I might check out TOR if it doesn't demand Origin, but Zeschuk isn't really a trust worthy source here.
It doesn't require Origin if you get a physical copy.
It doesn't? Well that's great, I'll just cross my fingers and hope that they don't ninja-add it just before launch.

I want this game, but not enough to legally hand over all my private information.

Sorry Bioware, but until they change the ToS, your out of another sale.
I think you and a lot of others posting misunderstood Origin's purpose in regards to The Old Republic - You only need Origin to purchase a DIGITAL copy of the game, nothing more.

You dont need Origin to play, download, or install The Old Republic, regardless of if you bought a digital copy or a boxed copy, and if you bought a boxed copy at any retailer than you'll never need Origin at all.

I was so psyched for this game but if EA is going to force me to use Origin and only Origin to play it then you've lost a sale EA.

I personally don't believe that for one minute. Steam forces itself on several boxed copies of games nowadays (the last 3 Dawn of War games had to be used with Steam otherwise you could not play them). And while I don't mind that because I like Steam. If they will do it then Origin will too.

Edit: Ok, I saw this: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.308993-The-Old-Republic-will-NOT-require-Origin

So I suppose I might still buy the game. But I still don't trust EA

Of course all those pretty words are a moot point because it's been established that Origin is downright evil and a bigger breach of privacy than... something that's very privacy breachy.

Part of me wants to see this game bomb more than Final Fantasy XIV did.
Would that be the part of you who wanted Bioware to make a proper Knights of the Old Republic 3? That's how it is with me.

I'll wait to see if this hits the PS3. Otherwise I don't think the hamsters powering my PC would allow me to play OR.

What I don't get is why are they capping the numbers of copies now before the release, last I heard there wasn't a release date out for this thing, I know the whole thing about crowded servers get super laggy (I know I was there for Aion's launch lol), but they could I don't know... get more servers online for the release? Seriously if you're going to charge your customers a monthly fee for server upkeep, yachts, dancing girls in cages etc. etc. You'd think you'd have enough server for everyone when you release the damn game, instead of acting like 'oh noes we haven't got enough room for all the people that want to play our suuper popular game!'
Ummm It's not like this problem has arisen like a week before you release the game, get off your asses and try servicing your customers rather than just pushing them away like some sort of exclusive clubhouse trying to make everyone interested on what is going on in your exclusive club :/

Maybe I'm missing the point here but I thought I'd add in what I'm hearing on my end from E.A. (T_T)

I thoughed it was George Lucas and his angst ridden prequels who did that.
Not really a sw fan, but this game is the reason there is no Kotor 3. Therefore it deserves to die.

I'm not very reactive to a lot of these things (For instance, I don't hate DRM as a concept, but I dislike rootkits and other bullshit that often comes along with it and avoid those scenarios). I also like digital distribution (I'm a huge shopper on Steam). But I won't be getting a digital copy of this game, which means I probably won't be getting this game and the reason is two fold:

1) I don't want to encourage exclusivity in digital distribution because I think consumers lose out on that model.

2) I don't want to participate in EA's overly invasive EULA. I don't feel that simply installing one of their games gives them the right to see what software I have installed and running and then report or sell that information to third parties.

So all that being said, yes I won't be buying this game. I admit that I'm probably not a demographic of people they care too much about (ergo: people who are informed enough about these issues to make a conscious decision), but over time I think they are going to have to come to terms with the fact that they need to make some modifications before the government comes in and makes it for them.

I'm being serious here - I think if companies keep trying to collect data on users like this that eventually someone is going to step up to the plate and get it banned. They make that scenario more and more likely the more aggressive they get about collecting data that they really have no right to.

"We are hyping up this game ... we didn't show much to you and what we did was not super impressive ... but capacity is limited and trust us ... we are full.
Pre-order quick, before you realize you have been seeing only cleaned up commercials. Don't dare delay pre-order until the game is in open test! You might end up left out!"

Riiiight ... Btw, did anyone see EULA for ToR yet? EA legal team might have written it for them as well. :)

Still buying game despite what the fuck-spods say; I've gotten bored of people ragging on EA, especially since it's a stereotype that was false at least 3 years ago

BioWare and EA have admitted that they are deliberately capping the capacity at launch however, so whether it should really be used as a metric for success is debatable.

What's to debate? It's a terrible idea and is a fairly blatant disguise for low sales predictions.

Seems that people are still over looking this:

Yes, I know I posted it... But, it's pretty important, so many people are acting like TOR requires Origin.

IT DOES NOT. It is not required to Install, patch OR play the game. I'm not reposting the link again, it's getting tired now, stop overlooking this fact people. Thanks to people linking it as well in this thread.
People are still allowed to not buy the game because they don't want to support EA, right?
I would never question that :)

Just a bit sick of people stating incorrect facts about Origin's intergration with TOR.

I won't be getting this. The whole Origin thing sounds way too Orwellian to me.
Too bad too, the game looked good.

That's right EA, you keep telling yourself that while people move back to WOW.
