Great job. Good acting, good cinematography, good music, and a fantastic retelling a simple beautiful story. Two thumbs up.

Interesting tidbit: The Wizard of Oz was actually a Populist allegory of the woes of the workers and farmers of the late 19th century under the oppressive heel of the corporations, banks, and the federal government.

The Wicked Witch of the West was the cruel robber barons of the East.
The Silver Shoes were the Silver Standard, which would have helped farmers financially.
The Wizard of Oz was the ineffective and false federal government.
The Scarecrow was the farmer who was unable to deal with the banks and railroads.
The Cowardly Lion was Populist congressman William Jennings Bryan, unable to stand up to the oppressors.

And the Tin Man was the industrial factory worker stripped of autonomy and made into a machine himself.

I'm all for a steampunk remake that tries to convey those themes more clearly. That would be awesome, to say the least.

No matter what the charlatan of Oz would say, The Tin Woodsman would forever lament that he had no heart left to love...

The Oz mythos is one we should explore more of, I think, for there is much opportunity. A wonderful story, well told, with many characters yet unexplored. We have the story of the witches, we have the story of Dorothy, we have the story of the Tin Man...there is much yet we could still gladly hear of.

That was a great video! It always amazes me at the amount of detail that is put into these fan fiction movies. Bravo good sir (or maam), bravo.

Excuse me, while I stop crying...

This was magnificent. And I do not think there is any other word to describe it. Possibly the most perfect rendition of a character from Oz.

Is it me, or has anyone else noticed that the Internet is succeeding where Hollywood is failing?

Yeah, the stuff is generally funnier, cleverer, deeper, and just more high-quality on the internet. I guess that's just the benefit of people getting together to do something they care about, without their clear vision being hampered by demographic demand, financial anxieties, tight schedules, and suits breathing down their neck.

Sums it up, I think.

That ending, where he hums the tune....and his voice cracks.

Makes me well up every time :'(

Beautiful

Didn't Baum deny that it was ever intended to be such? It's been several years since I learned about it but I seem to remember his saying it was really just meant to be an enjoyable story.

Pretty good. More in concept than execution, though. I mean, I don't want to be the lone licorice jellybean in the jar, here, but it WAS a little too sappy in spots. When the girl started singing? Ugh. The emotional payoff would have been good enough by the end; didn't have to hammer the point home so much. Can't help but think of this as the Emo version of the Tin Man. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love romantic drama as much as the next person. Romantic MELOdrama, however - kinda hard to take seriously. But again, nice idea.

Especially like the Steampunk Tin man, even though that's not exactly a novel idea at this point. Still, it was nice to see a live-action version.

Wouldn't it be great if a top-notch Hollywood director could make a full 90 minute movie of this story without ruining it? But oh, there's the rub.

Maybe Tim Burton could do a stop-motion version of it. That would kick some serious, how you say, rear end.

This is true, although I felt it was more than made up for when he began humming the tune right at the end. That really got me.

And it is a pity that Hollywood could never make a full piece of this. Such is life =/

Hmm. Hollywood could not, but what about BOLLYWOOD? Then there'd be so much singing, I couldn't consider any of it manipulative sap!

I wasn't impressed by the humming because I KNEW they were going to pull that. Not like I'm some kind of looking-at-movies-genius guy. Because it was pretty much Sappy Cinema 101.

The Steampunk Tin Man almost excused all of it. ALMOST. It would've been cooler if he was like 12 feet tall and had a visible coal fire inside his chest. But now I'm starting to get into anime territory, so...
