It's still a reletivly new medium I guess it's exactly the same as the people worried about tv being dangerous for children 50 years ago

am I the only one who doesn't really see the problem with children watching pornography? I mean anyone younger than 12-13 won't be interested in it and anyone of that age or older it's a perfectly healthy natural thing. I can sort of see the problem with booze but I have never had the doctor tell me to cut down on my wanking. unless of course your a more religious family and believe it's a (puts on Irish accent) dirty sinful ting, but I very much doubt the parents at that age did not ever use pornography.

Something disturbs me about people getting together to watch porn. I'd rather they play videogames.
LMAO! Good Call, My parents seem more concerned about violence i guess?
I mean ive stumbled in a few times and been sick everywhere from booze and my brother whos 10 years older than me found it hilarious where as my dad just helped me out and took the piss out of me after about it.

Usually it's my mum who's concerned about the violence and tries to stop me watching things like saw etc but it never really comes into the game catagory as most of the time they have no clue what theyre buying me.

They don't really care about sex and all that mostly because i see fit that i will NEVER discuss anything sexual with my parents as it's creepy and weird. I tend to keep my porn habits double agent secret to save the awkwardness of my dad sitting me down and talking about it.

I think this poll, and most parents, are rediculous in terms with computer game sex, drugs and rock n' roll. What they most likely fear are these news stories where children have played manhunt for hours on end then go out and murder their best friend, you HAVE to be pretty deranged ot murder your best friend in the first place so i doubt manhunt or any game encouraged that?

To be fair being scared of the sex aspect is silly as most teenagers are very sexually active already, most people loose their virginity by the time their 14 and if they havn't theyve been pleasured in other ways by some of the opposite or same sex.

STOP WORRYING YOU SILLY PARENTS, ITS LIFE GO AND DO YOUR BILLS AND DRINK YOUR WINE.

Except that its not a natural thing, it is a fantasy representation of sex in the mind of the director. In many cases it objectifies women and places people in unreal situations where they act in ways contrary to human nature. I am by no means anti-porn, but I think its unhealthy for an adolescent to start developing sexual stereotypes from this imagery. Adults are (usually) capable of understanding the distance between porn and reality.

Oh, and you game-fearing parents just need to put the time in to be familiar with your kid's activities. Play the demos, if you can't do that then watch some game videos. At least read a review or 2, or just look at the damn box. The rating and the box art should at least be an indicator of what to expect. Talk to your kids about the gameplay. Recognize when they are latching on to unnatural stereotypes and explain to them why you disagree. Listen to their online banter and discuss any racist or homophobic talk they engage in. If you aren't willing to do this, then you shouldn't have a console.

Perhaps the most relevant bit is "parents we spoke with ... bemoaned the fact that they didn't know how to use game controls ... Of course, parents don't want their children drinking alcohol, but that's a more familiar risk"

Thats a good point. Most parents have been drunk and watched porn, but can't play the game and can't see what's in the game. Unlike a film, where you can fast forward or whatever. I suppose the fear is the character swearing whilst being drunk and killing someone in a sex club... which i think I've actually nearly managed to do in GTA4 so... heh.
What he said.

My family doesn't give a damn about me looking at porn, so long as they know about it. (Just to spite them, I don't.) Underage drinking is sort of the same. I was told so long as I make a call to them to take me home, it won't be talked about.

"Billy what are you doing?!?!"

"Having un-protected sex with this hooker, drinking whiskey and smoking mum, honest"

"Is that Grand Thieving Automobile young man? Oh you are in so much trouble. Once you finish up with Candy and finish your drink you are in so much trouble mister!!"

People are stupid. Like, Batman will save me stupid.

I wish my mother worried more about my video game playing habits than my constant drinking. It'd make life alot more easy. I'd pick up the phone and hear ***** about something DIFFERENT for a change.

And i've never understood why sex has been looked down upon by modern culture. I've seen parents let nine and six year olds into a movie that has one man dieing every three seconds. Yet will refuse to allow the said children in if they here about it having a sex scene.

So they don't want the kids to see a natural human act like sex, but are fine with the unnatural act of murder?
(I think it was Rambo, the remake where he liquifies that one guy with a machine turret.)

Although I do consider most porn to be "unnatural". Hell, if you've ever seen "Goatse", "the Pain Series" and "Lemon Party", then you know you've been desensitized to everything the world can throw at you. It's all fun and games after that....

At the same time, parents are kind of hypocrites. They let their sons walk around like they think they're some gangsta with their pants at their knees as young as 11 and their daughters dress like sluts starting about that age.

Them Got-darned children. This is why my father beat me as a child, because it builds character! Teaches you respect!

Everytime I see small children running around at my nearby convenience store, I watch them. If they're respecting the premise and the adults, and don't talk to strangers, I smile and wave at the parent. Sometimes I buy the kids some candy as a reward for good behavior.

If they're acting the maggot, however, throwing around their non-existent weight, disrespecting everyone in their "awesome prescense", I inform the guardian that they should give the little pricks a few good clouts to teach them manners.

If they refuse or begin to talk about "child abuse". I stop listening and start scaring the children, which is easy, because I usually have a bottle of vodka with me. Apparently they recognize it's significance. I'm not telling them to grab a hickory stick and beat the kid's ass until you break the bones, i'm saying to punsih them so they don't turn into assholes in the future. All it takes is a heavy slap on the back of the head, some angry sounds, and no dinner.

Simple.

GTA is kind of bad. I wouldn't want my child playing that kind of a game. However, that's the only game I would have a problem with. Yeah, I grew up with Mortal Kombat in elementary school, but I was killing Goro, not killing hookers after having sex with them.

EDIT: More worried about GTA that their child becoming a alcoholic?!? What the fuck is wrong with these parents?

I can see where they're coming from. They've gone through the porn and booze stage, but the video games they were raised with (parents that is) aren't what we're being raised with today. My mum is a bit like that. So one day, I sat her down with Half Life and BioShock and played those with her, explaining that just because I was killing in this virtual world doesn't mean I want to go around and beat people in the head with a crowbar or wrench. And that I played them to vent.

She's now not "scared" of video games.

I think that if parents voiced their concerns to their kids and their kids took the time to not be little shits (like some kids I've known), parents wouldn't be "lazy" or "terrible parents".
