I have very few pictures of myself, but I guess I could simply save the best picture of me on Facebook onto my PC and send that. I'lln be honest, but there's nothing wrong with sending a good picture rather than a generic one :). Though the question never really arises for me anyway, as I don't really bother with IM that much.

I put my picture up here, I don't know why anyone should be afraid.

Unless, of course, you are chatting to a person in some bizarre fetish chatroom. Then, pictures might not be good publicity.

I don't chat online.

If I did, I sure as heck wouldn't send a pic.

There are crazy people out there, you know. >>

Lots of interesting answers here!
Reason I did ask, though: is because I know this gay dude who uses pictures of porno-actresses, who aren't that well known, as his avatar/sends them to guys he flirts with online. Which is a very.. mean thing to do, I guess.

I've never been in that situation, but if I did, I'd probably just link them to my Facebook page.
I don't have many pictures of myself; I'm not really photogenic...

Send a pic of myself. If she eventually wants to shag you and you show up to the predetermined meeting place and you look nothing like the Brad Pitt photo you sent, your chances of getting laid are officially zero.

Googling a fake picture to purposely attempt to deceive someone for no reason is idiotic. If you don't want to show them a picture of yourself, have the balls to say no.

Can't say that I've ever been in this situation, but I wouldn't send a fake photo should I ever find myself in a similar one.

Most people I've seen and met, either online or in rl are rather close to scum level(my own personal standards), so unless a person proves otherwise no communication, even the ppl I know better and would be willing to consider friends know little more than half-true statements about me and no idea what-so-ever as to what I look like. The shadows is where I like to be

I also know people who uses pics of their friends as their avatar and such when chatting with people online... Probably even worse considering they also betray their friends like that

I only trust one person I met online enough to send her real pics of me, which is exactly what I did. I see no reason to lie to her, it would help anyway. Plus I hate lying to people I actually really care about, so I don't.

Very rarely I put pics of myself on forums, only if I'm well-known enough with the community.

Something similar happened to a peer of mine, except he was posting pictures of a girlfriend he didn't have. So sad yet extremely funny.
