Fucking starts at $4599 so yea the above $1500 PC is certainly possible.
I bet you could build that beast yourself for half the price.

but seriously, that's one of the best of the best, like a "damn, I can't believe this exists", top of the tech tree.

Don't even look at those if you aren't wiping your ass with baby seal fur. Although one thing is for certain, that PC will last you for like, 2 generations.

Case: Antec Three Hundred = 40?
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 = 140?
MoBo: ASUS P5K-series (like P5KC with Intel Chipset) = 80?
GFX: ASUS EN8800GT = 150?
RAM: Corsair 4GB PC2-6400 (800Mhz) CL4 = 80?
Powersupply: Enermax Liberty 500W = 80?
HDD: Western Digital 250GB = 40?
________________________________________________

= 610?

If you don?t already have a monitor and want to add a 22? with 1680x1050 = 200?
Additional stuff like keyboard, DVD-drive, mouse = 50?
(don't forget that when you're upgrading you can usually easily get rid of your old stuff on Ebay & Co. and use that for the payment of the new equipment)

A PS3 costs 400-500? here depending on where/which you buy
A XboX360 costs around 270?
A good 720p 32"+ TV starts at 450?+
I?m pretty sure you can get the hardware even cheaper in the US, because it?s usually that way that we pay lots more? if you don?t care about the brand or the quality of the components you can even buy a complete system for a price just little above that of a PS3
im going to convert the prices into american, just because its outragous, not that i think your lieing ;)

Case: Antec Three Hundred = $62.06
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 = $217.21
MoBo: ASUS P5K-series (like P5KC with Intel Chipset) = $124.12
GFX: ASUS EN8800GT = $232.73
RAM: Corsair 4GB PC2-6400 (800Mhz) CL4 = $124.12
Powersupply: Enermax Liberty 500W = $124.12
HDD: Western Digital 250GB = $62.06

= $946.42

If you don?t already have a monitor and want to add a 22? with 1680x1050 = $310.30
Additional stuff like keyboard, DVD-drive, mouse = $77.58

A PS3 costs $620.60-$775.75 here depending on where/which you buy
A XboX360 costs around $418.91
A good 720p 32"+ TV starts at $698.18+

actualy the prices arnt as bad as i thought.

Look I?m guessing this is one of those typical forums where people take turns and spread their delicious hatred about so and so like a hybrid bukkake.. conspiracy but the PC myth's are true, as technology has no for see able end to what it can accomplish it comes with a great price tag, as consoles are released in simultaneous gaps of 5 years each bearing a reasonable lump sum retail and their own unique brand of game.. PC's are a painstaking huddled together mass of bug's glitches and poor programming each released in small doses of new hardware equals new software equalling new advertisement protocol equalling more assholes spreading victory Trojans fortifying the rage that is popups and simultaneous computer meltdown's.. Followed by the immediate ridicule of family members

BUT the plus side is, PC's will always be around and like most people on this forum point to on this forum has been read and accredited; for as long as there are PC's there will be companies dedicated to its constant expensive painstaking upgrading and updating in the game play market.. now what the doomsayers had left out was that the most popular usage of the PC in gaming are FPS and RTS, TBS, MMORPG and considering internet provider, free access rather than the 360's approach hiss hiss.. YOU cannot produce these genre's for gaming consoles as Yatzee has clearly stated console games lack depth and furthermore the idea of playing say C&C 3 in a Xbox format was laughable at best, strategy gamers need a PC or at least the keyboard and mouse which yes can be bought and have been compatible with some consoles but all lack the greatness that is a PC with its many MANY flaw's but with its reassuring perks and easy day to day use and more so awesomeness in the front of other features aside from gaming we dearly rely on

Oh and DExter those are some awesome prices the currency transfer rate in $ to £ are 2:1, those are piss cheap considering what I have forked out for... christ it cost me in translation $100 for simply 1GB of Ram never mind fecking 43 pound!... I WANT THAT CPU!

Well, in response to Karns reply, it doesn't dominate, I would prefere to play a driving game, or fighting game on a pad. I try to play killer instinct on my PC through mame, but I need a pad. The stick is good for driving because it feels more natural than a mouse.

As to FPS gaming, it depends on the game. Battlefield and steam (counterstrike, zombie panic, natural selection, all that jazz) I prefere on the PC, as you get more control over your movements. But games like Halo and Rainbow Six Vegas I prefere on Xbox, as it provides smoother aiming, and in some cases better performance. If you only need about 18 buttons and a move stick or two, why not use a pad?

Why are all these consoletards whining about having to upgrade their pc every so often?

I spend $100 a year upgrading my pc so that all my games run on high and newer games run on medium, which is like high on my older games because the standards are higher.

You spend $300 every 3 years to buy a new console. None of the newer games work at all on your old console.

Next argument!

Hmm let's see; you spend 100$us every year right? Console players spend 300$us every 3 years (according to you're numbers). So you too end up spending 300$us every 3 years also. Plus PC's don't get a shitload of games that are released for consoles only and viceversa. Hey man that's just the way it is; there are some that just don't like gaming on PC's, because of reasons that are really irrelevant to you (consoles HAVE their advantages over PC gaming), and the people that do prefer the PC as their prime gaming platform do so because of the endless posibilities in terms of costumization. But the most important thing is that although we have seen a lot of cross- platforming (Pc games to consoles, console games to PC) consoles and PC's offer very different gaming experiences.

You silly internet people are arguing about prices for systems and upgrading them. Just thought I should mention, consoles need parts and crap too. Controllers, obviously, but occasionally you might want a wireless controller, or maybe you bought a 360 (hardy-har-har) and you realized that you have to get your HD-DVD drive separate. Thats pretty expensive if I recall it, plus people like buying component cables, wii-remote addons, and bean bag chairs.

On top of all of that, there is the cost of games that everyone is leaving out. If you want a console game, you buy it, then you stop playing it when it gets lame. If you want a PC game you buy it, or steal it if you're thrifty...er... "A DIRTY FILTHY CRIMINAL THAT WANTS TO GET ACQUAINTED WITH BUBBA IN JAIL BEFORE HE GOES TO HELL FOR DOWNLOADING MP3s/movies/games/hotpockets". ~~(not an) Actual quote from the RIAA

(In no way am I advocating criminal activity, but I would be a liar if I trivialized the amount of content that gets downloaded\stolen off the internet) If you're not a crook and you want more game for less buck, you can always download freeware games and Mods whereas if you're a console-guy you need to shell out more cash. I'm not even going to get into the addons and patches that are released for PC games even though that should also be taken into account.

So since the price of equipment is equaled pretty well now that consoles are selling addons, and the amount of game you can get for your money is tilted so heavily in the favor of the PC that even Hillary Oprah and Rosie couldn't change it by jumping up and down on the console's side of the price scale, I think its fair to stop claiming that PC gaming is more expensive.

I had to register again to dispel the myths that PC gaming is dying. I am tired of reading on forums(and this one that somehow PC gaming is just dying), on the contrary its the complete opposite if you look at the amount of games being developed at the moment for PCs.

In fact a resurgence is going on in the wake of Sam & Max. It re-awoke the adventure games, even notable people such as the Monkey Island Series creators are making new adventure game IPs. Even Simulation and Space Simulation are making a comeback.

Proof( This is a blog listing all the PC games and the ones that are also cross-platform):

Part 1: http://www.twistedpolygon.net/news/special-features/the-pc-games-of-2008.html
Part 2: http://www.twistedpolygon.net/news/special-features/the-pc-games-of-2008---part-ii.html
Part 3: http://www.twistedpolygon.net/news/special-features/the-pc-games-of-2008---part-iii.html
Part 4: http://www.twistedpolygon.net/news/special-features/the-pc-games-of-2008---part-iv.html
Part 5: http://www.twistedpolygon.net/news/special-features/the-pc-games-of-2008---part-v.html

These lists do not include the recently announced Colonization game.

Strange, a few years ago the media claimed that gaming could possibly overtake hollywood's earnings, within 5-10 years. I am guessing that hollywood have taken action in some regard. PC gaming is deffinately in remission.

I feel it might be partly because of EA buying everyone out and thus making it obviously clear that you won't see games unless they feel like making em. The entire culture of our gaming society will end up being shaped by what is ea's model for the future.

My last arguement would be it might be possible that because, of the limited space available on the current generation of optical disk are forcing game developers(EA) to cram a lot of data into a package that previously wouln't have require many cds, as per older generation engines.

I mean that instead of making a game that was 5 cd's on a direcx 8 engine, you would probably require about 6 to 7 dvds to fit all the textures/sounds for the new version.

But that is hypothetically speaking. I hate when people would rather fight about which medium is best than actually trying to discuss critical aspects within the industry itself, this fanboyism is just a form of marketting to the uninformed.. in my opinion

I knew it! PC gaming is dying because of 3¾ floppy disks. We should've sticked with 8 inch drives.
Seriously, wtf? What do floppies and CD's have to do with the current generation of storage (as you put it) and with PC gaming dying out?

I agree on the EA thingy tho. PC exclusive gaming was hurt immensely by EA's shopping spree.

I was trying to point out, when we first saw the emmergance of Direct 3d gaming, to the likes of half-life, unreal etc.. they had an immense amount of storage to work with for their time.. as the previous generations of (dos) games were released on floppy/stiffy disks.

The increase in storage capability From floppies to cd was 300 fold, now, after 8 years of enhancements to the direct 3d gaming scene, we have to make do with dvds which is only about 5-6 times better than that of the cd's capabilities. I am arguing that until they discover a storage medium which can vastly improve on storage as well as utilising a high speed data throughput, pc games will just stay short n sheit ;)
