Opening bands

Best opening band I've seen was Shinedown opening for Disturbed.

Worst? some random german screamified metal band opening for Stuck Mojo. Can't even remember their name.

I saw Vampire Weekend when they were supporting the Shins. That was pretty cool in retrospect, though I probably would have forgotten about them if they hadn't then become very famous.

As for worst, I've had to endure the Foals and Crystal Castles twice because they have been supporting people I wanted to see. They both supported Blur on the day I went to see them (while people on the other day got Vampire Weekend, Amadou and Mariam & Florence + the Machine, lucky bastards).

I once saw Dweezil Zappa open for Dream Theater. That was awesome.

I also saw Maroon 5 open for the Rolling Stones. (I don't personally like Maroon 5 for the most part, but as far as opening bands go they were pretty good.)

When I went to see Devildriver, the people on before were Suicide Silence, and Behemoth. I think I actually enjoyed both more than Devildriver themselves, and I've been into them ever since.

I was at an Iron Maiden concert where Dream Theater opened. i think thats as good as it gets.

I saw that too, I was at the GM Place show in vancouver, they're still pretty tuff.

I saw Guns N Roses on their Canadia tour. The first opening act was some Canadian band named Danko Jones, they were meh. They were the first up and they performed for what the local paper called "a bar sized crowed of fans". Musically they were ok, all their songs sounded the exact same, and at one point the lead singer (also named Danko Jones) told the crowd that when they cheer his dick gets hard. Now, this was my first rock performance, so that might be common, but it was kinda weird. Thats the kinda comment you say when the crowds really into it and they would cheer more for the randomness of it than anything else, but when the crowd was kinda meh, it was just weird.

Then Sebastien Bach and Skid Row came on... yea. Awesome.

When I went to see Devildriver, the people on before were Suicide Silence, and Behemoth. I think I actually enjoyed both more than Devildriver themselves, and I've been into them ever since.

Why would Behemoth be a opening band for Devildrive.As far as I know,Behemoth are more know,and a much better band,and more successful.

OT:I've only ever been to 1 concert.But the opening bands were okay.Even if I don't remember their names.

I didn't see it personally, but I think the time Coheed and Cambria opened for Trivium and Slipknot (Why? I don't know) qualifies them as best opening band ever.

I saw a band from Canada play here in Blighty a few weeks ago, but though I enjoyed them, the entire reason I went to the gig was to support a friend whose band was one of the two opening acts. My friend's band was actually better, I think...

Oh, and when I saw Reverend and the Makers play last year, there was this great opening act, Yves Kleines Blue (an Australian group), who were pretty awesome. Nowhere near as good as Reverend (especially since at the end, the frontman of Reverend and the Makers marched outside and gave a separate free acoustic gig for everyone ), but still pretty great .

I saw Tiger Army at the request of a friend. I didn't care for them. Their opening act however was The Street Dogs, which I quite enjoy.

Danko Jones opening for Saxon opening for Motörhead(Motörizer-Tour08-09/seen this line-up three times,yaay!!!).

Sodom/Kreator/Destruction(2001/They changed the order at every concet of the tour, but saw this combination both times I went)

I went to see Iron Maiden in Twickenham stadium with A7x opening. It was pretty meh because I'm not that into A7x but Bat country and beast and the harlot were fun songs.

I was at Hollywood Undead and Escape The Fate opened.

Now Escape The Fate are awesome but the crowd was just so resistant and barely did anything... most pitiful wall of death I've ever been in.

Datsuns for Velvet Revolver - pretty good, but felt like a pale imitation of the classic rock band persona that Slash and co. carry so well

A bunch of shit bands for Green Day - Green Day were good, though I'd never go see them now, just not into that anymore

Robert Cray for Clapton - bloody good, stood out as being a distinct artist from Clapton yet complementary

All the opening bands i have seen have not exactly been terrible, but none have been good either. They tend to be so lukewarm and average that i for the life of me can't remember what any of them were called. Except one swedish band called andreas grega, which are a combination of a normal and a retarded name so that stuck with me for some reason. Though they were just as average as the others.

Hedley opened for Bon Jovi and I liked it more than Bon Jovi because it's Bon Jovi. I like Hedley. They're cool.

I wanted to go to a Dragonforce concert just because Turisas was opening for them. I LOVE Turisas. I would've loved to go, but it was just bad timing. I wouldn't have anyone to go with me to a metal concert anyways.

The only other opening bands I remember were two crappy openers for Motley Crue, including one by that guy from Aerosmith. Bleh.

Machine Head open for Megadeth,
Fuel open for Aerosmith,
Deep Purple open for Lynyrd Skynyrd,
Lamb of God open for Metallica,

and next month I'm going to see:
Avenged Sevenfold open for Disturbed (or the other way around),
Anthrax and Slayer open for Megadeth (or the other way around).

I've been to some pretty sweet shows.

Never seen Lights, but I want too. Sonic Syndicate does not deserve to tour with Nightwish. Probably because I don't know who they are.

Sonata Arctica did a wonderful job opening for Nightwish. The only problem was Tajra wasn't with the band anymore...

What's the point of seeing Nightwish post Tarja?

I went to a Rush concert and there was no opening act. Just three straight hours of Rush. It was amazing.

I also went to Gigantour two or so years ago. High on Fire opened, and were just awful. So bad that when Job for a Cowboy came on next, I was blown away by their vocalist because of how much better he sounded than the previous vocalist. Children of Bodom was my favourite part of the show, even though they've gone downhill for the last two albums.

Devildriver are much more well known, and successful...it's a genre thing, black metal is fairly underground, while groove is much more popular.

How good you think they are isn't a factor.
