I was looking forward to it, the whole reason PD on the 64 was hit or miss for me was because of all the framerate and lagging issues. It was trying to emulate way to many sprites and affected gameplay. That would obviously be no problem for the XBOX.
Hell I think the only way they could ruin the remake in my eyes is if they didn't allow us to host custom (PUBLIC) multiplayer lobbies. A farsight only mode would be hilarious, as would timed mines only. Personally I never noticed much lag when I played it. Me and my friend would always do all slayer games with us 2 against a team of bots, and even when explosions were going off EVERYWHERE the game never seemed to lag. Obviously going back to it is horrendous, but that's to be expected of such an old game.
Yeah someone was talking to me the other day about the frame rate drop, but i use to play 4 player splitscreen all the time and had no problems at all.

But yeah ive been waiting for the XBL perfect dark to come out. I would hope they put internet connectivity with the game but it wasnt in the original so you might have to stick with local split screen.

I was under the impression this was a full-on remake rather than a straight port like other classic games, meaning they're adding stuff to it. I guess it's not such a big deal if it's not, but to me it seems like a missed opportunity.

Yeah it is so true!! I thin it would be stupid to not put it in if it is a full remake... it is so hard to find info on what they are doing with the game though.

well on mircosofts site it says

Players: 1-4
Players Co-op: 1-2
Multiplayer Versus
In-game Dolby Digital
Storage Device
Xbox LIVE Multiplayer
Leaderboards

so looks promissing.

As far as most know, the PD remake will contain:
- Constant 60fps
- Full 1080p resolution
- Online Combat Simulator with up to four players

Now, as for the things I have heard as rumours:
- Goldeneye guns usable in Combat Simulator
- Online co-op and counter-op with anywhere from two to four people
- Tweaks, thanks to Rare Witch Project who tested it. This could mean that things such as the Slayer with the All Weapons cheat, the bots' inability to detonate Remote Mines or effectively use the Shotgun and the ability to complete dD: Defection in six seconds, among other things may be fixed. Don't quote me on any of that, though.

It has been delayed to early 2010, sadly. The latest it could be released is March 21st, 2010. As for its actual release, nothing has been confirmed yet. The likely file size would be around half a gig, and should cost 1200 MSP if it's anything like the Banjo XBLA releases.

It may be worthy to note that PD's original N64 release was also delayed, and look how good that turned out.

So.. in your world, improving a game that many of us loved as children with features that todays gamers find attractive.. is a bad thing?
Depends on what and how you 'improve' the game.

The screens I've seen of it look promising, but if they go into and start rebalancing or worse 'reimagining' things that would be a disaster, especially if they re-record all the sounds. The current fashion for video game sound is to make all guns sound like an erratic stapler, it sucks and would suck harder for Perfect Darks guns that go BANG!!! to be replaced with plinky plonky pew pew noises from Modern Warfare or Halo.

There's also the permanent danger of hcarcters bein replaced with Americans, being revoiced, levels being re routed. All to ostensibly make improvements but in practice they never do, unless it's a Resident Evil scale remake, but ths isn't.

What I want is Perfect Dark (all of it, it was a massive game), but running sharper edges, a smoother frame rate, stable online play for the old local multi modes and custom options (again, all of them) and nothing else. That would make it great, might even give some moppets who've never played a non 'Halo Style' fps an education, which would be nice.

I hope not, one of the cheat unlockables required you to use that glitch.

Thanks, quite comprehensive information there. Sucks that it will be delayed, but at least we know its still happening.

Kiutu you're taking me too literally, I mean have it more of a true sequel to PD on the N64 than the sort of game PDZ was, and you could easily have a PDZ2 by having it set before PD but after PDZ2. Rare themselves even talked about the possibility of a 'Perfect Dark Zero 2' after the release of it, it obviously wouldn't be called that though if ever released.
