Story and characters, I really wouldn't put up with bad gameplay for them though, since writing in virtually every other medium is generally more competent at this point with only a few exceptions.

story/writing/characters. all are facets of the same thing, but different at the same time. something can have a good story yet be poorly written (bad dialogue, etc.) or have unlikable characters. i prefer all 3 of those things to be at least ok, as long as none of them are poor. but if one of those areas can be really good, it means a lot to me. one example is Grandia (2 or 3, don't remember which). the story was so-so and the characters were sorta meh, but the dialogue was outstanding. as a result, i'll always remember that game fondly (even if i can't remember which installment of the series it was...but then again, i seldom remember numbers anyway).

Storyline trumps all, even gameplay, in my book. This is my justification for buying Dirge of Cerberus, Suikoden IV, Xenosaga II, F.E.A.R 2 and a few other games that had many issues, but continued the storyline of previous games that I loved. So, storyline all the way.
Aside from the game choices, as I haven't played them though now I might, I have to agree. A game with no story makes me not want to play it in the slightest. Why Blizzard has my heart, well maybe that's the ability to make your own story but that's not the case in SC so HA!

Anywho, another part is if I don't feel IN the game. Not immersed, just like, do I feel like if this game were real life could of gone on.

Writing. The story can be trite and predictable, but I'll still get sucked in and enjoy it if the execution is good, and the characters keep me engaged. I even like cliches in a lot of ways, especially if there's a wink-wink, nudge-nudge kind of edge to it.

Case in point, Dragon Age: Origins. It's a pretty archetypal fantasy story speaking plot-wise but it's executed so well that the world totally draws you in, and, at least to me, it never felt trite or repetitive, even though I knew where it was drawing a lot of influences from.

Replayibility is more than gameplay, because the game must have had good gameplay to be replayed. I don't mean 100% collection things, I mean things that change how the game is played and makes players try new things, while still being enjoyable no matter how long after you have played it

um are you gonna get the game or what. i think i have a few hours in the vanquish demo. it is just so good.

um fun is most important and how good it is with other people is good too along with how long it is fun for. i wouldn't buy a 2 hour game.

Story.

Back the playstation/playstation 2 era, I'd sometimes cheat my way through games just to get to the plot.

I like to get something out of my entertainment, either life lessons or characters I relate to that I'll carry with me wherever I go.

A very close second is replay ability, although thats more of a recent development compared to back then.

Story, closely followed by the soundtrack. Music is a big part of developing the atmosphere in a game. Its ok if the soundtrack sucks though, its not like it has to be awesome or the game will be crap.

playing Enslaved reminded me of how excellent storytelling and engaging characters' interactions can more than make up for less than perfect gameplay. some good writing, voice acting and background music really ties a game together.

Replayability I guess, even if it lacks in some other important aspects, if I can play it for 100+ hours total over the time I own it, then that should be good enough.

Music. In fact, i'd say music is even more important than gameplay to me. If you made the most fun game of all time and it had a shitty soundtrack, I would never even consider playing it.

Super Meat Boy is fun and all, but the soundtrack is what makes it my Game of the Year.

Also, if a game can make me cry (out of sadness, not frustration) then it goes on my special list of awesomeness.

Story. In fact, sometimes it trumps gameplay. I found the gameplay of ffXIII tedious and yet enjoyed it because of the story. Same goes with practicably every Bioware game outside of ME2, which had great story and great gameplay.

When playing a game what feature other than gameplay really makes you enjoy a game (i.e music, graphics, storyline) or is gameplay all that matters to you? Personally for me I find that good music in a game can really make me enjoy a game much more, the epic feeling you get when you start a boss fight or the emotional feeling during an important scene can really be made with good music behind it
I personally think music is very very important depending on the game, in Super Meat Boy, the music keeps you pumped and energized and leaves you never wanting to quit. This isn't as important on bigger games though, although helps a lot (I.E. Mass Effect's love scene music) as it can really put you in the mood and evoke emotions that other entertainment mediums just can't bring, simply because of the fact that you identify with the character you play in games generally
