Quick and dirty. I've got a thirteen hour road trip today and it's five thirty in the morning as I write this so I do hope you'll forgive the focus of function over prose as I write this.
I editted one sentence from this post. I changed, "A small division of fireflies would follow the infantry in but the main force would remain on the eastern flank ..." to "a small division of fireflies would follow the infantry in but the main firefly force would remain on the western flank..." I did this to clarify my intentions and correct an east/west confusion on my part. If this is unnacceptable, I will change it back.
The British 2nd, on the borders of the Soviet 70th
Monty saw the scatterred line of the Soviet 70th and ordered his Cromwells to surge forward. The idea was to get them in and out before any of the Russians could man their serious artillery. They were to cut through, perforate as much as they could and then come to rest on the 70th's southern flank. The infantry would come in shortly after the Cromwells (though Monty ordered the shelling to begin immediately, a safe distance from his fragile Cromwells of course). A small division of fireflies would follow the infantry in but the main firefly force would remain on the western flank, waiting to side-swipe any tank force that tried to advance on the Cromwell's position.
That was the plan anyway. Monty couldn't have been said to be calm while the Cromwells broke the (very surprised) Soviet line. The sounds of war are never calming.
Meanwhile, at the Canadian 1st
"All men forward! We've been given orders to close ranks with the American 9th! Speed is an issue boys! We're not leaving anything behind but I'll be damned if I see a man on cigarette break under my watch. Pack your shit lets Move! Move! Move!"
Alright, Rex, thanks to Google and its network of world surveillance devices, no doubt used to prepare for the global invasion to establish a Googalian Regime, I have used Google Earth to figure that the Canadian 1st Army starts off near the Netherlands in a location spread between approximately 280 and 310km from the 2nd Army's initial (May 18) front against the Soviet 70th Army. Now, I will work with the men 280km away, since they will be the first columns to reinforce Montgomery's 2nd Army. Depending on which day the march begins on, and how fast they move, they will arrive at a variety of times. A force moving with haste on well paved roads across friendly land can make about 80km a day with artillery, infantry, and supply columns keeping up. Forces moving on good roads in friendly territory with little regard for keeping supply lines right behind, like one of the German blitzkrieg spearheads, can probably manage upwards of 120km a day.
Both of these would require maintained, paved roads and sufficient transport for heavy equipment, including tank transports. British forces in World War Two did not use tank transporters as much as the Germans or other factions, so their advances would actually be slower, keeping in mind that the British armor would have to travel on its treads, meaning tanks would have to be maintained more and roads would suffer. However, I can assume that 1945 Britain had enough transports for your men to manage a good 70-80km a day when moving with speed and with supply lines keeping up, as would be the British custom.
Now, a fast advance to the Elbe would be fishy prior to May 18, possibly warning the Soviets and breaking secrecy to a degree. Getting to close to the Elbe too early might also be risky, since it might signal a buildup along the agreed dividing line of Germany. So, a reasonable advance speed could manage upwards of 50-60km a day, to prevent suggesting aggressive intent. Basically, you have a choice of when to begin moving troops to the front, and how fast. Depending on what you detail, meaning if you begin moving troops prior to May 18, when you arrive, etc. I will respond accordingly.
So as of right now, the Germans (me) are on the 20th and have taken Berlin, correct? Where as the others have yet to engage? Just slightly lost. Sorry. If so, do I have to do teh casualty report and all?
No. The battle hasn't been played out. There is no victor yet.

Li Zongren pushed open the heavy oak doors, they creaked at the hinges giving away their age, he mused that they had been around for several generations of Chinese leaders to walk through them, but he did not have time to think, clutch against his chest was a neat brown document.
He walked into the meeting room, around a long table several uniformed men yelled across the table at one another, thick cigar smoke filled the air, the KMT and CPC could rarely agree on anything, there ideology and tactics were polar oposites, it was only through the iron hand that both the faction leaders had over their followers that kept this "alliance" going.
The shouting faded suddenly as Chiang Kai-shek, leader of the KMT, silenced them with the slight of his hand and waved Zongren towards him and Mao Zedong leader of the CPC. Zongren placed the Document infront of them as the erie silence continued save for the occasional sound of a page turn. The silence continued as Kai-shek slid the document to Zedong, Zongren felt as though he had been standing for several hours. Zedong closed the document, the silence was broken as he uttered but three words "Its has begun".
The effect was instant as the generals murrmured and looked at one another as one of the generals spoke up
"What! so soon?!"
"of course Cheng, Churchill is but rabid dog and his old master Roosevelt yearned for war"
"Yes but surely Tru-"
"Truman is no better! our mistake was assuming he would be hesistant until we could prepare for this eventuality"
The argument contined as more generals joined in, one general flicked through the small document
"It says here that a German force is assisting them?"
"Hah, they ally with an old enemy?"
"and the old ally of Imperial Japan no less!"
"enough!" Kai-Sheks voice cut through the talking "Although the Allies may have put our plans in motion sooner than intended we cannot forget what we have to gain"
"indeed" Mao chimed in "while the Capitalist West and Stalinist East burn, China shall rise, but in order for this to pass we must act in unison, we cannot allow chinese affairs to be influenced by outsiders any longer"
Kai-shek continued "We had estimated the war to begin in December next year, due to this error The Great Economic Industrialisation plans are not complete and we will not be able to supply our armies effectively, to this end we will need to rely on the USA or USSR for our Military supply, we intend to receive them from both for as long as possible"
Mao looked across the table, the look of confusion on the generals faces clear "allow me to explain, for as long as China stays neutral both the USSR and USA will attempt to align us to them, we can exploit this, of course our interests in Japan will cause a clash between us and the USSR, it was an unforseen tragedy that Japan would opt to become a puppet, it complicated matters, we have no use for the barren land of the East Soviet land, none the less, Japan is vital to accelerate the Industrial plans and will be ours"
Kai-shek turned to Zongren who was still standing "you shall speak with the USSR, extend our grief that yet another unjust war has been launched against them, reassure them about the Sino-soviet pact, extend our gratitude for their assistance in the previous war and enquire about purchase of Military weapon, we must stay out of the war as long as possible to allow the Industrial plans to take effect"
"as for you Cheng" Mao added "you will go to America and extend the same condolences and ask that the American supplies continue to be sent"
"yes sirs!"
"and Cheng, request ship transports, lots of transports"
So, just curious, isn't China already aligned with the US against Japan, and so when the Soviets ally with Japan on May 24, wouldn't that put Russia immediately against China, since China has no greater ability to communicate the events of the assault than the Soviets? This is interesting, I was just wondering what exactly is going on right now, because the fact that everything is in the open suggests several days after the opening attack.
Canadian 1st army. 280km west of The British 2nd army. May 18th.
Their orders were clear. The assault started on the 18th and they weren't to make a move a moment before then. Canadian support could be very useful, but their support alone wasn't worth ruining the advantage of surprise. On the 18th they would head west at 50km a day, a leisurely pace. On the 19th they would keep pace with another 50km day. The main assault on Berlin would take place on the 20th and, past that date, surprise wouldn't be as useful as placement. On the 20th the Canadian army would haul ass across western europe at between 70km and 80km a day. The next day they would do the same. And on the 22nd it would be a quick liesurely effort to reach the current position of the British 2nd. From there they could offer there assistance to the limeys or throw their bulk against the soviet western front, depending on the need.
Two easy days, two tough days, and one easy day would bring the Canadian first to within usefull strike range in Europe well rested and in only five days. Three days after the brunt of the assualt would make them, while far from the inital actors, useful cavalry and support...
Eh, the Canadians were use to it.
Just to simplify:
Candians set out on the 18th.
May 18th (Initial Assault): 50km. 230km left till closing ranks.
May 19th: 50km. 180km left till closing ranks.
May 20th(2nd Battle of Berlin): 70-80km. 100-110km till closing ranks.
So as of right now, the Germans (me) are on the 20th and have taken Berlin, correct? Where as the others have yet to engage? Just slightly lost. Sorry. If so, do I have to do teh casualty report and all?

Since the bombs never dropped and other events didnt take place before after may i assumed that i had regained my original Pre- 2-Sino-Jap war borders so Japan had its puppets but was mainly focused in Japan and Korea, if something as powerful as the USSR aligned with Japan i thought it was apt that China take a step back since both its backers are now in major confliction, China will align America though.

Alright, my understanding of the situation was this:
As of May, 1945, China is still locked in combat during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The majority of the Japanese Army at the time is present in China, with its land holdings in China and Manchuria still standing. 35 divisions of the Imperial Japanese Army are stationed in China, even though a more dire situation exists in the war with America. China and the United States are already allies, with American supplies flowing into China at a yet insufficient rate to fully keep its men going, and US troops even saw combat in Burma from 1941-1944. So, China is currently fighting the Japanese, and when the Japanese take notice of the Allied "betrayal" in Europe, they will jump to fulfill their plans to strike up an alliance with Stalin. The local Red Army forces will scrap their plans to attack Japan as agreed at Yalta to be set for three months after victory in Europe. Instead, the May 24 alliance will pit the Soviets directly against the Chinese, with the elite Japanese troops holding their regions. On August 6th and 9th, the atomic bombs will drop as they did in reality, forcing Japan's surrender even while allied to mighty Russia. The 35 divisions of elite Japanese troops will be assimilated into the Red Army as three new Guards Armies, including one Guards Tank Army initially supplied with the remaining Japanese tanks to be replaced by copious Soviet models. Right now, you are concerned with kicking Japan out.
I am really, really sorry about not posting for so long. I had family stuff, got really busy, and had a slight bout of depression. Can anyone please inform me on the current situation? I am really sorry about not posting...

Don't sweat it. Really, nothing has happened. The Allies in Europe haven't completed their offensives, so I can't reply on the collective front. Just try and post regarding the grand scheme of your troop movements to begin the war.
Today in history class my Teacher asked us what we would do as the allies in 1942. I used some of the strategies suggested here for it. I thought it was pretty cool.
Alright, so, I have yet to hear of the advance of the Allied moves in the south, near Austria, and I have only heard a bit from the Americans across the front. For this to work, we all need to add fuel to the fire as needed. I would, but I've exhausted what I can say at this point.
I think I'm out of things to say. British troop movement is accounted for. Canadian troop movement is accounted for. (Correct me if I'm wrong in either case.) We still need America. Have we heard from the French? Poland and the Wehrmacht are already moving I think.
So were just waiting on France and USA right? If you want to give France a break this turn, I'll pilot them like we would have done if a player hadn't shown up. In which case their single army will follow the same speed per day schedule as the Canadians and will head toward Munchen until they are inside the Austrian border.
America isn't as easy. We need him to submit moves, no one can do it for him. But that is just one player and we should be able to work around him if we have to. Like I said though, correct me if I'm wrong. If I've missed something, or you need something more out of me or canada, tell me and I'll provide it.
I think that America's moves could be fabricated from what little we have from him already. The 1st in hot on the heels of the Wermacht, and the 9th is engaged with the Soviet western line. (Across the Elbe)His planes are providing air support. We just need his troop movements in the South right? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we have all troops in the southern sector applying pressure on the Soviets there. Not launching an all out attack, but making it so they cant swing north. If he doesn't post soon, we could always just assume thats what he's doing.

I almost forgot. I PMed France, and he has dropped out, so you take over the French until someone else comes in. Otherwise, we need the moves of the 8th Army in Austria.
Sorry about not posting. I hope this is acceptable.
0803 hours
May 20,1945
Polish 1st Corps - 4th Infantry Division - 1st Independent Regiment - 6th Foot Combat platoon - Squad A
11 miles west of Gdansk landing site
Lance Corporal Wysocki kept his head down as he ran through the open field in the early morning spring air. He quickly ducked down behind an old stone wall that was probably some marker out here in the fields. The 1st Corps had been chasing the Soviet's 19th army westward almost all morning though they still seemed to turn and fight every once in a while. Wysocki's squad had already lost two men to careless movement and over confidence.
Wysocki carefully leveled his Lee Enfield rifle over the wall and scanned what lay ahead. A pair of old buildings, barn and farmhouse, were settled ahead clearly worse for the years and now obviously changed by the war; most windows boarded up and small lengths of barbed wire were strewn about. A Soviet truck of some kind lay in front of the barn, it's rear wheels gone and clearly abandoned.
"What now?" A soldier next to Wysocki asked. "Do we have any tanks coming?" He looked young and sounded younger.
"No." Sounded a voice from Wysoki's other side. "Like was explained already, the majority of the armor division is at the south of our line. Command wants to keep the enemy pinned against the cost as much as possible so the ships can get them. Besides, they certainly don't want them interfering with the other Corps. Pay more attention soldier."
"Err... Yes Sargent." The soldier responded. Wyoski considered that most of the squad didn't know how to deal with the new Sargent, Rybatie what a weird name, rumor was that he had been in some high position but was put in this squad as some kind of punishment by the Generals themselves.
There was no more time to think though as a rifle suddenly barked from somewhere in the house and Wyoski could hear a bit of stone chip as the bullet bounced off the wall.
"Commies! Everyone down!" The Sargent shouted as more rifles began to fire; some from the house, some from the squad outside.
Wyoski crawled slowly to the end of the wall where he could lean around just a bit of the edge. Seeing a barrel flash from one of the windows he quickly sighted on the helmet that he could see and squeezed off a shot. He was rewarded with the sight of the head jerking back and slumping away from the window. "Got one!" He called.
"Good. Two left!" Sargent Rybetie shouted. "Zajak! Jaworski! Go around the left side and in!" He yelled to a pair of troopers that were a short distance off behind a tree. As they prepared to run off the Sargent brought his Bren machine gun to bare of the house and sprayed short burst over the windows forcing the Soviets to take cover.
...
Several minutes later and the house had been thoroughly searched. Several rifles and a few machine guns as well as ammunition, fuel, and rations as well as an old mortar had been found. The Soviet troops had been forced to abandon all kinds of things due to the surprise attack. But the best had yet to come.
"Hey Sarge You won't believe this."
And Wyoski did have to admit that it was hard to believe. But sitting clear as day in the middle of the barn was an almost complete legendary T-34 tank. Wyoski knew that the commanders were offering extra bounties for whatever supplies and weapons the troops could acquire, and the prize for one of these fighting machines was higher then anything else. He could hardly believe his luck but that wouldn't last long.
"S-Sarge! Tank! It's a tank!" Came the call from outside followed almost immediately by the blast of a canon shell erupting in the ground.
Wyoski sprinted outside as the Sargent was already shouting orders. True enough a fully functional T-34 sat at the bottom of the slope looking worse for the ware but still peppering the house with machine gun fire.
Wyoski dove for cover behind the broken Soviet truck as another shell exploded nearby. He could hear the Sargent calling for Private Krol, who carried the squad's PIAT, but Wyoski could already spot his twisted unmoving form.
A grenade exploded somewhat near the tank as the Sargent switched ideas. "Nowicki! Get someone on the line! We need support now!" Nowicki, who had smartly stayed back on the other side of the house was already yelling into his backpack radio about coordinates or something. Wyoski couldn't hear as a much closer explosion sent his ears ringing.
Later, the others would say that it only took about 90 seconds for the high explosive shells from a nearby warship to start landing on the tank, smashing it into an unrecognizable mess of metal. But Wyoski would always maintain till his dying day that that was the longest 90 seconds he had ever experienced.
Err, uhhh... I can try, but I got that map from Wikipedia, so I'd have to give you the file all annotated and such rather than remade. Would you rather work with the old one or use the hypothetical scribbled on version.

If it's going to be too much work, I can get by, but I can just do with a basic map of were some things are (you could even just put some blobs on the map that says "Here Be Ruskies" if you want), and it's more just where the allied troops are that I care about. If you can do it, thanks, if not, then oh well, I'll figure it out.

Actually, luckily for you, there isn't much for you to respond to at this point. Right now, I'm still waiting for everyone to finish the very opening moves of the war. Basically, I take people's troops movements and make my responses. Right now, all you have to do is put your plan into action. Then I can get the full picture for you, but right now, the job should actually be pretty easy. Just do what you would do to start off your offensive in the south, if anything, based on your original opening plan. If you need help with that, in particular, just ask me or Rex. In fact, I think Rex has the best idea of what your opening plan is, since he formulated most of it.
