Why is it brainwashing? Isn't it meant for kids who are interested in vegetarianism/veganism to find information they cannot find somewhere else? I mean, sure, the means are not really that great and the feel of aggression I get from reading the site is not so appealing to me, but if a kid wants to be a vegetarian and wants to find some justification to present to his or her family, what should he or she do? Sure, nowadays, there's a lot more information all over the internet, so you don't really have to be restricted to PETA. From my own experience, I would have been more than glad if I was able to find some information like this when I was 5-10 years old. I know I'd become a vegetarian much sooner and help myself greatly in the process.Kroxile said:On the contrary. I'm about as liberal as you get, but when you see this clear brainwashing propaganda BS its best to call them out on it. And as a liberal, I find that trying to take away someone's liberties (see what I did there?) to be the epitome of evil.JacobShaftoe said:Wow. PETA = evil? Where the fuck does this attitude come from?
Did I miss the part where liking games = being an aspy cockmuncher who hates all lifeforms incapable of being lol'd at in a forum?
Where'd this idea that being nice to animals = communist dictatorship or some bullshit? Are you all Republican Fox news rejects or what the fuck?
They're not taking anyone's liberties away; they are informing those that want information. Unless vegetarian/vegan parents are forcing their kids to also be vegetarians/vegans against their will. But that's the fault of shit parents, not some PETA site. Besides, if a kid stumbles upon that page or someone shows it to him or her, so what? What harm can come from trying to be a vegetarian or a vegan? Sure, if you're uneducated and don't know how to do it properly, you'll get sick. However, if you do it right and you end up liking it, it's brainwashing? Well, if they end up not liking it, they'll stop being vegetarian. I find it ridiculous to condemn the whole idea before even trying it out properly. If a kid has a "phase" and wants to try it out, let them try it out.
Anyway, I'm not a PETA supporter and it gets on my nerves when I say "I'm a vegetarian" and everyone assumes I'm that crazy activist that molests other people. So I avoid using the term "vegetarian" because it somehow implies connections to PETA. If I say "I don't eat meat", nobody says a thing. I know PETA is not really a little angelic organization and I'd like if they would just stop giving vegetarians and vegans a bad name.
Well, from my own experience, this is completely untrue. I was eating meat for 18 years and I was deficient in iron for 18 years. The doctors couldn't quite believe it themselves and everybody kept asking me if I was a vegetarian. I wasn't. Now I am (almost 5 years) and my iron is fine. It's lower than average, but it's better than before (I inherited anaemia so I don't think I'll ever get rid of it). The point is, while I was eating meat and was deficient in iron, I felt weak and terrible and I couldn't do any type of activity that involved being active for more than 10 minutes. Now I don't eat meat, my iron is better and I have no problems with walking all day long, skiing, swimming or riding a bicycle. Talk about weird.gyroscopeboy said:It will make you deficient in iron though...although they have tablets for that.
