Avoid Oblivion like the plague. If you loved Fallout 3, you will hate Elder Scrolls IV.
And if you liked Morrowind, avoid it even more. Oblivion is, without doubt, the worst RPG I've ever played.
I though Oblivion was alright; it had its problems, but what doesn't?
Fallout 3, on the other hand, is pretty damn good.
Buy STALKER. That's not up for debate, just buy it. Both games. Hell, they're on sale on steam, so you have no excuse not to.
Mount & Blade is good if you want an RPG that leans to the realistic side.
Prey if you're looking for a wonderfully insane FPS.
And Supreme Commander- Giant robots go STOMP STOMP STOMP
STALKER was 'meh' at best, but at its current sale price, worth going for probably. And Prey was generic in its gameplay, though it was a pretty unique story.
meh? meh? WHAT.
STALKER was atmospheric, pretty, had just enough RPG bits that it still felt like a shooter while letting you improve and the quaint translation errors just added to the fun.
And I said Prey because of the story. Weapons are fun, too- like fleshy versions of the standard FPS weapons. THIS IS FUCKED UP. NO THIS IS EVEN MORE FUCKED UP. FUCKFUCKFUCK YOU ALIENS.

Is Oblivion anything like Morrowind? I played it ages ago and liked it.
Actually I just liked taking over all the guilds, randomly killing guards and exploring to find more people to kill, treasure to steal... Apparently Oblivion added horses which would make it even easier to explore, which means more people to waste with customized fireballs and levitate spells.
No, if you liked Morrowind then Oblivion will feel like dumbed down uninteresting shit.
(No Medium armour skill, no short/long blade skills, no axe skill, no choice of enchantement type- all amulets are constant effect, all weapons are cast on strike, no choice of enchantment strength- all weapons can take the same enchantment strength. All items are leveled, so any quests you do give better rewards at higher level, despite supposedly being the same item, and by level 20-something all bandits are wearing daedric armour. You're pretty much fucked if you chose to concentrate on non-combat skills.)
Oh, and there is no Levitate spell. It's gone, completely.
