If you are one of the five people still playing...
Excellent zinger. That qualifies as a Level 4 Burn on EA.

I am curious, if any of the 5 players are here, if the patches patch the ability to crack the game to play it offline?

Oh no...please no...the last time you tried to fix this bug my good city is now in standstill at rush hour and for some god damn reason my homeless count went up ten fold...
I read somewhere that your sims don't have an actual home, they just go in a random house. Maybe the ones stuck in traffic count as homeless people.
God knows I gave up, the game is just frustrating, especially as they still haven't fixed the roll back issue. EVERY single time my city gets big the server kills itself and wants to roll back my cities.

This stuff annoys me, games should not need patchs for main parts of the game after release. These are issues that should be noticed during testing and fixed instead of making people pay full price for an unfinished game. Its why hooking a console to the internet just enabled to release half arse releases with the promise that they can fix them later with patches. Never had this crap on PS1/PS2, ninty consoles etc games were immaculate when released because if there where issues then this would have to be recalled at the cost of hundreds of thousands of pounds. Now its, "fuck it, just add a day one patch", its not good enough, games should be playable out the box, not needing a patch. Imagine if they done that with movies and music?

This is like watching a slow motion train wreck.
The trains has already derailed and the cars are spinning through the air.
But the engineer still seems too think that he can fix everything by madly pounding on the instrument panel.

"The only patch that would get people to actually sit up and pay attention would be the one that removes the need to be constantly connected to play and increases the city size limits."

This. One thousand times, this. If they do this, I will actually buy the damn game.

Since very few people are playing it, EA will probably shut down the servers in not too long. And if they release a offline patch, then it MIGHT get a few more people trying it.

But I doubt it.

I'm 100% with Will Wright on this one. He gave us Sim City and so much more back in the day, and this is how EA handles the IP, the outrage, the customer satisfaction? Poor job, really.

I'm still holding off until we either get a proper after market mod that fixes the game and the always-on crap. No money thrown at EA until Sim City is fixed. Meanwhile, I find it exceedingly easy to stick to that plan.

Not too happy about EA's deal with Disney on the Star Wars job. Let's see how that turns out.

The game is BROKEN at it's BASIC level.

Rather than a system like Cities XL which compared to this seems like a fucking MASTERPIECE where each household has a set job, the vehicles have an actual AI, not just go the shortest route always and the maps are not as small as a flea testicle.

This small combination ensures that roads become manageable. You can actually guide traffic which in Simcity is fucking impossible. You will not be able to manage traffic because you have NO idea where it comes from, where it will go, how much it will be or which roads it will choose.

Public transportation is also a waste of time because the bus stops can only be put on ONE side of a road, the buses are managed by a stupid AI rather than the player setting the most optimal course and this basically holds true for the other public transport systems.

The game essentially refuses to allow the player to dictate the flow of traffic, the routes of public transport or even the amount of traffic in the city. This basically results in a fucking mess of transit that will happen regardless of your efforts because the game basically plays itself.

You are there to put down roads and buildings and the rest is left up to an AI that does not exist. WHY? WHY? Why make a simulation game where all the player does is plop down buildings?

It is fucking impossible without reworking the entire system behind the distribution of workers, the traffic AI and the sink-hole system.

Once again, I applaud the Escapist for its blatant yellow journalism! Way to make Fox News look like a godsend!

At any rate, I love the game, city sizes included. Most of the bugs aren't as bad (if you're unlucky to encounter them at all) as they sound on paper.

EA botched the server issue and that has caused everyone to write this game off. Sad really. But it just is another exampe of proving the sickening hive mentality in the gaming community.

Oh well. I'm off to continue expanding my casino empire! tata!

Captcha: Do you love me?
Casino Empire? Wasn't there a bug not too long ago that caused all but the basic casinos to not work?

Ah well I'm sure the game is fine based on what you said, it's not like the game has a completely broken RCI demand or that the game still rolls back hours and hours of progress randomly this long after release.

No I'm sure the game is just fine and people ar---

Damn now I have to respond to people rather than be a smart ass then run. I really need to work out so I can actually do the run part.

=D That's a brilliant way of looking at it. It's strange that despite such persuasive logic I'm still untempted to buy a game with not very useful always-online that has been broken for two months since they started selling it to people. There must be something wrong with me :p

ACM wasn't a bug, the demo had features that Time Gate (the studio that just went bust) put in, and then when Gearbox took control they ripped all of it back out of the game and carried on making it at the level it came out on.
But if it is not a bug it is a feature? So the whole game is one big feature? Oh well I still have avp, avp2, and primal hunt. So glad I did not preorder ACM. Such a sad story, much like the ones the spawn serial killers in movies.

They are giving no support.

All patches have been tiny fixes. Traffic isn't fixed because it is highly compressed, not to scale of a real road or city.

Simcity also has shitty roads that don't have the capacity of their real world counter parts.

Hell, there is a video on this.

From what I read on both Reddit and simcity forums. The population dropped like a rock, and fewer and fewer are playing online.
I see the power of my smart ass has overridden your sense I am sorry about that. That post was a joke seeing as all of the fixes have been jokes. I am sorry that this was not clear to you.

I'm so glad this game still has support, just like I'm glad that the Modern Warfare/Black Ops still has modder support. I mean think of how much fun I would not have with that series if every other person had a mod that allowed them to one shot kill everyone the second they come into view or see other players through walls. I'm so glad that Activision allows this to go on.

I'm also so glad that it is legal to sell non-functional software and then be able to refuse refunds. I wish everything was this way. I mean who cares if I die from botulism or my tires fall off when I'm on the freeway? Survival of the fittest.
A man? after my own heart! Ok are you a man or woman? I only know of two ways to check online. One is the profile the other is to pants you. I would prefer to avoid the second option. And your profile says nothing! Pantsing it is.

But yes I agree we need to go back to the age of robber barons and no laws protecting anyone without a shit ton of money! Sure I would die in a week, but it would be an interesting week?

P.S. It is fun to beat cheaters in games, rare, but when it happens so very worth it.

Yes, it's the gamers' mentality that is sickening.

Yup, they could have made a perfectly good game, but nooooo, they just had to go drinking rum with Captain Jack.

Reading these articles feels like watching someone bale out a sinking boat with a bucket when they have a perfectly good water pump behind them. Also the bucket has a hole in it.
and is on fire.

OT: I've been hearing lots about how people are abandoning the game in droves but I've yet to see anything concrete. Of course I don't expect to see any actual number from EA, but so far it all seems to be rumor or an assumed consequence. Mind you I'm not trying to defend the game, just that I'd be interested in seeing the factual drop in players since launch.

Other than that there's not much more to say about the hole EA has dug for Sim City. They fucked up in a spectacularly ignorant fashion and it's at best causing them a minor annoyance.

I can't help but wonder if some of this mess is being caused by the belief that releasing an imperfect product and then fixing it later leads to a better public image than just releasing a working game. The only thing going through my mind at the moment is how idiotic and incompetent EA is looking at the moment.
