"have your cake and eat it too." If I have a cake, it's because I'm going to eat it.

So... Go crazy.

Umad?

But yeah, that one is a head-scratcher when I hear people use it.

OT: "Right as rain." I have no idea why things could be "Right as rain."

That's because retards say it wrong.

It's "I couldn't care less."

It's to do with agriculture. No rain meant no crops.

As far as "I could care less" goes, it's obviously a corruption of some sort. The phrase in England is "I couldn't care less" which actually makes sense. :/

Must be an American reversal of definition, like 'to table/tabling'. We're English, so 'to table' means 'to address an issue' which makes sense ('to table' = 'put it on the table', you can see that, right?), but in American English, 'to table' means 'cease addressing an issue'... *shrug*

OT: Don't really have one, I understand most and can't remember the ones I don't. *shuts window*

I still don't see the connection between whining and tiny violins. It isn't like it makes a difference.

I remember as a child my sister burst into tears and my dad said "if you don't be quiet i'll give you something to cry about".

Er, dad ... she's already crying numbnuts your comment made no sense.

Another parent one and i'm guilty of using this myself.

"Dad, can we go to the beach"

"No"

"Aww dad why not?"

"Just because"

Just because. Because bloody what?

Looks like you already beat me to it. I get the sentiment behind the saying, but there has to be a better analogy to express it.

I've always wondered what the phrase "Free Pony Rides" means, it seems that it has a different meaning depending on where you look or who you ask.

Girl Next Door.

Any girls I've lived next door to were pug fugly and/or total bitches. None of that is reflected in the stereotypical "girl next door".

"You can ____ 'till the cows come home."
Why aren't the cows already home? And why would I do something until my cows come back? Also:
"You can go tell that to Joe Blow down the street for all I care!"
????

If I've already had my cake, there's none left for me to eat.

It was originally I couldn't care less. Y'know, because that actually made sense.

Violin music is usually sad.
