that I am into video and board games, or sci-fi and B monster flicks!

Boredom and habit, I think. I'm too lazy to find a new haunt.

Though there are several people on the site I enjoy seeing around. In fact, several of you will not be killed by the impending alien invasion per my request. You will merely be enslaved and put to hard labour, working 90 hours a week in the lava pits....

I've said too much.

Congratulations on the massive amounts of posts. I'd call that time well wasted :)

As for what made me come here, stick around, and later join the forums: Jim, Yahtzee and the occasional fun bit of news or content I always seem to find here. And so far it's proven to be a fairly civilized place to discuss games and other topics.

The people and the variety I think is what keeps me here. The people who stick around tend to be worth keeping and theres a few newbs who are top notch too. Lets hope they stick around too

the only downside is all the feminism/SJW threads that pop up daily and it gets annoying very quickly. Im not saying it shouldnt be discussed but it shouldnt be discussed constantly

Stay classy escapists!

I'm not really sure.
These forums have really slipped in quality.
I'm mostly here out of stubbornness I suppose.

Hah, yeah that'd help.

But what I did was, when I found out there was a boardgame store in my local town, ask for things like local activities surrounding boardgames, whether there was a D&D community, that sort of thing. After finally daring to take that step I found myself some fellow geeks. I repeated the step when I moved to a new city in Belgium and I've had a fantastic circle of nerdy friends ever since.

Congrats on you're 10K posts! I'm here because I feel like I have friends here. It's also the only place I can really talk about games without being talked down to or, made fun of or what have you...I really like the community that's grown on these forums. I've joined a group or few but I don't chat too often because of forgetfulness...I started coming here for the videos and, articles but this little forum has kept me here for many, many years.
