So, let's say you're chatting with this guy/girl. You're hitting it off pretty well, and he/she asks for a picture! Do you google "hawt dude/chick" and send the person this one, or do you send one of yourself?

Either I 1) Don't show them. or 2) Direct them to my devArt page.

Im guessing this is an online chat then

I'd send one of myself, wouldnt send a false one and then have her well up with disappointment if she ever met me

It's probably best to send a picture of yourself - that being said, I don't usually send pics of myself anyway (largely due to the fact that I have very few, and none of them are on my computer, so it's just too much of a hassle)

I don't usually send pictures of myself, but I'm less likely to send a picture of someone else =o

I don't provide online pictures. I have enough stalkers in real life.

I don't send a picture, but link her to my facebook. She probably already has my facebook, so she's already seen my picture. Ergo, she wouldn't need to ask. So your argument is invalid.

Maybe talk to a real person to ensure they're not a 70 year old man who Googled 'hawt chick' to lure you away from your PC to get attacked.

I would probably tell them they aren't as interested as they think they are.
And if they respond that they are, I would just tell them I probably look better in their heads.
And if they still insist, I would tell them that I would prefer not to.

By this point, any decent human being will have given up and changed the subject.
I still have not formulated what the hell I'm going to do if anyone continues to insist beyond that.

I don't think I've ever talked to anyone online who didn't already know what I looked like. However I'd probably link them to some of my pictures already floating around the net, they're also probably the least flattering pics I could possibly show them...

This.

It doesn't seem to happen as much as it used to, but i was lurking in chat rooms back in the mid-to-late 90's, and it was a regular thing to be asked for a scan of my wang.

Does that kind of stuff still happen?

Man chat rooms were a WEIRD place, back then..

personally though i've never had that sort of chat with someone i don't already know in RL so it hasn't been an issue. however if i was certain they weren't:
1) a man
2) anymore than mildly psychotic
3) over twice my age
4) and lice free

Then i would probably send a real pic of me as it would be less embrasseing later.

I had a girl send me a fake picture once, it was kinda funny when we (almost) met and instead of stopping at the coffee shop I just kept driving. Later she messaged me asking why I didn't show up and I replied that I did, but didn't see the girl in the picture so I didn't stop.

Lesson: Just send your real picture if you are trying to talk to girls online.
