Sorry, I felt the "..." pause was needed before I address this issue.

I have a problem with one answer threads. Threads like "Do you think that homosexuality is natural or a choice?" These types of threads honestly only have one answer. If you say, "it's a choice" you will be immediately quoted by 20 different people saying how much of a douche you are.
Now, if a person were even to bring clear evidence to support their answer, chances are that person would still be called a douche.

Maybe it's just me, but haven't you noticed a few of the one answer threads popping up?

Also, does it make you a mean, rude or uneducated person to answer differently from the norm?

I have I also don't like all the threads where you simply leave an answer and never come back I hardly call that discussion and isn't that what the threads here are about (this applies for your complaint as well, if there is not discussion and just flaming it hardly has any value as a good thread)

I must agree with BillyShakes on this one.
Then again, my mind is currently in disarray...
One does not believe it makes one mean, rude, or uneducated.

Nope, people are entitled to their own opinions nowadays. It's funny how the world has become.

And yes, there are different threads. Some are simple, some are more complex. You may elaborate as much as you please, and if you do, you'll come off as a very intelligent and alert human being who's opinions are valid and well thought.

If you answer with one sentence, well. Maybe not so much. Although, there are restrictions.
There's only so much you can reply if someone asks you if you like white or black socks better.

Anyway, the gist here is to reply with your opinions and be capable to put some reason behind them so you may defend you points.

One answer-threads are generally feature closed questions. They do not generally generate discussion. I dislike them anyway.

Oh, and if you answer differently from the norm, it just means you have a different opinion to other people. If people call you a douche based on that, it is hypocrisy.

If you have valid evidence for your answer that is different from the norm then it can make for interesting debate.

So no, I have no problem with such threads.

Well if you mean really simple threads with little discussion like a yes or no answer or thanks I didn't know that then yes those threads are annoying. I have to use the 50cent actually did do a voice in MW2 thread as there was little to no discussion except basically thanks I didn't know that and move on.

I dislike threads with one question, its boring, everyone either attacks people for answering or just says the exact same shit that 30 other people did before them. Whats the bloody point?

Also in the spirit of keeping things fresh

"One answer threads" such as "What is the name of that song from Watchmen" are indeed pretty worthless because they are factual questions that could be answered with googling and are not open to any discussion.

"One answer threads" such as "Is homosexuality a choice" are not worthless at all, no matter how worthless you think the answer that you don't agree with is.

Actually, this is what I'm talking about! Thank you. Basically, I dislike those threads. I'd love to have a discussion about those things, but everyone has the same exact answer.

In a thread like "Is homosexuality a choice", most people will answer "It's not something you're born with" in order to not offend someone.
If someone were to say that homosexuality was a choice would most likely be yelled at by the general public.

I saw someone answer different from the norm in a thread like that and the person, who had good points and was not a biggot by any means, was quoted by 20+ people, who told him he should stop being such a close minded asshole.

When it comes to a thread posing a particular question such as the one pointed out above there is only a multiple choice sort of answer. That's the whole basis of a poll... You pick ONE answer for a question posed. Unless I'm misunderstanding. If so please correct me.

No I'm joking obviously. But yes i totally agree, these threads are irrelevant and annoying. And its weird how such things could occur on a forum such as this.
Even the escapist is not exclusive to saints and young endearing crazymen(absurd I know but it is the truth).

I debated with a guy about healcare for a while, he was raising good points against Obama's bill yet people still attacked him with blind hatred. It happens c'est la vie.

Major issue with polls is that it has a decent chance of ending with no discussion. People will just vote and not bother to write anything down. Making your thread look bad because nobody posted anything.

My favorite show of all time. That just made my day.

OT: I have no problems with one answer threads. I just leave my answer and move on. If people start bitching for me saying "Yes" or "No", then that's their problem, not mine. Its not my fault that some people cant accept that people have sperate opinions from their own. These are the people who insult others because they have views differing from their own.

I am confused indeed. What was your point?
My point was that it's going to happen because its going to happen. Not every person who joins the escapist is going to have a good discussion everytime they post (for some less than others) I think my point was it happens it's bad but what are you going to do (other than make threads that absolutly need more explained answers of course).

Yes, thats reasonable. I was mainly quoting you to give you props for the Fresh Prince theme. Wasn't intending to call you out or anything. My actual statement about the topic was directed more towards the general discussion of the thread.
