So I always found parkour to be extremely douchey, and always thought of people that do it as stuck up. I even was surprised when a friend of mine was attempting to "master" it, luckily he did not succeed.

Now granted, there are some amazing stunts I've seen done, and I always appreciate innovative ways or moving around the city, but I still can't make myself like it, or the people that do it.

Because it's not like they don't drive cars at all, but they show off jumping on trash bins for the camera. It's just a stunt, but it's classified by some as "way of navigating over every obstacle in front of you, instead of bypassing it" in lame-mans terms.

So in short, this was a rant on why I think parkour is just some street stunts, nothing more.

And so I give you the only parkour video I've ever enjoyed.

I've always thought of it as a "sport" done by a bunch of douchenozzles, but I do have immense respect for them because they do things I could never do.

I've seen free runners in my town and honestly I don;t find a problem with them... we once did a sort of free running thing, except it was more a 4 man mosh pit in the centre of town that got out of hand.

A couple of my friends practice parkour and they're pretty high up on my 'who needs to survive my apocalypse' list. Not because of the parkour, but because they're not retarded idiots who categorize everyone who does a certain thing.

If you remove the flare that they add to the getting from a to b parkour is actually pretty insane...Fuck take me back two years and I'd be up for some urban cross country.

I do it a little. I can run up all a wall or whatever, or like hop a fence while running and not lose momentum. But I never tried, Building to building stuff. Partly because if I mes up, I'm dead or at least injured, and their are no places close to me with building hopping possibility's without doing it on houses, and then its STILL to long a jump for anyone.

I like it, some crazy stuff out their.

Guy in my school did a parkour display in a talent show, just did front flips over a table over and over for five minutes. What a douchebag.

I like the idea, but if one of my friends claimed they were going to take it up, I'd strongly advise them not to. I just don't see how breaking your bones is worth the high you get from jumping over a fence.
I haven't met anyone who does parkour, so I wouldn't know for sure, but that's all it seems to me.

As a spectacle, it's pretty darned cool. Let's face it, Mirror's Edge wouldn't have had the exact same impact if you'd spent the game stuck in traffic, regularly looking at your watch to see how late you are.

Enjoy your report.
I'm sorry, but why report him for that? True, it is almost a thinly veiled dig at you as the OP, but even so, the guy is entitled to an opinion, as am I, and as are you. There was absolutely no need to report him for that, especially when all he did was give an opinion and his (valid) answer to the thread. To be honest, I agree with him. Parkour is awesome, in my opinion, and as a hobby it's exactly the same as something like reading, or playing video games, or listening to music. That is to say, you cannot generalise everyone who does it under a single banner.

I've done a little bit of amateur parkour myself. Would you say I'm a stuck-up, show-off douche? Well? And if so, then not only would I take offence but I'd also want to know why you felt that way, especially as you don't even know me. I'm by no means trying to offend you, myself, especially as you may notice I've tried to avoid swearing or deliberately being an arrogant git here, but I still feel the need to, you know, get my point across, and defend someone who was, quite frankly, doing nothing more than giving his opinion - one you seem to disagree with and reported him for out of what appears to be simple spite.

The report button was made for just that kind of comments. If the mods disagree so be it, but I found it offensive. He was trying to insult me,when I was talking how I see parkour, there's no problem if we have different opinions. I didn't say anyone that makes parkour is a douchebag I just said to me the only people that try it are showing off,not doing it for sport or to get around town.

Nope, I can't agree that it's just jumping off bins for a camera, the shit they do is immensely hard and must feel amazing to land. I'm incredibly jealous I'll never be able to do anything like it to get that feeling.

Okay then, fair enough, though I still disagree with you on that point. And you didn't answer my second question, when I mentioned I've done a little bit of parkour myself and find it cool :p

Sorry I added a bit now, I always use the edit feature.

*EDIT* Like I said, I never understood my friend when he started, actually when he attempted to start it.He eventually said it was to show off to a girl.I can't do anything except ask you details why do you like it? Is it the Assassin's Creed wanna-be in you or something wanting it? Are motivated like my friend was?

I was actually trying to get into it a couple years ago, then I realized I'm too much of a coward.

Ok free-running does not equal parkour. They are similar but not the same. Free-running has more emphasis on flips and tricks. Parkour is more about moving quickly under, over, or around things in the fastest manner with little energy and without breaking momentum. Atleast that is how I always saw the two.

I actually love parkour alot. It is a great way to stay fit and damn fun. Free-running is kinda show offish, but it doesnt really bother me.

I don't think they actually call it a sport; I think it's more of an exercise-type thing. I dunno, I like jumping around on stuff though, because really, who doesn't?

Anyways, I think it's KINDA cool, just 'cause it has like... a buncha flips and stuff. I wouldn't exactly like... do it, but I'd probably just keep on doing mah thang.

Theres more to Parkour than jumping off bins for the video camera.

If thats what you think it is then maybe its better you're not into it.

Also

If it has a flip in it, it's not Parkour, its freerunning.

"Parkour is unessescary. It's like 'I could walk down the street, or I could do 90 flips.'"
Cake for the reference.
