I pronounce them the same. Although, its hard to reach the level of raw awsome that the orks in warhammer 40k have attained.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

I stick to the spelling used in official merchandise/canon for the context. So I'll call them Ork in Warhammer 40k, but Orc in Lord Of The Rings, because that's official canon for their respective franchises. As it were.

same here, lol. Actually, I kind of hate the fact that the alphabet has two symbols for the same sound.

the 40k version are actually called the Krork (shortened to Ork)

I'll go with Tolkien's because I love LOTR. Plus he is the one who made the word in the sense that we know it, at least that's what I read.

LOTR Orc..... that said in Spanish Iraq is spelled Irak.......so I guess it depends on where you live in the world......... also I think Irak is the only time the letter K is used in the Spanish language

Wait, so the question is whether the dominant spelling of the word is from Warhammer or Tolkienesque fantasy, which I must remind you is pretty much the basis for all fantasy since? Yeah, I'mma have to go with Tolkien on this one.

I had no idea people spell it "ork" I'll have to go with Tolkien on this one.
Same here! Orcs all the way.

Ork is fine as well, but that's only acceptable to me because of Warhammer and the hilarious nature of their spelling.

Seeing as how Orcs were conceptualised by Tolkien mining Anglo-Saxon myth, I think his spelling is the one I prefer to use myself.
Dutch and German spell it "ork" because otherwise phonetically it doesn't work. I'm not sure, but I suspect that's where Warhammer drew the spelling from.
That's perfectly acceptable to me, but in the English usage, which Tolkien wrote in, then it's Orc from the Old English Orcneas meaning 'demon' which is basically what Orcs are.

I understand completely that it really depends on what context you're using.

Is it me or has this thread gone as far as it's going to go?
it could be pushed further by me and the others shouting WAAGGHHH at it. repeatedly. in the face.
WAAAAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

ORKS IZ MADE FER ROCKIN!

But, yeah, I think we've hit the end of the debate and degenerated into six screen wide WAAGHs.

Ork in my native tongue, Orc in everything else. Of course, where does Orque fall?
An "Orque" is a snooty type of Orc that enjoys baguettes and "escargot" instead of regular old snails.

Well I know I'm probably opening the flood gates here but...

Do you say Ork or Orc??

And before you ask there is a difference.

Ork is mostly from 40K. the space faring brutes that live for WAAAAGH, who MADE FER FIGHTN' AND WINNIN'

and Orc is from WoW and Tolkenesk fantasy (LOTR).

So, what do you say?
Either one really it is a fictional creature spell it however you want. I like Orka myself.

Contrary to most people I prefer Ork.

Just sounds more guttural - like they'd pronounce it.

It fits them better in my head.
