Because there's obviously nothing wrong with Controlled Atmosphere Killing, as they suggest.
Would you rather go quickly or be asphyxiated?

PETA reminds me of the little pekinese dogs that just sit there and yap constantly without doing a damn thing about anything, while their owners feed them prime steak.
I love how so many PETA supporters protest animal shelters that put down animals, but PETA puts down piles of them every year. Or how they're against any product developed through animal testing, but one of their VP's is diabetic and needs insulin to live. Hypocrisy, hilarious hypocrisy.
Weren't insulin discovered by Mengele through testing on jews and others not favored by the Nazis? Pretty sure I read something to that effect...

Wait did you guys read any of it ? I suggest you go look at the Controlled atmospheric killing video which is a nice informative video about viable options to killing birds rather than electrocution throat slitting and then scalding. All they want is the birds killed in a more humane way how is this a bad thing am i missing something here by being British?

I don't see why this action would result in even more PETA hate. They have a good point:

In the slaughterhouses of McDonald's U.S. and Canadian chicken suppliers, birds are dumped out of their transport crates and hung upside-down in metal shackles, which often results in broken bones, extreme bruising, and hemorrhaging. Workers have the opportunity to abuse live birds, and birds have their throats cut while they are still conscious. Many birds are immersed in tanks of scalding-hot water while they are still alive and able to feel pain.

McDonald's has the ability to end these abuses.

There is a less cruel method of chicken slaughter available to McDonald's suppliers called controlled-atmosphere killing, or CAK, and it would cost the corporation nothing to demand that its suppliers use it. CAK would eliminate the worst abuses currently suffered by chickens killed for McDonald's. In fact, a 2005 study about CAK produced by McDonald's concluded that it is far better for animals than the current method of slaughter.
So they want a quick and clean way to kill animals instead of having them suffer so long before being killed. Is that really such a bad cause? They're not asking McDonalds to close down all their stores and they're not asking people to stop visiting McDonalds. So I really have a hard time understanding the "DAMN YOU PETA!" and "PETA can go fuck itself" reactions.
So you want to eat poisoned chicken? chicken that has suffered for about 5 mins while they choked to death? Peta is retarded in their reasoning and honestly need to get lives other than animals. Maybe some of the few thousand starving children? just a thought.

Please, check both the site we're discussing and the source page on CAK [http://www.peta.org/cak/] before saying silly things.

What really sticks out for me is this:

McDonald's has the ability to end these abuses.
The fuck they do. If you're going to bash on someone, bash on the chicken farmers doing this shit. McDonald's isn't some evil empire dedicated to torturing animals. I'm pretty sure those farmers have more than one customer. Or they're bloody stupid.

Haha, 'I'm hatin' it'. Really, PETA? Is that what you could come up with?

I'm sure that's been said around playgrounds for years now.

the only thing i'm surprised at is PETA saying the animals should be slaughtered humanely. i thought they would demand McDonalds serve veggie burgers instead

In this case im with PETA, this advertisement campaign is aimed less at forcing people to become vegetarians but for the US food industry to stop practices that are incredibly cruel to the animal, but more importantly economically unviable. As PETA mentions on their site, CAK is already being used widely in the UK and EU, so why cant the US get off their arses and change.
The entirety of the US economy is based around old fashioned industrial practices and ideas that are not viable to todays market. Its why GM failed and Chevy is on the uppers whereas European and Eastern car manufacturers are still viable concerns. The US economy as a whole needs to change not because of ethical failings but more because it is a failure as a whole.

You know, death by asphyxiation seems a pretty shitty way to die as well...

If you wanted to be 'Humane', you'd need a two-stage system; one where you pump the chamber full of KO gas, and THEN you suffocate the birds.

I'm guessing that doesn't happen. I'm also guessing the birds are concious enough to be AWARE they are suffocating, because it's just cheaper that way.

I remain skeptical about PETA; shock-tactics are typically the tool of someone who doesn't have good evidence and moral standing.

How peta actually works:

We are PETA we don't use our money to help animals we use it to advertise ouselves for more money. Yes you heard us we use our adverise money to advertise ouselves and get rich while advertising to get richer. And yes we don't give a shit about your animals, money first everything else last.

I realize now just how psychotic I truly am. When I saw that image of Ronald McDonald stalking with a butchers knife I actually unconsciously reached for my wallet and keys so I could go steal a giant cardboard cutout of it and worship it, just like a god. And as I continued reading, the more amused I became... and hungry.

I don't care about PETA, they're a bunch of asinine dipshits who are losing popularity, and credibility every day.

One thing I do appreciate is that my food suffers before it reaches my stomach. That actually satisfied me on a profound level I should probably tell my shrink about, I keep his head on the wall; top row, third shelf.

This hits close to the heart for me, seeing as I got Happy Meals until I was twelve (braces for mocking laugher). PETA just surpassed the Taliban on my personal "Go to Hell" list. I hope they learn sooner or later that their tactics cause more people to turn against them than support them (optimism is quickly crushed when I remember that PETAs whole campaign is bulit around shocking people senseless)

Cruelty... You know what that means. ITS BASH TIME!

<+Huitzil> PETA is starting a campaign stating that the secret ingredient in KFC chicken is "cruelty"
<+Huitzil> cruelty is apparently the most fucking delicious thing on Earth
<@Dracos> Yes. It is.
<@Dracos> Which is why veal is the best food ever.

So obviously cruelty is the most delicious thing on earth. I am now going to add it to all my meals.
I have vegemite on toast, I have to kick a kitten off a cliff.
A bowl of cereal, pitchfork a puppy.
You my friend, know what advertising is. Seriously PETA dig themselves big holes and no one cares. I lost respect for them ages ago.
And I would just like to say that I dont give a shit if they are killed so cruely if they even are. It tastes nice and thats life.

Vegetarians are stupid. Vegans are retarded. Simple, we were made to be the dominant animal on the planet so bloody well act like it PETA!

PETA's just a bunch of self-righteous assholes who rely on shock value and the exploitation of women to try and make a point while behind our backs they kill a vast majority of the stray animals they "save".
