Cons are still a thing?!? It hasn't been 2009 in at least a few years...jeez, what's left for people to become fans of?! Avatar? Whatever the fuck Dragon Ball is doing these days? God help us, Game of thrones?!
They've always been a thing. They're used as a Halloween party, social gathering, and to sell nerd merchandise.
They do sell some nerd merchandise, but a lot of it is funkopops, lots and lots of funkopops. Fuck funkopops, they're a fucking cancer that is killing nerdom. They look garish, they're a ripoff for what they are, they all look the same and I'm pretty sure 80% of the reason people even buy them is because they're the beanie babies of our time.

nendoroids by all right should be the bottom tier of figurines, but no, funkopops make even them look good by comparison.

Throw that on the tiny pile of things we agree on.

I really want that Nendroid of N from Pok?mon Black/White.

Bah! Both Funkopops and Nendoroids are both dildos :p

Actual quality made figurines is where its at!!!

Pok?mon > Anything by Blizzard. I like how Nendroids are posable and a bit customizable. I don't care for just decorative statues, I want ones I can actually play around with. (It is also why I love Gundam models, cause they are fun to build and fun to actually toy with)

I think the last anime convention I went to was Otakon in 2004(I was 18 at the time... gods I feel old).

One of the things I remember in particular was they had an MST3K style show where they were riffing on an anime movie the name of which escapes me. All I remember was a line where someone said "So we're watching people watch TV". To which the other guy said "Well how do you think the audience feels"? Which got a pretty big laugh from the audience.

I actually almost bought a PSX copy of Grandia there(at the time I had only played the second game), but it was the Japanese version so I just passed on it.
Too bad, great game.

Bought yourself some porn again there, eh Zontar?

Eventually I did get it on PSN when it came out in... 2010 I think.

Really enjoyed it, but 2 is still my favorite in the series(due in part because it was my first Grandia game).

Then I might as well get Games Workship and Wizards of the Coast Tabletop figurines if I want to customize and play with them. I mean look at this beast!

(Not my computer and statue mind you)

I mean, yeah, sure. They have the practical use of enhancing your game, so go for it. I personally am not the biggest fan of purely decorative statues though.

If you monsters had your own con, why did you have to ruin NYCC?
Was it so much to ask that you bathe if you're going to interact with proper geeks?

Everyone goes to ComicCon, especially entry level shit and stuff that doesn't even belong at a nerdom convention. Anime conventions are actually pretty odd, despite our growth we've managed to maintain it as a place about what they where originally about. I mean sure you have the video game area and the table top area and the panels about SocJus topics that are the cancer of every community they infect, but for the most part it's still about the weebery, which is hard to believe given how so much else has been corrupted from its original intent during the period that surface level nerdom has become mainstream.

I'm confused; how can cancer have cancer?
That still doesn't excuse how you made everything smell worse. Take a shower, wear some deodorant! It's not difficult. If you can afford con passes you can afford deodorant.

My girlfriend also went to the Montreal Otakuthon.

Apparently it's getting more and more expensive and shit, she might pass on it last year. At least she got a preorder for the new Tanto Cuore expac.

Okay that's definitely a disparity between Quebec Otaku and Yankee Otaku because we don't have that sent problem (though lets be realistic, back in the day it wasn't anime fans specifically stinking up the place).

Yeah passes went up in price a few years back when they started renting out the whole building for the event rather then just most of it. Shouldn't be too much of an issue now though, even if that expansion where approved today it'd take years to open, and there's no way in hell the current mayor would ever approve of something at logical as that.

Funkos are cancer and have earned a special place in hell for all the prime dealer space they suck up.

Them asking people who rent booths to now pay for whole weekend passes is what she meant by "it getting more expensive", if I'm not mistaken.

I am seriously asking. What is beneath the paper? It could be anything for all I know. Maybe there is a cool race car underneath it.

I see, so she's a vendor or artist eh? One thing I found odd was that, to advertise their new direct flights between Montreal and Tokyo, one of the main sponsors for the convention was Air Canada, and they rented out 4 adjacent booths where they had a pilot and a flight attendant trying to sell their service. I remember it because HiDive was right behind them and I wanted to see if they knew of Sentai ever having plans to finally have shipping to Canada (and then I got both seasons of AJin free because I have a subscription to the service). Such an unusual means of marketing.

im asking cause ive never seen those marvel comic books

are they dc? i dont read many of them
I don't see either the Marvel or DC logo on either. They could be Dark Horse or Image. Or maybe even one of those small time indie comics publishers.
