Parasite Eve Dual Pack Could Horrify PSN

A duo of PS1 survival horror RPGs could be hitting the PlayStation Network as a prelude to The 3rd Birthday.

In the days of the original PlayStation, Square (which hadn't yet merged with Enix) could do no wrong. One of the company's hits was Parasite Eve, a survival horror RPG that was a melding of Final Fantasy [http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-IX-Playstation/dp/B00004Y57G/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1282688803&sr=8-9] with Resident Evil. With Parasite Eve spin-off The 3rd Birthday coming to the PSP in Japan this year, and other regions later, Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura might try to remind people about the original games through a PlayStation Network release.

Nomura posted on the 3rd Birthday Twitter account [http://twitter.com/3rd_birthday/status/21962763663]: "Before The 3rd Birthday I'd like to do something for the numerous requests for the archives [version] of 1st and 2nd." Fans have apparently been clamoring for the releases of Parasite Eve and Parasite Eve II on the PSN, and it looks like Nomura is going to comply with their demands by the end of 2010.

Nomura was a character artist on both Parasite Eve games and has since worked on games ranging from Final Fantasy XIII [http://www.amazon.com/Kingdom-Hearts-Playstation-2/dp/B000066TS5/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1282688963&sr=8-2]. Sadly, it'd be my best guess that only Japan will receive the PSN releases of Parasite Eve, as Square Enix has only been gracing other regions with its PS1 Final Fantasy titles. Aside from Vagrant Story coming to the European PSN, only Japan has gotten non-Final Fantasy PS1 games such as Legend of Mana and Brave Fencer Musashi. 3rd Birthday is coming to North American though, so perhaps we'll get lucky this time around.

Assuming they would still be available on the psp through the psn I would be highly interested. It's been a long time since I played Parasite Eve and I'd love to play through them again, especially if a new one was coming.

Parasite Eve's original trailer scared the crap out of me when I was younger. Damn opera, burning buildings and what not.

Sweet. Somehow this game slipped through the cracks for me, and I only played a bit of the beginning at a friends place. Looking forward to playing it all the way through.

C'mon Square, Europe really really really wants to play Parasite Eve. We'll give you money and we've been waiting a long time. Please?

I've never even heard of these games, but this sounds pretty cool. I'm glad that older games are getting some love.

I loved Parasite Eve 1 and 2. Lord knows they were FAR from perfect as gameplay goes, but they were just so DIFFERENT from anything else I'd played at the time. Creepy too. I'll definitely be snagging these when they hit.

I'll probably only see Parasite Eve 2 on PSN since the PAL region PSN will probably never see NTSC games on it no matter how much I bug the EU PlayStation Blog for Chrono Trigger, Lunar and Tales Of Destiny to name a few.

Isn't it funny how companies complain about Piracy and yet they only release some games in the NTSC region and never the PAL region? I bet a lot of Piracy is the PAL region gamers downloading NTSC games for their chipped consoles. They could fight Piracy by releasing all games in all regions! That's why being a JRPG fan in the PAL region sucks so much! PAL region gets bugger all JRPGs and we don't see every game release the US does. Granted they don't get all the games Japan does but that's a translation issue not a distribution issue.

[EDIT] I know it's not a JRPG and I have the games myself thanks to a garage sale for a chipped PS1+PE1 and EB GAMES opening near me for PE2. I wish I could get the same luck again with a PS2 so I can import for that through eBay like I did for the modded PS1. I really want Kingdom Hearts RE:Chain of Memories

Well... to be fair, you guys got Vagrant Story...

I'd trade FF8 and 9 for that one...
I wouldn't. The American PSN has heaps of PS1 games and the PAL PSN has bugger all and mainly Disney games. Plus it's not a fair trade, we have those.

...

Is it just me or does anyone else feel leery that more games are coming out on PSN but not getting a physical copy?

My rage will forever be eternal if the next Square/Enix classic they bring to the PSN is another FF game, which I highly doubt because I'm pretty damn sure they re-released them all over here in NA already :\

I haven't even heard of this series, but FF + RE sounds like Awesome + More Awesome.
