technically speaking the game and its visuals are probably not all that inappropriate, but the actions it has to do on the other hand could likely be considered much more within adult territory.
Pikmin is not a mini-game collection. I don't know why you would think such a thing.Dooly95 said:That's right, it's pretty much a minigame compliation, like Pikmin or Warioware (?).
But don't you see! The evil, dirty video game made him do it! At least that's what the other idiots who the first idiot stripped for, and the other idiot parents and protest groups will say when the news gets out. They are, after all, idiots who have no concept of personal responsibility. Let's hope Ubisoft never makes a game called "We Jump Off A Bridge."danpascooch said:If some idiot strips in front of his TV, that's not really the game showing you inappropriate stuff, it's the idiot stripping.

You're making us look like children and sex criminals. I can understand you want to appeal to an older audience and make sort of a for-adults sexy board game, I get that. But in case you haven't noticed, video games have kind of an image problem right now, and a game such as We Dare isn't going to help that.
Agreed. Fully and entirely agreed. The Great JT said:Ubisoft, you're not helping the video game industry look like you're appealing to a mature audience. Wow really? It is making us look like sex criminals? 4 consenting adults having some sexual fun is defined as sex criminals now? And I hate to tell you this but books, games, movies and art all have a "image problem" if you ask the right people. But games do have an image problem It isn't just with Faux news and the likes because they can be easily distracted by shiny objects. No the real image problem is the paranoia coming from "gamers" who jump at every shadow. That is where the real image problem is coming from. Not from blowhards like Jack Thompson that most people realize is just some crazy old man yelling at the kids on his lawn. The Great JT said:Ubisoft, you're not helping the video game industry look like you're appealing to a mature audience. Good old The Sun, stirring up a ridiculous amount of controversy over lies just for a laugh. The sad thing is there will be the, how shall we say, "slower" members of the public who actually believe that this game encourages sex parties and swinging parties. If only.Andy Chalk said:Nonetheless, The Sun [http://www.ubi.com] reported that one version of the infamous YouTube trailer ends with the couples swapping partners and going off to have sex, while another has all four of them "romping together."

Glad somebody else had a good laugh at the Sun's expense. I don't think we have much to worry about...nobody takes the Sun seriously. Also, what's so bad about swinging parties? Bleh, nevermind. Tabloids will never be open-minded. It's like saying the Daily Mail might reconsider its stance on immigration and Princess Diana.Paddin said:Good old The Sun, stirring up a ridiculous amount of controversy over lies just for a laugh. Extra Credits watcher, i'll bet a fiver on it. The Great JT, you're not helping the gaming community look like we're a mature audience. You're actually making us seem like we're not mature enough to handle something like this. I can understand you care about the industry and want to improve our image, I get that. But in case you haven't noticed, video games have kind of an image problem right now, which is that we're not mature enough to handle mature game, and saying that we dare isn't good enough for the gaming community isn't going to help that.
In defence of the great JT, I think his problem might lie with the way ubisoft have marketed it as opposed to the game itself, it just looks bad, the same way the dead space 2 "your mom will hate it" advert, and because all of the Fox news-eseque supporters believe that video games are ONLY for children, and that this game is on the Wii, then they must be peddeling it to kids. If they'd just released the game and said "Yeah this is like a spin the bottle for adults on the Wii" as opposed to making a precursor to an orgy, this may have gone down better, as it looks like they're trying to be shocking for the sake of it.dogstile said:Extra Credits watcher, i'll bet a fiver on it. I think it's just because they don't have enough time to really explain everything, alot of their episodes could be decent mini essays, but they've only got 8 minutes to get through it, so they have to leave out a lot of stuff, if you check out some of the written stuff (ala Extra punctuation), you can see their point a bit more. Their intentions are good, and obviously the genuinely want to see the medium evolve, it's no worse than anyone else who believes that, it's just got a physical voice, and a lot of their points are very good.Trogdor1138 said:*claps*dogstile said:Extra Credits watcher, i'll bet a fiver on it. That was great
I've always thought the best way to improve the image of gaming is funnily enough not try and improve it. It just makes us look pretentious and desperate for the entire world to accept our hobby. I'm still on the fence about EC, I've liked some of their episodes but I felt others have had very flawed arguments and take themselves way too seriously. Gaming is a passion, but we just need to relax about it.

mm, I did sorta ramble a bit there ><, yeah the sex criminals bit was a bit stupid, and the sort of hyperbole Fox news would use, but yeah, silly marketing paints a bad image, is the lesson to be learned from this. I mean personally I don't care whether teens are playing it, the same way I don't care if they're watching porn, I suppose it could end up a bit creepy, but we seem to have established it's not actually that sexy at all, it's just it ends up with the anti-video game crowd screaming.dogstile said:Right, I snipped it down to the important bit.elvor0 said:In defence of the great JT, I think his problem might lie with the way ubisoft have marketed it as opposed to the game itself, it just looks bad, the same way the dead space 2 "your mom will hate it" advert, and because all of the Fox news-eseque supporters believe that video games are ONLY for children, and that this game is on the Wii, then they must be peddeling it to kids. To be fair, I kinda got what he was getting at, but I wanted to turn it around on him because that comment on making us look like sex criminals annoyed me a fair bit, because there's nothing wrong with the advert other than the fact it is extremely cringe worthy. Marketing wise I agree, silly move, but they did that with adults. If a kid gets brought this, and a kid understands what it all means, then thats the parents fault really.
When we get onto the topic of teens enjoying it, it changes a little bit, but i'm assuming teens are just going to "spin the bottle" if they want to.
