As I've already said (right there in the facebook comments bit) I'd have preferred something like the 'Paint the line' series, or 'Lookouts'.

Hell even Automata would be a brilliant choice.
But I suppose any film inspired by a Penny Arcade creation can#t be all bad...

Or could it?!

Here's hoping Hollyweird can resist borkin' at least one movie up, eh?

on another note, At least regardless of the outcomes we can be glad they didn't option a CTRL+ALT+DEL movie idea...

*Shudder*

WTF? This is a stretch to say the least. It could be a good movie, In mean, it's not a bad premise, but to say that it's based off of PA is just a marketing ploy.
Also, I don't get PA. They're okay, sometimes great and sometimes really bad, but overall they're okay. Not good, okay. I've never laughed from a PA strip. How did they ever get so big, was it just a reaction from them being first?

Oh no. Someone once pointed out that in Sci-Fi, kids still have to go to school. I guess that means any direction they take with the idea will be unoriginal because something incredibly tangentially related to it was once created.
I love your definition of Sci-Fi as a place. And that it has to follow rules.

But yes, it's far more likely that a Paramount movie will take a completely original direction to a story that's been around since 1948 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Cadet].

And there'll be no hilarious misunderstandings, or wacky hijinks, I'll bet.

Sorry, they are making a film based off of this ONE page of a comic? Seriously?

Bloody hell, it's like the Dead Island trailer again.

Didn't they do this in one of their "Three Individual Story Ideas"? Because there was the one about the immortal cowboy (Dust?) which looked really interesting, as well as the one from a while back, Automata, which would have made the BEST FILM EVER.

I'd rather see that, personally.
Have you seen the Dead Island gameplay stuff? It looks fucking great, like leave dead rising 2, L4D2 etc. in the dust Great.

OT: Anyone want to take bets on how long it is before Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik publicly disavow the project? I'm calling six months.

Here's hoping for Mike & Jerry getting a guest appearance. Or the Gabe & Tycho characters.

Now about that Jim Darkmagic sitcom. :p

Huh.

It's kind of hard to say that something is "based off of" something when there really isn't anything to produce, eh?

Well, then again, that is kind of how Hollywood goes, just borrowing the name then setting Brave New World in the middle of Hogwarts.

Forgot about Class of 3000.
Think I've played 40k for too many years to fit into an enviroment like the galaxy high cartoon; I'd make a chainsword in shop and claim it was part of my religion. Luckily I'm a moderate Imperial Monodominant, so I'd keep the xenos cleansing to a minimum - moderate (and worse) provocation only.

There wasn't even a comic in that, the only joke was that "oh wow they're in a spaceship!" how do you make a movie out of that?

Why not make a movie based on Autonoma (I think it was called) instead? The black and white noir but with SENTIENT ROBOTS!
It would be Chinatown meets iRobot.

Well, I don't really know what to think about this. Personally, I would rather see more of Automata.

Both Tycho and Gabe both seemed to have big hopes for the project, and Gabe wanted to see it made into a movie so I'm happy for them. I can't say where the movie will go based on that small piece, but I've liked everything they've done so far.

I'd also appreciate a Cardboard Tube Samurai movie as well.

FUCK. YES.

with that out of the way, it seems one of the weaker strips to make a movie out of, i mean Paint the line, Lookouts, Automata, the Zombie mall attack skit where FF decimates a horde of zombies and offers tycho the pulpy drink thereafter

According to The Hollywood Reporter [http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/paramount-plots-next-animated-pic-194394], Paramount will be tapping Book of Eli writer (and Gears of War, Star Trek, Futurama, and Duke Nukem Forever contributor) Gary Whitta to write the script for the movie, which will be Paramount's second non-Dreamworks animated film.
Oh wow, isn't that an impressive list of previous experience to get us excited.

Oh wait a second, no it isn't.

I'm not saying to guys at Penny Arcade could write it well, but they could do it better.

Do not want.

And now we learn something important about journalistic integrity, children. What do you do when you have a fairly boring bit of news to report? Why, you impugn the article's subject to drum it up. If Scott had read the blog posts that accompanied the week or so of concept pages, he'd realize that the Penny Arcade guys already worked out a backstory for each project, and the concept pages were just a way to introduce them to readers and allow them to pick which one they wanted expounded on. This will not be an attempt to squeeze the blood of a movie script from the stone of a single comic page, and I doubt this is some shameless Hollywood cash grab. It is most likely an effort on behalf of Penny Arcade themselves, thus putting more control in their hands.

Automata would have been my choice,
or paint the Line!
Hah hah, paint the line would be fucking EPIC :D Automata would indeed be sweet - Classic sci-fi detective film noir, Bladerunner crossed with City of Darkness with a bit of AI or I, Robot thrown in. Easy to do a paint-by-numbers of it, but potential to make something quirky and interesting with a new spin on the whole robot rights vs robot uprising thing.
