Damien was about to redirect the blast when he heard the mystery man's clothes squeak. "Shit!" Damien thought. "His clothes are rubber!" Damien warped out of the way, about 10 feet away from his starting point. not that he had to worry about the man getting away. he was the only one who could cure the man. but still, a little space for reaction time was always nice. Damien covered his arm with the Void and prepared to throw up a shield. just in case. Damien then decided to taunt the man. "Don't you want to know what's happening to you? why you feel lacking in energy?" However, Damien still had an ace up his sleeve. the lightning was still bouncing around within the Void. "So what if his clothes are rubber?" Damien thought. "The concussive force alone should be enough to stop him." So Damien opened a portal right behind the mystery man and let the lightning loose.

hey, is this good?

Not what I was aiming to do. My character was actually aiming at the wall next to you, and not at you. This was intended merely as a diversion for him to escape.

Also, I'm fairly certain that isn't how lightening works. At all.

And furthermore, even if it was, you warped to avoid it. You don't have it captured in the void.

Still, I guess I'll go with it. I'm going to make a few assumptions about your actions though, although I'll try and make them fit your characters personality.

Sylvester smiled. "Clearly you don't know much about lightening. It won't hit me if it cant reach the ground by hitting me, and I have rubber boots as well."

He raised his right hand again, and fired bolts at the wall above the attacker. The result was a shower of dust around them, obscuring their vision. Sylvester span his chain right into the dust cloud, aiming at the point at which his opponent's lung should be.

As the dust settled, it turned out to be a perfect hit. The chain had skewered his opponent straight through his left lung. His opponent was still standing, and smiling at Sylvester as he raised his claw to snap the chain, but this time Sylvester was smiling as well.

"That chain is made of a metal that has been tested to withstand absolutely anything, and no matter what you do, you wont be able to break it. It has some hooks on the other side, so you cannot simply remove it. Now, unless you want me to shock you till you think you went to hell rather then here, I suggest you remove whatever it was you did to me..."

I have tried to make it so that you did what I imagined your character would do in this situation, and this seems to fit.

Damien smiled. "Maybe i can't remove it, but i can do this." the raging Void that was on his arm previously was like a candle before the inferno that raged now. He expanded the void until it became a domed arena- about 20' by 20'. it ate through the walls to do so. Damien then summoned his scythe. Void conglamerated on the scythe, but did not harm it. Damien started slashing wildly, spreading Void entryways all over the arena. finally, he he put one in between the mystery man and himself, and put the other doorway over the mystery man's head. "Like it?" Damien asked. "I call it roulette arena. not even I know which ones go where. I created this after 12 years of studying my powers."

Sylvester laughed.

"Maybe I don't know where they go, but I don't need too. See one of the key aspects of this chain is that it's made of metal. And the other key aspect is that it's stuck through you."

To demonstrate his point, he unleashed a bolt of lightening into his chain. His rubber gloves protected him, but the one at the other end of the chain would not be so lucky.

"I hope you take my point. Now dispel this and that curse you have placed upon me."

Damien grimaced as he took the bolt. then, he grinned with realization. "You're right. it is stuck through me. but, this is a two way street." Damien blasted the Void at the man, which followed the chain like a railroad. then, Damien created a Void doorway right in front of the mystery man, one that had no way out, and pulled as hard as he could, trying to pull the man into the deadly Void.

Realizing what was happening, Sylvester pulled back. If this was a straight tug of war, then he knew he had little chance; he was likely to lose even without this void sapping his strength. However, this wasn't a straight tug of war.

He unleashed bolt after bolt of lightening into his chain, and heard his opponent shake with each hit. He was grateful that he had decided to only use a weaker blast in order to try and shake his opponent, as this was requiring energy that he was losing fast.

However, his opponent was taking heavy damage as well. He couldn't keep healing against Sylvester's (admittedly slightly weakened) blasts. Sylvester was sure he would win in the current situation, but had serious doubts about his ability to survive afterwards. This would be a time for negotiation.

"Can we call this a stalemate?"

"It depends... do you know who killed Hulian? and what were you doing when i caught you the first time? and who the hell are you?" Damien was glad the Void was self-sufficient; he was already taking enough damage as is. he could win this if he could avoid taking damage for a few seconds. when the mystery man would not answer, Damien slammed the Void midway down the chain to block the lightning, gritted his teeth, and pulled.

"I have no idea who it was exactly, but I have been trying to chase them. You just keep stopping me from making progress."

Sylvester felt the chain at the other end stop pulling once he said this, and he slipped and fell to the ground. He got up hastily.

Planning his next move, he waited for his opponent to speak.

"You never answered who you were." Damien stared hard at the man's face. "Don't you even dare try pulling anything, or I swear to God, i will collapse this whole fucking arena and see how well you do within the Void. Anyway, it seems we are after the same person. why are you chasing him?"

"It's something to do. I have nothing of interest here anymore."

Seeing his opponent's surprise at this answer, he said "This place is so dull. All I have left to do is follow people. I was following the man in the white robes, then he joined the rest of you and i decided to chase the assassin instead. I don't even care about whether or not i get that ring, all I wanted was something interesting to do."

"and of course, it's far more interesting when there is someone trying to compete with you.

Damien smiled. "okay then, i have a deal for you. you stop zapping me, wait 5 or 10 minutes, then remove your blade. in return, i remove the Void from you. We separate, and go after this ring, me vs. you. sounds good to you?"

Brandon walked back into the Scholars District. Lighting another cigarette, he walked into a store. "Where are the magic manuals in this place?" He asked looking around. "Sorry sir no smoking allowed...in..here..." The clerk said looking up "Holy and unholy cows. The Sage sir right over there in aisle twelve. And please if you want to keep smoking." He said eagerly. "Thanks." Brandon said putting out his cigarette. He still had respect for the books. He grabbed a book with the title The Basics of Lightning. Brandon paid the price on the book, gave the clerk a tip, and headed towards the Winter District to grab his belongings.

Sylvester considered the offer.

It was always offer that his opponent was playing a trick. He had once nearly been tricked by a similar offer.

However, he was unfortunately low on options. Even if he killed his opponent, he was stuck here in this horrible place.

However, his opponent looked very unlikely to break the deal. His level of confidence was astounding, and it was likely that he did not consider Sylvester a threat unless this exact situation occurred again. He was no expert on this, but it did seem likely that he would honor their agreement.

"Very well, agreed."

Damien waited for the wound to heal entirely, then pulled out the blade. without barbs, it came out easily. Damien then waited again for that wound to heal. when he was at 100% (or close enough to it) he summoned his strength and absorbed the arena and pushed it back into the Void. He then walked over to the man and destroyed the Void Damien had put on him. "You never did tell me your name," he said as he cured the man, and healed all his wounds by giving him a medicinal potion he created. Finally, he gave the man a sheet of paper with his mark on it. Damien explained. "I feel sorta like i'm cheating on this race, since i have others to help me, so im giving you this. show this anywhere in the Underworld District, and you'll be treated like a king."

Sylvester considered, then took the paper. "Don't worry, I'll do well on my own anyway. But I have my next step planned, and this may come in useful, so thank-you."

Knowing that the next encounter probably would not be a friendly one, he smiled at the man. "I didn't give you my name for a reason. I don't intend to give it out. But if you want to know, I'd be amazed if you couldn't find out after my next few moves."

He turned, and ran off in the opposite direction, not looking back at the man. It was time to carry out the first step in his newly formed strategy...

Damien sighed. "Man, things look like they're gonna heat up. Things are gonna get real interesting. I guess i better heat things up too." Damien warped back to the inn. "Man, that was exciting. best battle i've had in years. I better go look for the others." He left the 13 mafia-men to protect the house. Before he left though, he looked inside the brown bag and took out an cloak. a note was attached to it.
This cloak is made out of Orichalcum, the strongest material in the Otherworld. No blade shall pierce it, and the Void cannot destroy it. you might heal well, but still, always nice to have a backup plan, right? Good Luck.-Kite
"Damn," muttered Lier, "I should have looked inside the bag earlier." He put the black cloak on and went in search of his comrades.

Umm... are we running along the same time-line? My character is only supposed to have woken up about 2 hours ago.

Sylvester had no doubt that he would not be able to find the assassin. He hadn't even seen his face. So that simply wouldn't work without a very lucky coincidence.

However, he had a better idea. He entered a bar that he selected based quickly upon the level of talking going on within the bar. He went up to the barman and ordered half a glass of beer.

"I haven't seen you around here before." said the barman as he poured Sylvester his drink. "What's your name?"

"My name is Hulian." replied Sylvester. "The man I was using as my proxy was killed by an assassin who then came here." Sylvester saw the barman's expression, and heard the bar momentarily silence...

Is anyone else still playing? It's been only me and Xero-Scythe for a while, aside from 1 post by sage42.

Cross woke up on the floor of a bar and was trying to get his bearings. The past few days seem to have passed by in a blur and he was desperetly trying to remember what he had done the past few days. As he stood up, he remembered Xavier going off to go call in some favors of his own and to collect some equipment. Cross had gone back to the Cemetary district and could not find the group. So he fell back into his old habit of starting bar fights with peanuts.

"Ohhhh yea" he muttered to himself

He remembered one bar burning to the ground, another somhow erupted in a dance fight,at third he somone somehow go stuffed into a sealed keg and at another bar a small explosion took out part of a neighborhood becuse an unstable alchol still josseled around in a fight. He rembered last night and how a part parton caught him flinging peanuts and the whole bar ganged up on him. Hew remembered making himself stronger and taller, but not fusing his armour to hisself or puting on his helmate. He remembered triuphantally beating back everyone in the bar and happily singing a victory song

And then he remembered somone sneaking up from behind and hiting him over the head with a bar stool.

"And then I blacked out and woke up here" he thought out loud "I wonder where everyone is he thought as he gathered his things and left the bar.

Damien walked back into the Cemetary District. He noticed Cross walking unsteadily out of a bar. The back of his head was black and blue. it had started swelling. Damien ran up to him. "Damn, what happened to you? are you alright?"
