Taumel - 17/30 Ap, 2mp - The Lucent Reef
As the two monsters were carried away in bubbles the decorated Krake underlined the first description on the board and then wrote a second. "I have an extraordinarily large reward for anyone that can hunt down those two things and make them pay for my bar"
The Dead Mother had received a strange report following some kind of battle that she had missed. The younger in the Black Hand had been a bit riled up though. It was not every day that they claimed to witness a colossus being carried off by their spirit guide.
The report mentioned a bounty on a member of the Ghost Division. Obviously, she had to intervene as it had been set in her city. Besides, she had an agreement with The Banshee now. It would never be official, but her people were as much under the protection of the Black Hand as the rest.
An old deaf fey with long grey whiskers and a walking stick showed up at the bar not long after the battle had taken place. She moved slowly, but was followed by four younger Fey that all wore black and had painted their faces black.
"We're the law around here, dear." One of the younger fey interpreted after the Dead Mother had said it with sign language. "You wouldn't know, and by the time you do you've crossed the line."
Everyone in the bar was uneasy, most held still, the very few decorated who had heard of something like this beofore looked properly terrified. The sailors eyed the exit the krake at the bar raised her hands, things were more serious than she thought
"Look we are a new organisation, we fully intend to operate with the law, in any way possible." She adds indicating the destruction "we have nothing to do with them"
One of the four went looking for the supposed bounty board, and found it. She picked it up and showed it to the Dead Mother, who responded with a simple gesture when she had seen the name on the list.
The Dead Mother placed both of her paws on her walking stick, while the four swiftly charged into the battle in front of them. They knew how to fight swiftly and strike with such precision that there wasn't really a fight worth mentioning before everyone else had been knocked out.
It was a bit more difficult transporting these many through the area without being spotted, but they managed by calling in assistance from more black hand members. The two groups were separated once they were in the safety of the closest building owned by the black hand. Anyone who had been a simple bystander was given a fast death.
The ones who had been wearing all the trinkets and run the bar was kept alive a while longer. The krake in particular was lead into a dark room and slapped until she awakened. The Dead Mother sat at the other side of a table. She shook her head at her, like a disapproving parent catching a child in the act.
The owner of the philosopher's virtue yelled out in pain fear and confusion as she awoke.
"where am I! what's going on?!"
"You're in my care now." A voice came from behind the Krake, after the Dead Mother had made a few fast gestures. "You shouldn't have tried to start trouble by adding our friends onto a bounty list. Now look how many had to die because of you."
The prisoner struggled to get a veiw of her captor "I don't understand. We didn't know the animals were under your protection!"
The bounty list was placed in front of the prisoner on the table. The Dead Mother pointed at the name of the Ghost Division member on the list. She made a few more gestures after that."The reef's interest has always been under our protection, when you pay others to kill members of that society you become an enemy, even if you consider them animals. Wouldn't you agree? I thought krakes were supposed to be intelligent."
"Thats not our list! we hunt drakes and sea beasts!" she indicates the name on the list "I didn't list any people" the confusion and fear rising in her voice "I didn't want any of these people dead"
The Dead Mother slammed her walking stick on the table, indicating that she would use it to hit her with next time. She gestured again.
"This is the list we found in your bar. It's the same list that does mention drakes. It's the only list we found."
She put her walking stick against the throat of the krake, pushing her head backwards.
"Your transgression has already caused the death of everyone else in the bar." The voice came from behind the krake. "Why don't you confess to your crime and make your death easy?"
"I never wrote that name! I know that pirates are protected on the reef. it must have been one of the new arrivals, they don't know how things work" the krake was shaking beneath the walking stick, tears were pooling against the wood "please just let me go, I promise I'll never let it happen again"
She removed the walking stick, and shook her head.
"That's unfortunate. We don't let anyone leave us alive." The voice said.
The Dead Mother had noted the krake's callous disregard for anyone else's life but her own though. It was normal that they begged and pleaded, usually they did it for everyone if they were a group. With Taumel around, she had another idea for a favour she wanted to ask of their spirit guide.
The Dead Mother leaned forward with a faint hint of a smile on her face. She made her gestures.
"Tell me, do you really not care for anyone of the others we captured? Some of them were your own. Would you buy your own life with such a heavy price?"
There was no room for lies or morals in this place, honestly and terrifiedly "yes, yes, I would, not without regret. I care for the others but they would sell me just as easily as I would sell them. the self comes first, then the secrets, then the world. that is how it has always been for us. if this is an offer I accept. if this is to break them it is unnecessary"
She raised an eyebrow, but nodded somewhat approvingly. The lack of loyalty would need to be beaten into her, one way or the other, but her indifference to the deaths of those she didn't know was a start.
The Dead Mother got up from the table, gestured to the figure behind the krake and left the room. The figure behind her came closer.
"It will be the interests of the reef above anything else from now on for you. Our secret is second." The figure grabbed her head and slammed it against the table. "Your supposed self is worthless."

Taumel - 13/30 Ap, 2mp - The Lucent Reef
Taumel was convinced the following week that it would be in everyone's best interest if the Black Hand was granted the favour that the Dead Mother asked for. It would allow them to remain secret and hidden, assuring loyalty in any recruits, while letting them evolve and grow like they had been unable too when they had to rely on the trustworthiness of an individual.
The decorated krakes they had captured were kept locked up until they could swear the oath they needed to swear. Everyone else was disposed of, as they had no need for them. The Dead Mother made just another sacrifice for her order in getting this item, and cut off her own left hand for Taumel to enchant.

Anyone who holds it while swearing allegiance to the order of the Black Hand becomes bound for life by the oath. They can't ever utter a word about the order to an outsider, and should they be forced through magic or other means they would die instantly.
It gives different benefits to those who swear the oath depending on what race they are. It gives them the same drawbacks though.
- A loss of self and individuality that may gnaw at some individuals until they go mad.
- They can't leave the order alive. The order will always be able to find them.
- They can't speak to outsiders about the order, and when forced too they die.
- They can feel emotions, but aren't allowed to act on them for their own selves.
- All their belongings and wealth go to the order.
- It's rare for anyone to live a long life in the order. The majority dies from trying to break the constrains, going mad or simply getting killed.
