Most of my friends who I party up with, are getting Modern Warfare 2 so I shouldn't have to much of a problem with it. I do hate the fact that a third party is trying to take away something that I've been accustomed to for a long time. I signed the petition just because I think it's wrong that IW is trying to take it away.

The new thread saying that Modern Warfare 2 is not having party chat is getting a lot of responses. So this thread was born to talk about party chat in general and whether it's good or bad they took it away.

Firstly, I couldn't be happier that they took it away in this game, I feel that in all games it should be taken away while playing in online matches. This is a problem in a lot of games, particularly gears of war in my experience, this is only a problem in Gears, the fact that people no longer use game chat and instead just hang out in parties. Now don't even tell me that while playing with your friends in a party you never said "hes up there at the tower" or something because if so you are lieingI have. Then again, most of the time, it's because I'm playing Team Deathmatch, and am therefore able to say that even in normal, non-party chat. In parties it takes away the whole concept of when theres 2 people left because both teams know exactly where the other is and what he is doing. IT'S CHEATING in short.Again, only a problem in Gears. Even in Search and Destroy (the only game besides Cage Match (which doesn't allow specators) that can be 1 v 1), you can only see what the surviving members of your team see, unlike the ghost cam in Gears

I've now for Modern Warfare 2 complaints. Am I the only one who knows about this magical thing called game chat? What if I'm playing MW2 and want to talk to friends playing, for example, Borderlands? I also know about another thing, PRIVATE CHAT you know that thing that we use to use before we had parties to talk to your friends? That's only for talking with one other people, whereas I routinely talk to around 5 at any one time in a Party.

Another complaint is the fact that you will now be mixed in with the other players (IW HOW COULD YOU). And you point out that there is a lot of people who are annoying 13 year olds or "way to into it" older people. Now again, a lot of people also missed out on another wonderful feature of xbox live: MUTE.Fair enough, we can mute, as we did before Party chat, but that's only part of the issue. See above

EDIT: I would also like to add that you do not need to be chatting to your friends 24/7 and if you do then try a phone. What if I want to talk to more than one person or talk to one of my friends in, say, Scotland? OR Hell even play a game with your friends, wouldn't that be amazing, you know, playing instead of talking with your friends? So, you want me to force my friends to play MW2 just so I can talk to them, even if they'd rather play something else? What about the friends that don't have the game?

Now go for it, state your opinion on this.
My comments are the emboldened parts of the above.
i fail to see the point of you making this page longer to load for some people instead of just replying
ot:

1 search and destroy, in other games getting achievements, free for all, rainbow 6 vegas
2. ok thats great for cod but in tactical games where you need to work together could be easily fixed by parties
3. and when one of your friends ends up on the other team or when they die they can easily tell you where they died and tell them where the other team is
4.how about next time you just do this in an normal fashion?
5. so talking to 1 person at a time isnt good enough? well then damn me to hell for i am wrong
6.i fail to see what you mean by part of the issue
7.then play something else because obviously playing games is more important than talking to friends to you

Heck, I thought discussing the game being played was the entire purpose of Party Chat. I mean, you get with a group of friends, you all hop on the same game, you talk tactics. It just makes sense, that's what I thought it was there for.

I dunno. I hate to side with petitioners on anything, but I think they've got a valid point this time. Taking way the ability to stay in a party while you're in a game was kind of a dick move.

Then again, so was leaving a six-player lobby mode out of Street Fighter IV, a feature that's arguably as important to the fighting game scene as party chat is to the FPS scene, but I didn't break down and cry about it.
that is what game chat is for

I missed this point my first time around, I'll address it now. So, we "don't need" to be be talking to our friends 24/7, eh? Two things:
1)Who are you to say what we need? For many people, myself included, talking with friends is THE most enjoyable part of XBL
2)Even if we didn't "need" it, it's a feature we pay good money for, and no third party should be able to take that away.
you are paying for a service you dont decide what that service offers, you dont like it? dont get it

My apologies, I didn't realize it made it so much harder.

1)How do you propose people are using it in SnD? Sure, maybe if they're on opposite teams, but that's hard to engineer, especially if you're in a party. I'm not saying it can't happen, but does it really justify getting rid of the chat on such a level? As for other games, I was aware that we were talking about CoD, as that's the first game I've heard of to even contemplate getting rid of this.

2)Maybe that's true, and parties aren't a one-size-fits-all sort of deal. I know we've already acknowledged that they are bad in Gears of War, and I'll take your word for it on Rainbow Six, but the fact remains that none of them are getting rid of it, whereas a game where it literally makes 0 sense to get rid of it is.

3)Again, the first one is difficult to engineer, and even then is not a guarantee of success if the other player is remotely competent. To the second part, this game tends to be very fluid. Chances are that the people who killed you will not stay in the same place. If they do stay in the same play, 9 times out of 10 they have an extremely good position that's hard to attack, immediately lessening the advantage of just knowing where they are

4)Wow, avoiding the issue by making fun of my format. Nice. Since I snipped my post out, I'll just put what that part said as a point of information. I asked "What if I'm playing MW2 and want to talk to friends playing, for example, Borderlands?"

5)No, talking to one person at a time is damn well not good enough, as I'm regularly in parties with 5 or more people. Besides, although we haven't heard anything about private chats yet, I'd find it hard to believe that they'll leave people able to use that, especially since, by your logic, people could still cheat with that.

6)I was just pointing out that you had a point, we can mute people manually, but that is a hassle.

7)I think you reversed that last part, but yes, I'm planning on not getting this game because Party Chat is that important to me. Obviously, it's not so important to you, so I guess we'll just have to conclude that we're two different people.

I have to say it doesn't really matter to me, though if enough people don't get MW2, then maybe, just maybe, Activision will listen. However, with Kotick in charge, this seems unlikely. However, between the OP and a few of the other posters, I feel I have to say
