the company being "all about making money."
Wow. I would have never guessed.

I guess that's why they're the specialists in this field and I'm just a lowly forum goer.

Presumably Playstation added browsing on their console because they love kittens so darn much.

And this is not surprising. This news is nothing new or even interesting.

At this time I'd like to point out that the 360 is a gaming console! And therefore doesn't actually need a web browser. I don't even use the one on my Wii, if I want to go on the Internet I use my PC, kinda like I'm doing right now.
Indeed..
And man i tried the browser from ps3 and Wii.. it made me hate the internet.. thats how shitty is was lol :p
I rather be infront of my PC its so much faster and easier.

Microsoft is all about making money?! Breaking news, everybody! Tell your friends!

Seriously. I don't understand why people go "OMFTASDFJIOASF M$$$$$" because they want to make money. That's the goal of the game here. Every company wants, needs, and seeks to earn money. Thinking otherwise is completely bass-ackwards.
Because Microsoft is being extra-extra-extra hyper greedy.
I mean, you have to pay $60 just to get online on a 360 every year, why not just make the 360 a fucking MMORPG with different maps that are entirely different games and instead of buying games you buy a CD Key which you enter slowly and then the map is unlocked for you.
Why not get a ps3 or a wii or a PC and just shut the fuck up : ) ?
instead of whinin on a forum like a little *****.

When you read a title "microsoft wants to own the internet" you think to yourself that someone at microsoft let a statement slip that could be summarized in that way. Like, "If we include a web browser, we want people to pay for it." or something like that.

What you don't expect is that "microsoft wants to own the internet" is basically the EXACT QUOTE the guy used. REALLY? That's pretty fucked up.

God, again giving time to Pachter.

50% of the time he's saying things completely obvious to anyone that has ever played a game, and the other 50% he is absolutely wrong. Why do half the gaming websites in this planet publish whatever he says every week?. It's a complete waste of everybody's bandwidth.
How else are they supposed to get you (users in general) in the forums and posting.

You will never understand how to make money.. Microsoft sony etc wouldnt even exist today if they didnt think about money first..
Quit being such a butt hurt little prick man really its just business.
Yes, because being all about the money is more often equated with a healthy business rather than things like, say, customer service, quality products, etc.

why all the hate?

Pachter may be stating the obvious, but he's just answering questions from Gametrailer viewers, like he always does on Pach attack.
Thank you for putting this entire article in context. This important point nulls a lot of the juvenile sarcasm permeating this thread.

I don't see how on earth this is a bad thing. Its an xbox; microsoft produce this product to make money. If want an internet browser get something else.

I'm so glad that microsoft don't let people do whatever they want on their xbox. It means that when I want to play videogames, I can turn on my xbox and play them, (relatively) safe in the knowledge that they won't crash, get fucked over by viruses or malware, hacked by bitches or nagged by a million updates and pop ups and irritations that I really couldn't care less about when all I want to is shoot someone in the face.

Bottom line: I like how the xbox is contained, because it makes it efficient and reliable. It annoys me enough all the shit they keep adding the dashboard. Don't let people have complete PC functionality, because then you'll have all the shit that goes with it.

I don't really care, it's like giving the Xbox 360 a calculator feature, so many things already have it that you don't need your 360 to have it.

I can get a browser on my Itouch, my cell phone, my desktop, my laptop, my DSi, why would I want one cluttering up my 360?
To save you the time of going onto your desktop? One day it will hit you... like a soft cute bunny, with chainsaws
I'm not saying it's not something people would use, I'm sure tons would use it, but for me, I literally have my computer monitor next to my TV on the same desk, I use my TV as an extended monitor when not using my 360 or watching TV, and I usually sit in my computer chair when playing 360 anyway.

i heard about a bigger problem of president Obama wanting to control the internet.

Maybe that's only in America, and if so, I'm not to thrilled about the thought police coming into my house and repossessing my freedom of the internet.
Luckily for you, none of that is true and even if it was, there is no way it would ever get through congress.
Besides, even if the government tried to control the internet, it couldn't because the internet is international, not owned by America.

Dont really see the need to use a browser on my 360, I use the same moniter for my PC so its just a click of the input button and a ways I go. Also, seems like pretty sound corporate strategy to want to control/charge for what users want to access on their machines, so I can't really fault them on that one.

My god man, fact check sometime.
You so succinctly covered what I was gonna waste paragraphs on. Thanks for the time saver!

Lol.
Is that a joke or really the latest tea-bagger/FoxNews propaganda? That he wants to control the internet; then by proxy, microsoft?
That's hilarious.
The problem is nobody believes this stuff anymore. These mudslingers ruined their credibility when they started too extreme with the rumor of "death-panels" both ruining health care reform discussions and making them look like complete idiots.

Why are liberals so much better at conspiracy theories than conservatives?

As for ms not allowing free unfettered access to the www on the 360. I always figured the reason for it was for fear of infection. If the 360 is basically a pc, then it's probably susceptible to quite a few viruses. Rather than have a department to keep that under control, they prefer to just cut it off to all but approved and custom built domains.

They've lost a ton money dealing with the whole RROD epidemic, can you imagine if they had to deal with viruses too?

Oh, I thought you were a considerable distance away from your Desktop. Then I guess in that situation that would really be useless!

Pachter says that the Xbox 360 will "never" include a browser "because Microsoft's vision when they made the original Xbox was to own the internet." The basic idea is that Microsoft doesn't want you going outside of their box unless it "controls your access."
Huh. I always thought it was because if Microsoft put a browser on the Xbox it would have to be Internet Explorer, and since IE is buggy and full of security holes they're worried people would use it as a way to hack the Xbox..
Either way it's silly, even my Wii has a browser.
