Why not just make it ad supported? That makes the most logical sense for Microsoft... you can't block the ads without modding your 360 so it seems like a good idea.

Honestly who didn't see the reasoning behind this? But really is web browsing on a console really that important? If I'm going to have to sit down to use my internet, why shouldn't I just use my computer? Browsing on portable devices are important because you can access the internet anywhere where you have service, but I don't really see the point for a console. Just my two cents though.

Sounds greedy, but if thats what it takes to keep physical media, then maybe. Always been pro phys, but as I started playing MUA again to learn Activision removed ALL the DLC, it only further makes me love phsyical stuff that cant be taken away through the internet.

although Microsoft wants to own the internet (which is just plain retarted.. something worse is happening in america.
i heard about a bigger problem of president Obama wanting to control the internet.

Maybe that's only in America, and if so, I'm not to thrilled about the thought police coming into my house and repossessing my freedom of the internet.
I do love an unbias, unresearched viewpoint. /sarcasm

I don't have my xbox connected to the internet because a) I don't have a wireless dohicky to attach to my xbox or a cable long enough to connect it to my modem and b) the money to use XBL for a gold membership. While I don't hate the idea of a paid membership, I just don't have the disposable income to spend on something like that. Also, why would you want your console to have a web browser anyway when your computer does it better and probably cheaper too?

I... agree?
Remember when all we had were fast moving blades that did exactly what they needed? Now we have a chunky, slow loading NXE with Avatars! Yay! Another MS creation designed for the sole purpose of siphoning cash from people with more money than sense!

The NXE serves no practical purpose and has made my console slower, and for what? MS cash grabs. Freeing up the consoles for internet browsing would be unimaginable! People could watch Hulu, and unless MS can charge a fee for that other than a gold membership, there's about a snowball's chance that it'll happen.

To hell with this... I'm about to rant... and it's too late for me to get this pissed off.

Like all platforms, I don't need the internet on it, I have my PC,laptop and mp3 player had I really needed to go online.

Why do people really need to go online with every system? Beyond some things I just can't see the use.

I'd love to have a browser on my Xbox 360.

I don't really care, it's like giving the Xbox 360 a calculator feature, so many things already have it that you don't need your 360 to have it.

I can get a browser on my Itouch, my cell phone, my desktop, my laptop, my DSi, why would I want one cluttering up my 360?
To save you the time of going onto your desktop? One day it will hit you... like a soft cute bunny, with chainsaws

On a similar topic, Pachter said there is "no chance in hell" of games becoming download only anytime in the near future as long as consoles don't require 100% of users to connect to the internet. He guesses that the Xbox 360 has about "two-thirds" of users connected, with the PlayStation 3 at around 85%, and the Nintendo Wii at 50% or lower. Until those percentages are higher, brick-and-mortar videogame stores will continue to exist and remain a necessity. Half of all household don't have wireless internet after all, and it's a pain to get that console right next to a router to run a wire most of the time.
This is silly. Who is saying that we need to close all bricks-and-mortar videogame stores in favour of Superdistribution?

Can't we have both?

Won't this drive the adoption of ever larger hard-drives for the 360?

I for one want this simplicity of having my 360 be a multimedia jukebox and I don't want to have to wait months for Games on Demand to finally get around to stocking what I ended-up buying from a shop because it looked like it was never going to get a digital release.

why all the hate?

Pachter may be stating the obvious, but he's just answering questions from Gametrailer viewers, like he always does on Pach attack.

This pretty much. Yeah, it is like 'what's new' but the new generation of gamers should know what they are up against. I like the statement for one. It really lets MS have it. And it sounds better when it comes from someone who has an online show. We pretty much fall on deaf ears every time we say that MS wants to conquer the freaking universe.

It's taken him until Internet Explorer 8 to figure this out?

Though actually, Microsoft don't really care about owning the Internet any more, they used to own it back when IE6 was the standard, because websites used horrible kludges for IE compatibility because that's what everyone used. Now IE's market share is falling, they're focusing on the business desktop, where IE will basically remain king because it's designed to be centrally configured and pushed out to workstations in a standardised configuration, unlike home browsers.
