Online I am currently Scarbunny, before that I was The Bloody Nine, and before that Loki.

People from way back when still call me Loki both on and offline, but most of my newer friends (online) call me Scar or Mr Bunny. One of the guys I worked with either called me by my real name or by Mr. "insert surname here" or Mr Bunny or Scar, both on and offline again. I have far more names than is healthy especially as my missus has a few more names for me.

But I tend to just be happy to be what ever people want to call me each name has a special place in my heart and good memories along with it.

And my family still use the full version of my name, which is a bit of a pain but Im use to it now.
I win, I know a guy called Odin.

My nickname is Shattubatu. It was a randomly generated name for a Taru-Taru on FF11 and I've used it for everything ever since. That name has become a part of me and even my non-gamer parents know the name! When I cancelled my FF11 account my dad said "Is shattubatu dead now!". It really surprised me.

Figured I should say this, my real life friend uses the Table of Elements to pick out his names. He was depleted Uranium for a while there.

Combined (Or Combine 636) is my preferred nickname, because it describes me so well. The evil mixed with justice, stunstick user, gas mask wearer, Half Life 2 Fanatic and so on. I don't mind if they call me Comb, Combine, 636 or even Comby. As long as they're referring to me, I'm just happy that someone's talking to me.

And, if you're interested, I had a lot of nicknames on many places, not one of them repeating.

I dont really have many nicknames, bar an irish variation of my name which a select few friends call me. Recently, for the internet, I have been using variations of my escapist name. I have shortened it to 'Nikonov' or 'Atvomat' at times though, both of which sounds pretty cool.

This is my real first name, but nobody usually believes me because I'm British and this isn't exactly a common first name here. On Youtube I go by the alias 'crispymongoose', mainly because I wanted something that sounded quirky and original.

I choose aliases partly because I want to pretend I'm a cool person in at least one sphere of my life, and also for anonymity.

Hookman is something my older brother started to call me when I was really little. Hes the only one who calls me by Hookman but I just use it because I like the idea that barely anyone will know its actually my last name.

Back in 1998 I tried out the Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith demo that came with my Voodoo 2 graphics accelerator. The game asked me to create a profile, and for some reason I typed in "Jedi" followed by my initials.

The rest is history.

My name is Mattias, by the way.

I've had a lot of real life nicknames (most coming from people's laziness in saying my full first name). It's got to the point where my family call me by my shortened name. So the point of having such a long one...?

My Escapist name is a shortened version of my first and surname, with my lucky number after it. My youtube one is just a few random letters 'jkrobo5' - I have no idea where the 'k' and the 'robo' came from...

My question is this, why do people use nicknames? I've used roughly 4 in my lifetime, but recently they have been growing in their own way. What's your nickname, for Games, and the Internet? Do you use it as an Alias, or do you just have it because everyone else does? Do you hide behind it or don't care about people knowing who you really are? It's an interesting thought, sorry if this is too private for anyone, but I want others opinions on this, my crazy thoughts...
I personally think that it's more about trying to be unique in identifying who you are. If everyone went by their name there'd be a whole lot of confusion if two (or more) people had the same name. Plus it's nice to log on and say "This is Madnezz."

For your second question, I do use this username for online things and the like, but if Madnezz is taken, I use my old one which is Frozzty, and if that is taken, I make a variation of it like Frozz, Froz, Fr0zz and so on.

Third, a little of both really. As stated before, it's awesome to log on and say "This is Madnezz" but I think it'd be a little boring if people had all these cool names and I walked around with the name Jonny.

Lastly, I do keep some things private, but I'll tell people some stuff if they ask, although I won't recite a whole life story.
