If this increases the chances of Del Toro working on "At the Mountains of Madness" sometime in the near future, I am all for it.

Guillermo has made some of my all time favorites movies, I had high hopes to see how the movie would come together, but I respect his decision, he's a human afterall and like many of us, he have a life and many things to pursue in life.

And I'm very proud to live in the same city he was born and even more proud to see him at a movie festival here in Guadalajara.

Also, I wouldn't mind if Guillermo passes the torch to Peter Jackson, he already did a couple of (very brief) scenes of The Hobbit in the original trilogy, so if anyone knows how to do a LotR movie, is him.

As long as Uwe Boll and Michael Bay stays away from this, I'm more than happy. -_-'

Yay, another inevitable four hour Jackson epic.

Del Toro was the only reason I was looking forward to this.

Last I heard, the studio wanted to split the book (which can be read, at a conservative estimate, in three hours) into two seperate films. Sure, they make more money like that, but there simply isn't enough story in The Hobbit.

Still, if it's going to be made, I want someone like Jackson making it, who can really bring the world to life. I found Hellboy 2 to be utterly disappointing, and Pan's Labyrinth (while pretty) never really did much for me. The LoTR films, on the other hand, I could watch until my eyes bled. Which if you buy all the extended special editions, they probably will - and it is worth it!

Not a fan of Del Toro at all, Pan's Labyrinth came across as paper thin to me, but I seem to be the only person that never really got into it, big fan of Peter Jackson though, so I'm hoping he ends up in the director's chair for this.

Oh praise be to god. I've waited for this moment and it is as sweet and delicious as I thought it would be.

Personally, the hobbit could be 19 hours long per movie and I wouldn't care. As long as I get more Lord of the Rings action and Weta Workshop gets buckets of money to do what they do best!

MUST. HAVE. JACKSON.

If we can't get Peter Jackson for this movie, I think I'll cry.

But if he can't, who should?
If it's neither of them? I would say Terry Gilliam. He can do trippy damn well (better than anyone) and that book is pretty trippy.

I definitely remember hearing that it was going to be two movies, and I believe the theory was that the first was going to end with Bilbo's getting the Ring.

Either way, I know that Jackson is very invested in these movies, so I expect it not to be a rolling ball of fail, but the only thing that could cock it up would be the studio issues...

It'll probably be another 10 years before they see the light of day.

I hope Jackson gets this. He'd be better than most others considering that he directed LOTR.

On a pessimistic note, I really hope this doesn't end up being delayed another year or two.
It's a long enough time as it is

I just wanna see Smaug! I'll be happy then. But in all seriousness can't honestly think of who I would want to do it, if Jackson and Del Torro weren't doing it.

You're not the only one. Del Toro's movies have a beautiful visual design, but the story and performances are always pretty bad.

Please Pete, pleeeaaase take the helm of this movie!

I wouldn't mind it if Peter Jackson took up the role of directing the film, even if the budget is being pushed to its edge, as this man was famous in the first place for making brilliant low-budget films!
(Bad Taste, and Braindead are two of my top 10 films of all time! :D)
