Overheating Issues

All right, so apparently I have the specs to play games on my laptop, but it doesn't want to cooperate with me. At least, not as far as Vindictus is concerned, as I just tried that out to see if I could do anything. You see, my laptop has a profound propensity for getting all worked up and shutting itself off. I've had it for a little over a year, and I don't know if the problem is dust or if it just hates me and wants to see to it that all I do is programming homework ad nauseum.

It's a Toshiba, of the "Satellite" series, though I don't know why they call it that. It's not as if the lousy thing can ever be away from an AC plug for more than an hour. Overheating issues aside, I'd say it's pretty fast. I have a fan underneath it, which seems to help somewhat.

So, does it seem like I'm dealing with a fixable issue, or is Toshiba just jealous because it can't be Nintendo?

Is the fan disrupting the airflow somewhat? Y'know, like people who tried to help their 360 by pushing hot air into it or reducing airflow out of the thing.

Both my laptops broke, so I just want to say: fuck these POS computer things.
I thought that was a problem for a while, so I stopped using the fan, but then I found that it started shutting off more. It seems to stay cooler with the fan, if only a little.

And I really wish I'd invested in a desktop. I could have put together something much nicer and the set-up wouldn't be a whole lot different, as I'd be tethered to my desk either way.

I didn't realize people did that with their 360 XD
I don't play mine long enough for it to get particularly hot, but I've read that the new one doesn't remove heat as well.

It's a laptop, this is going to happen. Laptops are very shitty places for computer hardware to live.

However the only fix it to find a way to make it colder. Wrap it up in dry ice or something <.< There's not really a whole lot you -can- do to make a laptop stop overheating.

I live in California, so that might be difficult <__<;

The only reason I went with a laptop is because my mom was convinced that it would be necessary for college. Well, I'm in college, but I never take it to school with me. There is one guy in my stats class who does, and the professor gives him a hard time for bringing it. So yeah, long story short, you need a computer for college (and really, school in general), not a fucking laptop.

I keep my 360 off the ground by a few inches, if it's possible, you could try the same thing with the laptop by raising each corner with little feet. Keeping the fan free of grime is important too, but I doubt you can ever fix the situation dramatically. At least yours is still functional.
The fan keeps it raised. And yes, I need Internet! XD

Campus wifi can only be crap anyway. The only thing I miss is being able to type in bed, I like to be comfy when I must think and express my thoughts.
I tried to watch Blade Runner with this thing the other night. I was sitting on my bed with my dog, and I had made it to last five minutes of the film. And it shut off. Fuuuuu-

Bonesy-my laptop- has died about...4 times in the last 2 years. He freezes when I first start him up, and freezes for no reason at all sometimes.

As for why it overheats, have you tried opening it up and cleaning around the fan? I've had to do that once or twice, and it was because dust was preventing the heat from escaping properly.
I'm thinking about buying a can of compressed air, but I've read that actually opening up the unit voids the warranty.

My laptop was awful when I first got it. It was fast and efficient for the first day, then it had some obscure registry error that forced me to recommence start-up 4 or 5 times before I'd actually get anywhere. So in total, this thing cost me $700 at the outset. And really, I can't say it's worth that /:

So, void the warranty. Or use it to get it cleaned >_> if the thing's not working properly the warranty isn't helping you anyway if you won't use it :p

True, but I think I want to try the compressed air solution first XD
