When someone says they made a bee line for something. Have you ever seen the way a bee flies? It's not quickly and in a straight line.......

We have this expression in Swedish for when something is really easy, we say "It's like a dance on roses". It always bugged me that it doesn't say "dance on rose petals", because a dance on roses doesn't seem easy at all, on the contrary, I imagine that would hurt quite a bit :-/

OT: "Right as rain." I have no idea why things could be "Right as rain."
because falling water is capitalist?
OT: "ignorance is bliss." and "racism is ignorance." together.
that would mean racism is bliss.
which it isnt.
But then in the same way I could go "right is rain" and "rain is wet", therefore it's right to be wet. And yes, giggity et cetera.

OT: Touch wood. Are trees Satanists now and must be avoided so fate doesn't come after you?

"have your cake and eat it too." If I have a cake, it's because I'm going to eat it.

So... Go crazy.
You either have cake or you've eaten it. If you've eaten it you no longer have it.

OT: Its all good.
Why? Because it can't be all good. Herpes is never good, and even if things are good for you, somewhere in the world there is someone with herpes ready to infect you.

Have your cake and eat it is so simple.

You can either have a cake, or you can eat the cake.
If you eat it, you have no cake left.
If you save your cake and just have it in your hand, you can't eat it.

Having your cake and eating it too means you get to eat cake, but you still have a cake left afterwards.

What is so confusing about that?

"Happy as a clam."

Whoever said clams were happy? They're stuck in shells they're entire lives and the only time they see day light is if they're getting wrenched open to be eaten... sounds pretty miserable to me.

when i was a kid and i would say something wasnt fair someone would always say "lifes not fair"

its not so much that i dont understand the concept, i just dont see how its good advice and not just cynical and dehumanizing

so i guess i just dont understand why people say it

INB4 "I could care less"

Edit: Head over Heels, My head is generally over my heels, regardless of mood.
That's because retards say it wrong.

It's "I couldn't care less."
YES!
anytime I correct people with the phrase " I could care less" telling them it makes no sense
I go into this type of rant

Most recently seen on facebook (bastion of all wisdom and knowledge)... xxx likes "not breaking your promise because your promises are legit"

What exactly is an illegitimate promise?

"I'll give you something to cry about" makes sense in this context because even though the person is crying, the other person is implying that the other scenario they are thinking about is much worse.

In other words, you say it to trivialize someones problem or intimidate them further.

I'm with you on that one. Maybe the person who first said it didn't really think about it but they were smart so everyone else assumed it somehow made sense?

From my knowledge this is an american phrase that was changed from "I couldn't care less"
David Mitchell has done an episode with it.

It's not over until the Fat Lady Sings. (I know the origin of the phrase)

I believe Portal 2 is somewhat of an exception.
