Good old The Sun, stirring up a ridiculous amount of controversy over lies just for a laugh. The sad thing is there will be the, how shall we say, "slower" members of the public who actually believe that this game encourages sex parties and swinging parties. If only.

The Sun always makes me laugh, what with the page 3 girls, any news to do with breasts or sex gets the best coverage, and then they go on about 'disgusting perverts and peados in the same breath. But then it makes me sad that people actually think that whats written in the sun is actaul 'news' istead of over the top rubbish and fear mongering.

Sorry. I dislike The Sun.

Too bad tabloid fear mongering gets in the way of what would otherwise be a very interesting discussion. Technically the only thing that the game shows is tame cartoon characters, but should the context of what the game is suggesting you do or how it is advertised affect its rating? And if it should, what age range is suggesting sexual activities appropriate for? In the UK the age of consent is 16, but its illegal for people under the age of 18 to buy pornography (which kind of emphasises that we really don't have a clue how to rate this kind of stuff).
Also, I notice none of the tabloids seem to care about the spin the bottle toy on amazon which encourages kissing, has no age rating and which the manufacturers recommend for 9 year olds! GASP

Ubisoft, you're not helping the video game industry look like you're appealing to a mature audience. You're making us look like children and sex criminals. I can understand you want to appeal to an older audience and make sort of a for-adults sexy board game, I get that. But in case you haven't noticed, video games have kind of an image problem right now, and a game such as We Dare isn't going to help that.

And the appropriate response to ignorance and prejudice is to adapt to please it? To limit options on substance in favour of a populist goal of retaining "image" with the on this subject ignorant masses?

Sounds a bit like American politics to me. Lets not go down that road.

I also think that viewing sex as something negative is a much bigger deal in the US than Europe - where the organizations complaining holds little sway or influence - and the game isn't released in the US, so the puritanism there remain quite unchallenged by it.

OT: Who the hell am going to buy something rated 12+ on the Wii to spice up their sex life? Even if it didn't already look like crappy shovelware?

What happens in those trailers has NOTHING to do with game content
... and EVERYTHING to do with selling the game.
As for not coming out in America, can't really say I care either way.

Still, I wish Ubisoft would get a clue about how this is just drawing attention to a title that barely anyone will buy, and will stir up some stupid controversy. I thought they said they were going to stop making this sort of shitty shovelware anyway.

The trouble with applying "context" to rating decisions is that it makes everything subjective, which utterly nullifies their value. Ratings must be purely factual; decisions beyond that are entirely the purview of parents. The optics might be a bit bad on this one, but PEGI is absolutely right to stand its ground.

This is really too bad. the wii does have potential for a decent "adult" game but as has been mentioned before this is looking like a $50 game of "Nervous", "spin the bottle", and "truth or dare".

I was over these games when I was 11.

Man, I love the fact that what they're basically doing is selling a $50 bottle with red lipstick on it and calling it "Ultra Mature Spin The Bottle For Adults(tm)". One smooth marketing campaign later and they might actually turn this into a thing, somehow.

One can't help but admire the balls on the marketing exec who came up with this one.
