I saw the company that did all of the effects at MomoCon in April (and even the guy who wears the full Tin Woodsman suit). They're called "Penny Dreadful Productions" and they're bloody amazing. They showed off some props and the trailer, plus another steampunk short film they did called "That's Magic!".

Oh, and they have steampunk Boba Fett.

Anyway, I'm hyped to see that video as soon as my computer decides to work.
I loved "That's Magic". I looked through a bunch of the other videos on their site and was pretty amazed.
Same here. (link for others)
I also liked Awake O'Sleeper...

Wow I'm not a big fan of Oz or anything, but that was quite good. One of the best independent films I have seen in quite some time. Although I did find the Ax curse thing kind of funny, and how he didn't get the hint that something is up, but who knows, maybe part of the curse was that it kept him motivated and whatnot. All in all it's still rather excellent and I'm interested to see what other projects these people have done or are planning on working on.

Excuse me, while I stop crying...

This was magnificent. And I do not think there is any other word to describe it. Possibly the most perfect rendition of a character from Oz.

Is it me, or has anyone else noticed that the Internet is succeeding where Hollywood is failing?
It was a great movie!

as for the quote above, i have a bit of a theory. since these independent film makers dont have alot of money to make their films, the have to make up for it with good story telling, which is what can make people forget some of their gliches. i guess this movie had enough money untill they hade to make dorthy, witch, and scarcrow suits, which wernt really that important. holly wood,on the other hand, can have the storytelling suck but make the move look amazing. Avatar, if it had to rely on it's story alone, would have been a meh movie, but the visuals made it amazing. i like to see big budget movies with a group of friends since we just have fun watching it, but if i want a good story, ill lok at indi films.

Marvel has been doing a couple of miniseries that have been absolutely lovely, too.

Marvel's been doing a couple of miniseries that are just lovely, especially the artwork. You might want to give those a gander :)

Dude...

At the end... when he's rusted, and you can faintly hear him singing the song... I cried. I really did. Bravo.

I can't help but wish the story had been slightly different. I wish the curse had only caused the first wound, and subsequent tin replacement, and the following replacements were of his own volition (perhaps tinged with the curse, now transfered to his body). Pressured by his need to complete the house for his betrothed, he is lured by the cold efficiency his first metal augmentation has provided. As some arbitrary deadline (set by his fiance's mother) approaches, he needs to give up more and more of his humanity, even at the point where the smith is stretched beyond his capability: the heart. The tinman could succeed in finishing the house, but no longer care about the woman for whom it was built. Their final scene together would still be the heartbreaking same.

Still, incredibly well produced and pretty darn excellent as it is.
