This subject stems from a little trouble I'm having with mine, you see there is a lot of almost duplicate things.

I have Browser as an internet browser but I also have Chrome. I have gmail, email and mobile mail. I have music, play music and double twist. I have maps and navigon. Why do I need 2 or 3 of these programmes? I tried deleting all the google ones but guess who just downloads themselves a couple of hours later?

To have some discussion, what phone do you have? Pro's and con's? Would you recommend it to anybody?

I have a San Diego, besides the above problem with it I am quite happy with it. Nice big screen, able to do things quickly ... battery kind of sucks though, one charge = one day.

I would say it's a good alternative to the iphone, I've never had an iphone but it does have a bigger screen which is what I like in a phone.

The downside is that the system specs are a bit mediocre and internal storage is a massive issue, meaning I can only install a few apps. I've also used it to do a bit of development for Android so there's also that I guess.

I'd quite like to get a step up to maybe an S3, the Galaxy phones are awesome but the newer ones are in an entirely different league. Not to mention they all run on Android 4.X.

HTC 8X, first off.

While I can't really go out of my way and suggest you dump Android for Windows, like I did, I can honestly say that if your not invested in a phone platform yet, Windows 8 Mobile works just fine. This is basically the only smart phone I've ever had that never had any issues, what so ever. Very stable.

As for your problem, it is possible to keep Google programs from re-installing. It varies from phone to phone, though, so maybe it's not for the San Diego.

I have an HTC Wildfire. Most colossal piece of shit ever. Forget the phone's outdated specs and outdated version of Android, where this phone truly is never worth getting is in memory. How much do you think the phone has? 4GBs? Maybe even 2GBs?

150MBs of storage. Isn't it a crying shame that the smallest storage size on the original iPhone, which came out six years ago, has over fifty-three times more memory than this? And the freaking thing has to dedicate at least 90MBs to the undeleteable, unused apps preloaded on the phone. 10MBs for Twitter app you never use, 10MBs for a Facebook app you never use and still isn't well optimized, 10MBs for a YouTube app for your slow, spotty Internet connection. Oh look, three apps that I hardly use have already taken up one-fifth of the phones total memory. You can't even transfer most of those apps to the miniSD (thank god it has that), because it has to be preloaded on the phone. Getting the software online that uninstalls the preloaded apps simply doesn't run, either, so I'm constantly having to delete my three-or-so apps my memory allows so it can make room for the next update to the market.

Some phones have programs you aren't allowed to delete. The iPhone doesn't let you delete its Stocks, Weather, Passbook, Games Center, or Reminders app, and according to my dad there's a few programs Android won't let you delete, either. It's like the way a Windows computer just comes with Windows Live, Outlook, and Solitaire. You can download your own apps that do the same things and use those, but unfortunately most of the programs that were on your phone when you first got it are there to stay.

I have an iPhone 5, and I had to find and install Facebook and Twitter as apps when I got the phone. There are other apps that the phone came with that I can't delete, but Facebook and Twitter aren't them. I installed those on my own, and I can delete them anytime I want.

As with all things with a commercial bent, it's all about choice... here, have a little something from everything seems to be its intent with chucking loads of different programs that do essentially the same thing.

Thankfully, I set up for bins for all the apps that I use, so I don't even have to look at the crap I don't use. And there's a lot I don't use... but eh... I use it as a phone and for browsing and that's it... cough up about USD20 a month for the horror of using a phone with one of the shitest key-pads ever made... >_> ...

Yup, sounds about right. Sorry man, but that's just how smartphones are. Just as computers are loaded down with programs you're encouraged to use for the sake of marketing, phones are loaded down with the same crap for the same reasons.

Okay, lets be fair. The Google Apps Suite takes up, at best, 100MB out of you 16GB internal memory. Not a particularly huge portion.

How does the Intel in that thing run, anyway? I heard that the Atoms are performing far better then most people expected (Though, to be fair, everyone seems to hate Intel and predict they'll fall flat on their face every time they release a product now a days).

I have an AT&T Fusion 2, basically a rebranded Huawei phone. I use a prepaid plan, so that's what I'm stuck with unless I want to shell out beaucoup bucks for a better phone.

It works fine, but it has Android Gingerbread on it, and it is slooooooow. Not unusable, but frustrating nonetheless.

Nope, you can remove Windows Live essentials and you can enable/disable the OS games via Window Features.

It's amazing array of features include:
-Actual buttons.
-Battery that lasts more than 15 minutes.
-The ability to ring and text people.
-Is a phone.

You can keep your smart "phones".
Sure they're expensive, get covered in cheeto grease, go out of their way to crack their own screen and turn their owner's into part phone part zombie human hybrid monsters of uber doom.

But that lifestyle just is not for me.
I think I took a different turn in evolution to the rest of the world.
Rather than evolving into a superior being with a phone permanently grafted to my brain.
I evolved into a being who doesn't require a wifi connection to function.

Try going to your app manager and uninstall the updates for the app. After that, you should be able to disable the app and it won't even show up in your list anymore. I think I'm right. I've never heard of the San Diego though. Obviously they'll still be on your phone though but they'll be out of site. Fucking Facebook, Twitter, and bloatware apps I never use. I keep running out of on board memory cause I only got 500 megabytes. I'll be happy when I root my phone get rid of that shit for good. At least my carrier is small so they don't add their own apps

Anyway, I got an HTC Sensation. Its lasted me a good while and I use it for everything. Its pretty durable too considering I've dropped it a few times. I also like way HTC chooses to color balance their screens. Most phones are saturated but I like it nice and neutral. But I'm mostly looking forward to my next phone, an HTC One. Dat aluminum grip, big 4.7 inch 1080p screen, 32 gigs of NAND flash, and a quad core processor... I think I have some kind of fetish for smart phones. Thing is, I use mine for everything cause just about any app I need I can use on android

Loled. I never understand people who take pride in old phones. Use whatever suits you best, be it android, iOS, Windows, or a flip phone or a full keyboard. I won't judge (out loud)

I have an HTC Droid Eris.

It's an ok phone. At the time I got it the specs were decent, but they weren't anything particularly impressive, and that was 4 years ago. To tell the truth though, the outdated specs never bothered me because the only reason I got it was that I needed something that could check email on the go for college (so that I got emails from professors when they cancelled classes).

I really do like the phone. While it's underpowered, the battery lasts a pretty decent while (usually 3 or 4 days). I don't keep the internet on all the time, just switch it on once or twice a day, or whenever I need to look something up, so the fact that the internet on it is a little slow doesn't bother me. The really nice thing about this phone though is how well it fits in the hand. It's very comfortable with a kind of satin finish.

All in all, I'm not rushing off to get a new phone. I'll get something when this thing dies, or when the battery starts going, but as it stands it's more than good enough for the things I do. Unlike other people it's not something that I constantly fiddle with, nor do I use my phone as a status symbol.

Sorry if it came off like that, just tired of seeing generation after generation becoming so dependent on phones, I don't get it. I'll meet up with people and within minutes they're all staring down at their freaking phones. What happened to quality human interaction?
Am I not allowed to have a conversation with a friend until I've got their socialize app or something?
Don't have anything against smartphones or smartphone users, but day in day out it's just maddening seeing people obsess over phones.

Once you have the ability to ring and text people you have a phone, anything else is just extra shit that isn't worth it to me. What can a smartphone give me, that makes forking out for £500+ worth it?
Unless theres an app that can print legitimate bank notes for me, I'm not interested.

I don't take pride in having an old phone, I just don't see the point of upgrading.
But I agree, I'm happy with my phone as it does what it needs to, I assume you're happy with yours. Who cares, it's not important, let's move swiftly on with our lives.
