Overpriced DLC

if i had the knowledge i would open a website thats devoted to what dlc is worth buying and trying to get a large number of ppl to stop buying them till they mak them free.

lets face it anyone without the internet gets the short stick and anyone who gets lucky when they can get a game cant play with there friends cause the friends upgraded there game and only want to play the dlc.

otherwise its a slap on the ass if they do what halo did and just increase the achievments with map pack releases.........how the fuck am i ment to unlock all achievments with half the game you stupid sob's. i had all 1000 points on halo then 1 day i find i need another 250 points and that a few of them require the map packs so i buy them and ill admit i enjoyed forge alot.......but would of loved it even more if it was free and yet again halo has like th most achievment points to date and its fucking stupid.

i for 1 am starting a rebel gaming community thats dedicated to halt the purchases of these dlc packages.

GfW are going to take over dlc for PCs? I seriously doubt it, if anything does that, it will be Steam. Games for Windows doesn't stand a chance, nor does Impulse.

Nope it was stand alone DLC, it cost 200MP(?) and did essentially nothing to the game other than make your horse a bit shiner =/

Yes, if you bought the Knight of the Nine DVD for PC you got all the previous DLC included. That's the only reason I have the horse armour and orrery, because I'd never have bought them on their own.

You mean the regular DLC, which is Operation Anchorage (most likely the one you're talking about), The Pitt and Broken Steel.

I own none of them, but they're all supposed to be very worthwhile, especially the latter two.

yeah those are the ones i was talking about, i haven't downloaded them either but the pitt and broken steel are supposed to be the best of them, anchorage is to short

but the two new DLC they're coming out with sound to be worth it or atleast the alien ship one

They won't last as long as tehre are so many users on consoles willing to pay for their updates. I would be surprised if Valve charges for the next class acheivement pack, and then all the idiots on this forum will say "WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT ITS ONLY 10$ GET OVER IT GEEZE YOU UNGREATFUL FANS!"

The reason DLC is free on the PC is because it's built on a PC, so all they have to do si publish it.
DLC on a console costs money because they either have to convert it all to that system's "inner workings" or to build it again. Plus, it's relatively annoying for the developer that they have to add a little bit of software so the game knows that the DLC is for it, not a random happening...

This kind of thing is one of the reasons why I have no real sympathy for the gaming industry. The whole point of direct to drive downloads was to reduce development costs by cutting out the cost of disks, packaging, manuals, shipping and other things. Allowing game companies to deliver the same content faster, and cheaper, and reducing prices to you the consumer.

In reality when you DL a product you wind up paying the same exact price as if you bought it in a store, except you don't get a "disk in hand" AND are missing little things like instruction manuals, and other perks.

What's more it seems to be used as an excuse to gouge gamers for very minor content additions, as well as to be lazy about making sure a game works since nowadays throwing out updates is relatively easy.

Right now I suspect PC gamers are only getting a lot of "free" content because of the irritation over systems like Windows Live, or Steam, which is ultimatly what they would have to use to distribute this stuff. It's a bit differant than with a console user where they just push a few buttons, as opposed to having to install software that might mess with the res tof the stuff on your system. Given that the core development of many games might be on the PC despite how it seems, it makes sense to distribute that version.

At any rate, I have a tendency to look back at things like "The Forge Of Virtue" and "The Silver Seed" for "Ultima 7/Ultima 7 part 2" as examples of what content upgrades should be, and I also consider that they were disc based content additions, from a differant era.

To be honest it seems like $10 a pop is a rip off for what you get in some of these additions especially given the complete lack of packaging, no return options, and similar things.

This is one of the reasons why while I do not exactly support piracy, I have a hard time feeling sympathetic to the gaming industry. Face it, they are extremely greedy, who have no problem with lying to their consumer base, and whom will do anything to forcibly wring a few extra bucks out of us. All their talk about innovations to lower prices and such (like DLing games directly) were lies because all they did was lower the production costs to increase their profits, charging us the same bloody thing.

The industry as a whole doesn't care, their going to continue to charge us $10 a pop for expansions and make a DL cost the same as an actual packaged game. What's more, I imagine they are already debating things like "hmmm, I wonder if the market will stand it being $15 for a minor expansion, and how many additional corners we can cut. Our market is addicts so it's not like they are going to REALLY stop gaming. For all their talk of Boycots, does it ever happen? Muhwahahahaha".

Also I will be honest Steam is a bloody intrusive spyware fest that I feel cripples the performance of games that involve it. Yet of course the very fact that it is intrusive is
why developers are loving it. I hate it with a passion, yet fear it's the face of the future of legitimate PC gaming.

It is all overpriced and as people keep on buying it all, it's going to just keep getting worse.

The problem is that they never offer the appropriate amount of gameplay for the price. Like the Fallout 3 packs. When I first saw OA, I thought this is it? And making the ending fix part of dlc rather than a free patch (the way things like that used to go) was a cheap move.

The biggest disappointment for me however was Lost and Damned. With everything missing from GTA4, all they thought to add were more missions and a couple of guns? That wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't $20. Same thing with Saints Row 2 except that was a really good game to begin with so it didn't need any dlc; also they know when to just give stuff away, like their last pack.

I also get pissed off at the little microtransaction crap too, it's not usually that much money but $2 for a LBP costume or a burnout car is just ridiculous.

Valve is fighting Microsoft and Sony over them selling the updates for their games. Valve is on the side of free updates as of this time.

Dunno what Kotn you had but its certinaly on mine, the only standalone dlc ever released was Battlehorn Castle.
