Post-covid conditions (PCC) is a more general category than you are representing it as.
The authors described it as "a wide range of chronic cognitive symptoms". Neither your view or mine takes precedence over that. They expressly compared a group of people of known cognitive symptoms to those without, explicitly excluding from the control group anyone who reported pre-existing neurological symptoms.

People are still pushing this bullshit long covid narrative...

When compared to other infections, people with covid actually did better!!! There is no evidence covid causes long-term symptoms at any higher rate than any other normal infection.

These results highlight the importance of including a control group of participants with negative COVID-19 results [that had a different infection] for comparison when examining the sequelae of COVID-19.

at the start of the methods section, you will find that they explicitly use this criteria for the PCC group: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7832375/

As the global COVID-19 pandemic has progressed, evidence has emerged that some patients are experiencing prolonged multiorgan symptoms and complications beyond the initial period of acute infection and illness. The list of persisting and new symptoms reported by patients is extensive, including chronic cough, shortness of breath, chest tightness, cognitive dysfunction, and extreme fatigue. Termed long COVID or post-COVID-19 syndrome, the implications and consequences of such ongoing clinical manifestations are a growing health concern.
