What... How... What it this I dont even... WHAT????
Well, Tolkien probably didn't get bored and overuse the word "****" for the lolz while coming up with the books[footnote]Evidently there's not much to do on-set between takes, though apparently getting drunk and pissing in fountains was an option[/footnote]. That's the closest thing to a sensible answer I can come up with.

.... I'm with him. I actually hated the Lord of the Rings books. They were extremely long winded and entirely dialogue driven (I know, I know, In a book. Who woulda guessed?)

Like the Hobbit though,

Dammit, Jackson, you're making it hard for me to maintain my cinema-related cynicism.

Just seeing McKellan and Serkis on the sound stage again... The child-like glee it instills in me. Damn, I want to go back to New Zealand just to be within a thousand miles of such an undertaking.

Peter Jackson: "My prediction is its all going to go incredibly well on the day, don't you think?"

Gandalf: ".............................erm."

lol XD

Good to see that The Hobbit is finally getting its time in the lime light! Am looking forward to it :)

Well now. Isn't that something? Call me a blasphemer, but I always liked the Hobbit more than what came after, and I'm excited to see it getting the portrayal it deserves.

And dammit, those last words just sent my spine crawling. It'll be worth the wait. Call me an optimist, but it'll be worth it.

Exactly what I thought when I saw him. You know stuff gets real when Gandalf is back on the set. :D

Man, its been 12 years since they started work on the first one? Doesn't feel that long. And I barely recognise Peter Jackson, but then again, I haven't seen a recent photo of him in quite a while. Looking forward to this; the Hobbit was the only one of the the series I actually read the whole of and enjoyed it.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS?

December 2012.
Seriously.
If they plan to release this AFTER the world ends, I'ma be pissed at him in the afterlife.

If however this movie comes out the day before, I think we can all say we're ready to go.

Wow. That stirred up some surprisingly deep feelings. I'm not even really sure what to say.

(Except that Peter Jackson looks completely different now. I hope he's just lost weight and doesn't have cancer or something.)

The world will end December 20th, so if they go by the same schedule as the old movies, we're good, (around December 10. This will still leave us hanging, as we still wont get to see movie 2

I guess Jackson is getting older too, but he really looks kind of frail and exhausted compared to when he made LotR.
I looks like he lost about a hundred pounds too.
He also used to have good head of hair and a nice bushy beard. Ain't much left of that either.

It's almost like the LotR franchise is eating the guy alive.
You might say that he's looking thin, and stretched - like butter, scraped over too much bread.

I hear that's what happens when you keep the ring for too long...

Peter Jackson Sends Video Blog Back from Middle Earth

[facebook_video=10150223186041807 height=225]

After far too long in limbo, The Hobbit movies are underway, and their director appropriately enough has caught the moment on camera.

Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings movies, has recorded a video blog from the set of The Hobbit movies and posted it on his Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/pages/Peter-Jackson/141884481557] page. The video was recorded just before filming started on the movies, and gives a glimpse into what it's like recreating Middle Earth in New Zealand.

Jackson showed off a few of the sets for the films. Some of them will look rather familiar - hardly surprisingly as they've appeared before in Lord of the Rings movies - while others, like the caves under the Misty Mountains, are brand new. We also get to see a fight rehearsal, and the very early stages of the scene where the young Bilbo - played by Martin Freeman - and the company of dwarves. We also get a look at the huge number of costumes needed for the movie, and get glimpses of how some of the props are made. Finally, Jackson shared the Maori welcoming ceremony that marked the first day of filming

It's amazing to see how much care and attention to detail Jackson and his crew is taking with the movie. Jackson clearly has a great deal of love for the source material, and it really shows. Of course, it's rather special to see Jackson on set at all, as he wasn't supposed to be directing The Hobbit movies. That job was supposed to be Guillermo del Toro's, but he had to pull out [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101056-Peter-Jackson-Might-Direct-The-Hobbit-After-All] due to scheduling conflicts as the movies suffered delay after delay.

The first part of The Hobbit hits theaters in December next year.

"Well he fought with the goblins! He battled a Troll! He riddled with Gollum! A Magic Ring He Stole! He was chased by Wolves, Lost in the forest, Escaped in a barrel from the Elf King's Halls! Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins, bravest little hobbit of them all" >_> Couldn't resist. Enjoy that spoiler and blame LegendaryFrog.
