PC games have outsold consoles for decades. I mean, the average sales of a console is what, a few million a year? Maybe fifteen million in its launch year? Minecraft alone has sold three million copies; all PC games combined? Many times more.

Well, consoles being a coin op, and don't try to deny Micro, YOU KNOW why you product place so much.

Well, if games start to sell more on PC then on consoles, then we might start to see more game actually made for PC and less shitty console ports. I swear the majority of multiplatform games now are just ported to PC with the bare-minimum needed to pass as a PC game (mouse, keyboard, configurable settings, console), if that.

And yet, I feel that in spite of whatever power trends may be occurring between consoles and PCs, you're average frat boy/gamer/normal person, isn't going to want to spend the time/money to learn how to upgrade a computer and/or buy a new one every four or five years, whereas they probably won't mind dropping $300-500 every console generation of five to six years.

That is, until desktops become so cheap that they simply begin to become as replaceable as consoles.

Sweet. It makes sense if you think about it. The graphics plateau we're at now is good for PC gaming because it means people don't have to upgrade their computers nearly as much. Through the early/mid 2000s we had to upgrade with the consoles, but now, not nearly as much.

Will we even have PCs at that point? I think tablets and smartphones are going to catch up to PCs before PCs catch up to games, sadly.

You'd think a company that prides itself on having the cutting edge in computer graphics would have better looking charts.

Granted its coming from someone with a stake in the success of PC gaming but this is indeed good news. May the unwashed masses finally bow down before the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race!

Wait, what?

Are you saying that tablets/smartphones will be more powerful than PCs by 2014 or provide a larger market? As I see it, the markets are very large on mobile platforms, but the games are significantly cheaper/smaller/simpler. It's just a different platform, for now it isn't competitive (that is, until the inevitable W8/Xbox Live merger).

Catch up?
Yeah, portable miniature computers are improving, but so are normal PCs.
By the time tablets and cellphones have the processing power of today's PCs, PCs will be able to form galaxies.

Slight exaggeration aside, PCs will always have a place.
Portable gaming is nice, I agree, but had I a choice to play a game on a small handheld screen or on a massive 24" 1920*1200 screen while leaning back in my comfy office chair that doubles as a rocking chair, there's no question about which I'd pick.

But, does it really matter? I mean, really does it? I dont see why there has to be the constant debate about which is better PC or Console. Eventually, we'll get to the point where both are won and it will pretty much be a monopoly on the new system.

Then the "master race" will have to associate with us Serfs and Dregs of the world and realize that they're no longer the superior, and that those who do think that way will only be hipster.

EDIT:

...

Besides, as long as sales are sales and are on the surplus side and not a constant digging yourself into the hole side, then Im happy, cause it means finally attempting to right the financial wrong in the world.
Yeah, I don't get it either.

Why can't we just play our games? Why must we so insecure about our choices of platform? Isn't "fun" and "a unique interactive experience" the point of games rather than what you play it on?

I see two paragraphs of the news actual report, and 4 paragraphs of gushing over how amazing PC Gaming is and how it's sooooo much better than console gaming.
This is exactly what I was going to say. Why can't we just enjoy what each platform has to offer? PC's are exceptional for a few genres while consoles are great for lots of genres. The only real winners here would be the ones who can enjoy each platform.
And yeah, "This company said something in support of PC gaming with this evidence. On a side note, HERE'S A BUNCHA PARAGRAPHS WHY PC GAMING RULEZ! WOO!" doesn't make for a good article.

Eh, you'll have to forgive me. Im not big on PC gaming so I could care less what gets on the PC.

Which isnt meant to be insulting in any way, just crappy ports arent a thorn in my side (one of the reasons I prefer to game on consoles rather then a PC).

...and the android and apple app stores will bury them all in products sold.

Nvidia do seem to be back on track with the 500 series after some years in the wilderness while ATI spanked them soundly. I think they may be worried about the future incarnations of Bulldozer and Sandy Bridge though.
