I've always loved the Original Trilogy (4-6), even with the unneccesary changes to the special Edition. And for the record, the ewoks are FUCKING AWESOME!

Episodes 1-3 had a lot of negative moments *thumbs over to the Gungans*, but overall, it was still an enjoyable romp. The Clone Wars cartoon episodes were epic, although I can't say anything about the animated series/film. Plot aside, I really dislike the art style.

Outside of movies, my favourite post-trilogy sagas are the Thrawn Trilogy and the X-Wing series. Outside of them, there are ups and downs, although I ignore the Yuuzhan Vong series and everything beyond. Anyone who's read the first Yuuzhan Vong book can guess why!

Still, in the grand scheme of things, NOTHING tops the "Knights of the Old Republic" era!

I like them all besides the new animated series the old 10 minute ones with a lot more action and less Anakin(my least favorite character. I like the old ones more but I like the news ones for their battles and some of the story

I prefer numbers IV, V, and VI to the new ones, still they were fairly enjoyable.

As for the animated ones, the old animated clone wars was pretty enjoyable, but the new one looks like crap (In both meanings of the phrase).

Overall I truly enjoy the Star Wars Saga.

I hate all three originals, the only one I really like is Revenge of the Sith because it shows the slow process of Anakin's corruption and the way Palpatine seizes power through fear and manipulation of the masses. I also don't like any of the Indiana Jones movies.

George Lucas fans, you may have your way with me now.

I liked the Original Trilogy (IV-VI), but only after the late ninties rework. As for the Prequel trilogy, I liked the real "anything is possible" element to the arch. I'm not talking about Skywalker's rise to Jedi status. That's a relitively minor story explaining the main bad guy in the Original. The story I'm talking about is the rise of a minor senator from a backwoods planet who, through patience and an incredibly complex and long-standing plan with a lot of back-up plans that lasted at least the 25 years of the arch (and probably a good 20 years before Episode I), became the Emperor of the Galaxy. That's right: Emperor Palpatine's story is a much better story than the barely covered Jedi carreers of Skywalker and Kenobi.

Interestingly enough, that makes the rebelion in the Original Trilogy look more like a bunch of dicks trying to destabilize the Galatic Empire. Talk about short-sightedness.

As for the cartoons, if you edit out the annoying narrations that bring you up to speed, I thought that they were an okay addition to the canon and didn't detract from the lore at all. That said, the original five to ten minute ones were much better then the 3D ones that came these past few years.

Episode I: The battles were entertaining but they're the only memomrable parts, Jar Jar Binks was annoying you know the poor guy who played Jar Jar probaly thought that was his big break. The droids are ridiculous why build robots if they're that incompetent isn't it easier and cheaper to hire a bunch of dumb asses it'd be the same thing

Episode II: Once again the battles were great my favorite scene is probaly the speeder chase or the battle of Geonosis, Hayden Chhristensen really crippled this movie and gave it a bad reputation hes the only actor whoose performance I had a problem with he just can't do anger or sadness without sounding ridiculous.

Episode III: I liked this one as well, except for Hayden Christensen, his acting in the Mustafar scene was cringe-worhty I thought Ewan Macgregor did a pretty good job as Obi Wan and whoever played Palapatine (I don't remember the name) was pretty impressive, General Grievous' death was really disappointing

Episode IV: This is the most iconic and the one which I can remember the plot the best, the dialogue is a bit ridiculous at times but for the most part it was pretty good and the battles once again were entertaining. The plot has been recycled so many times in other series' of comics, books, etc. the whole "farmboy meets old master and rogue character and joins fight against evil empire"

Episode V: I'll admit this is one of the ones I don't watch as much all I remember was the Battle of Hoth so I don't know if I can really talk about this one.

Epidode VI: This one was good especially that epic space battle at the end and the Sarlacc pit battle, its probaly my favorite one actually.

The Clone Wars: Never watched it just facepalmed at how kiddy Star Wars appears to have become.

I'll state this right now, I am not trying to start a flame war or piss anybody off. That out of the way, I want to know what y'all think about the Star Wars movies, including the Clone Wars cartoon as well?
Do you consider the new trilogy and it's off-shoots (the animated Clone Wars and such) just as good or even, God forbid, better than the original trilogy?
Do you think the new trilogy should never have been made?
Should the new trilogy have been sequels instead of prequels?

If a thread like this has already been made then I apologize for starting another.
Episode IV through VI are amazing.

Episode I was fairly good, II was just bleh, and III was mediocre with some cool scenes.

The only real saving grace of Episode I was Jar Jar Binks though.

Yes, there are some awful parts. Jar Jar, for one. But the storyline is actually (I'm going to die for this, I know) *better* than the original trilogy. There's more depth, there's more buildup to the climax, there's more political intrigue - and the fact we know how it has to end only helps build anticipation when watching the final half hour of EpIII. It just could've used some better actors.
Better question: What did you guys think of the prequel trilogy if you remove Binks from the movies? If you're having problems doing this for some reason, just replace him with another generic minor character like an unamed aid or some guy in the woods. It's not that hard. Or pretend he got killed during the run from Naboo. Again, not hard as he's just filler to strech the length of Episode I.

I like all of them.

Movies in the 70's and 80's are not even done similarly or have the feel of movies today. If the original movie came out today it would be considered shit and played on the Sci-Fi channel at 1 in the morning.

The people that don't like the new installments were the ones sitting in their caves of solitude since 1983 diddling themselves over the prospect of more content to diddle to. And when the new movies came out not meeting the standards of a 20 plus years long fantasy, they cried foul.

I think Binks falls into the same category as the slapstick droids from EpI-III, R2D2 and C3PO from all episodes, Short-Round from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom...hell, even Merry and Pippin from the LOTR films (although they have more to them than just that). He's comic relief, put in to amuse little children who can't keep up with intrigue and conversation, but love watching a clumsy guy fall down some stairs.

What a lot of people fail to realise is that Star Wars is aimed at multiple audiences - not just the adults. Different aspects of the Expanded Universe will focus on single audiences - quite a few of the novels are darker than half the 18+ stuff you see on TV; whereas the comics about Binks' descendant are aimed at a somewhat different group.

Binks is deliberately stupid, and is not aimed at entertaining adults - so in my opinion, while I called him awful, he has his place.

So I don't think it would make much difference removing him. He does his job.

On a slight tangent, Gentleman - reading your point about Palpatine and the rebels compels me to ask; have you ever played Star Wars: TIE fighter or read any of the comics about Soontir Fel?

Episodes IV-VI = the best.

Episodes I-III = ...meh!

One thing that really struck me with episode III was the intensly stupid dialogues between characters. I can't really put my finger on it if it was the actors' fault or if it was the scriptwriter just not trying anymore, but the dialougs between characters in the first three movies always seemed more "real" and intelligent than the dialogue between characters in the newer movies.

fight scenes were better in the newer movies but my god was hayden's acting wooden, and the script aimed at 4 year olds, and that whole thing at the end with Padme losing the will to live ugghhh....

first original three were best by miles, ESB was the best.

Bullshit. I was born way past when the first three intallments were released and I've always considered them to be superior to the newer ones.

What I mean is that 20 years of hype and build up, wheteher it's in mainstream media or in someones mind, will always set the bar too high and people will never be satisfied. It's hard to deliver on something that has been built up so hugely over the years.

Also, the story really doesn't end. The Empire still stands, nothing changed. Don't tell me stuff happens in the books. I refuse to watch a movie then continue the adventures in novel form. If it starts as a movie, it ends a movie.
Ah yes, and who can forget the massive fleet of( something way over 20) Imperial Class Star Destroyers that just disappeared after the Death Star was destroyed. They were facing just two Mon Calamari Cruisers and some blockade runners/Corellian Corvettes. Robot Chicken pointed the first point out nicely.

In retrospect, I really don't have any reason to watch episodes I-III ever again because honestly, they just sucked... I mean III was the best of the worst, but I would never have liked them if it weren't for the original trilogy and the (at the time) great special effects. They just seem like really shallow movies now...

The original Star War movies were far supiour as far as the plots go and if you take a moment to think the animations were amazing for those days, i know i could pull of those effects in 5mins on my mac book pro but still there incredible for the time
