At college, my paranoia and Xbox playing dad have made me not wanna take my Xbox to my dorm room. Because of this my only games are Pokemon, Guild Wars, Warcraft 3, and Spore. Pokemon is becoming less and less able to entertain me because I've almost caught them all, Warcraft 3 scares me and takes too long, Guild Wars has become unplayable for some reason (boring as hell...), and Spore is kinda childish (I can hide Pokemon, but not my entire laptop screen).

Anyways...

What FPS games should I get for my PC? I have TF2 for Xbox, and I'm going to trade it in for a PC version, but are there any others that are good? I might try CoD4 or Counterstrike, but I'm not sure. Keep in mind I haven't played an FPS on my computer since Chex Quest.
Edit: To clarify, TF2 is the Orange Box. Also, I'm talking about multiplayer games with good amounts of people still playing. And one where I can just hit search for game and join one.

Yeah, I suggest going for Counter Strike and CoD4:MW. They're both good games.

You could also try Fallout 3 (just about slips into your niche), if you've got the PC Specs for it.

Don't get Modern Warfare 2, at least not for PC. They cut out all the useful features like private servers and mods. If you need a COD game, get COD 5, as that still has a thriving PC community.(COD4 might also still have a large online community, but I wouldn't know)

I don't know if your PC can run it, but if it can, get ARMA 2. One of the best realistic shooters out there. If you can't run ARMA 2 decently, get Operation Flashpoint.

When you say you will trade you TF2 for the PC version will you gat the ORang box or just TF2. Orange Box gives you HL2 as which is a good game and Portal.

If you're going to get Counter Strike, be prepared to not like it and for an arse whooping. The whooping is guaranteed for a while, but it may also put you off. I love it, but I'm just warning.

Also, have a look at Borderlands, it's an FPS with heavy RPG elements (and humour!) like leveling, randomly assembled weapons (meaning that there are thousands of weapons) and you can co-op with three other people.

Then there's Fallout 3, an FPSRPG. It's set in post-nuclear Washington D.C. Basically I love this game, there are so many ways to customize your gameplay.

I'd look at L4D2, a "zombie" shooter. Personally I've just preordered it :D

Ahem. Half Life series, Cod series, Crysis, Bioshock, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Killing floor, Painkiller, Operation: Flashpoint, Battlefield 1942, 2, 2124 and Project reality. Just for starters.

No point in getting COD4, Modern Warfare 2 comes out in less than 2 weeks. I'd get that and Bioshock.
There is plenty of point in getting Call of Duty 4. It's not like you can't get both that and Modern Warfare 2.

Anyway, if I were you, I'd get Counter-Strike or Half-Life 2 (deathmatch). You can play those pretty much indefinitely. (Yeah, CoD 4 has multiplayer. It's about as fun as watching paint dry.)

The Valve complete pack is pricey, but will keep you in games for a good long while.

what do you mean warcraft 3 scares you? anyway, left 4 dead is good, along with staples like COD4 and Bioshock. Maybe you might want to pick up the Unreal Anthology instead of more modern games.

Ya, probably, unless the Orange Box costs much more. I've already played Half Life 2 and Portal on the Xbox, and I'm already done with them for the most part.

Ya, but I might get that for Xbox (might not due to scratches I've been hearing about lately...). Plus, why the hell doesn't it come out before Halloween?

Quake Live; its a free version of one of the most famous games in FPS history, Quake III, made by the guys who invented the FPS. Its a bit old, but its a great game.
register and get it at www.quakelive.com

Left 4 Dead and its sequel Left 4 Dead 2 are must haves, though you should probably just wait until L4D2 comes out to get it.

GET the ORANGE BOX instead of just trading your xbox copy of TF2.
its 3 games for the price of one.
Half Life 2 is a classic game as are its two intriguing expansions episodes 1 and 2
Portal is just amazing
TF2 is just TF2.
Source games are just more fun on PC.

Fallout 3 is also very fun, the PC version is much better than the 360 version (better graphics, mod support, cheats are tons of fun)

I am not much of a Call of Duty fan, but its supposed to be good so I'd recommend it (if you're playing PC, don't get the new version, the lack of dedicated servers will make multiplayer nothing short of a nightmare that lags to high heaven.)

edit: I see you've already played HL2 and Portal, STILL GET THE ORANGE BOX.
if you get the Orange Box you can then play mods for HL2 and Portal that expand the game, great stuff like Project Athena and Half Life 2: Subsistence (makes the game playable with Metal Gear Solid characters, very funny.)

I usually see the Orange Box now for $30. By the way, don't buy it used. You won't be able to play it because it will have already been linked to someone else's Steam account.

Well assuming that you learn reeeaaaally fast then hell yes Get TF2 for your PC (by learning I mean getting used to mouse and keyboard, and reading up on some onlines guides and watching evil daedelus' videos on Youtube for help...or go pyro...)

Left 4 Dead. Badassery meets zombies.

Borderlands for PC. See above minus zombies.

Bioshock 1 it should be cheap by now and the game still rocks your socks off.

Masseffect 1 cheap, hella good multiple playthroughs are encouraged.

Counter Strike Source. Intense FPS experience, but if you suck at M&K then you will be seeing the respawn screen for a while.

Star Wars Jedi Outcast 2. TBH it isn't the best but it's been years and I'm still playing it and I'm sure you can find *Cough* a Torrent *Cough* for it.

You know what just buy the orange box if you can still fine one.

Unreal Tournament 3. Incase anyone sees your pokemon, you have this to show that you drip testosterone and surely you weren't the one playing Pokemon.

Call of Duty 2

Call of Duty 4

uhhh.... yeah. If buy atleast TF2 you'll be happy for months,

So buy TF2. AND BORDERLANDS :D (No one I know that lives near me have it for PC QQ)

I've played it so much I've forced myself into thinking I'm good at it, and I'm afraid of actually being bad at it. So, if I don't play, I can continue thinking I'm good.
Also, to everyone who said Bioshock or other single player games: I've already done everything in Bioshock and I'm talking about multiplayer.
