Well if I remember correctly from all those years ago there is a town in the pokemon games that is all about the death of a beloved pokemon I can't remember the name of the town at the moment I think it's where you battle that psychic person, oh wait I remember Lavender Town.

From what I remember, there was this one episode of Pokemon where Ash and the gang meet this surfer who has a Pikachu who is pretty old. So I assume if Pokemon age, then they have to die sometime as well.

I wonder what they'd taste like?

I mean, we could be talking a new food source here.

Edit: WAIT!! I forgot about cubone. it wears the skull of its dead mother.... so i guess they can
Wow, that's weird... Do all female Cubones/whatever it morphs into die in birth? (so the baby can wear the skull).
Cubone looks a hell of a lot like the Kangaskhan baby. It's believed that if the mother lives through the child's...childhood, it will mature into a Kangaskhan, whereas if the mother dies, it becomes a Cubone and eventually a Marowak.

Pure speculation, of course.

That was slightly disturbing.

My first thought when I saw the topic: "Pickachu is dead, long live pickachu!"

More on topic: I figure they die and decompose. We just don't see it because where's the fun in seeing a pokemon (or anything for that matter, except maybe a zombie) in a state of decomposition?

As many have said before me; Of course pokemon can die.

And you all know what that means!

Pokedex entries also suggest that some species of pokemon are carnivorous, so unless you'd rather assume that they eat people, I think it's safe to say that they feed off smaller, weaker pokemon.

Kabutops:
"With sharp claws, this ferocious, ancient Pokémon rips apart prey and sucks their body fluids."

Victreebel:
"Lures prey with the sweet aroma of honey. Swallowed whole, the prey is melted in a day, bones and all."

Well, isn't that just lovely...

Remember when they said Charizard(mander/meleon) would die if his flame died out.

But yeah, it's a kids show.
They do die.

most pokemon can die just like everyone else

as stated before there is a pokemon graveyard in lavender town of the kanto region (red/blue/yellow/gold/sliver/firered/leafgreen/heartgold/soulsliver)
and there is a second one called the lost tower in the sinnoh region (diamond/pearl/platium)

ghost types being actual ghosts are probably immune to death also being pretty much god of everything i suppose so is arceus for that matter

Also no one has died on the actual show death has happened within the movies
a latios and a lucario have both died saving the main characters asses (pokemon heros and lucario and the mystery of mew)

Other people get pissed off at the nurse in the Pokemon Centre, right? We hope to see you again? Oh, so you want me to loose battles and for my Pokemon to be beaten almost to death? Thanks a lot, you harlot.

This is Professor Nietzsche. He's been a friend to your family for years. He'll help you start on your Pokemon journey.

The professor hands you a somber black pokeball and simply states:

"Pikachu is dead."

What a great introduction to the wide world of Pokemon!
Quoted for win.

[your name] got a pokedex!

Professor Nietzsche: To create an index of every pokemon in the world... That was how I chose to give my life meaning...

But I can't do it anymore! I'm too old, meaning I failed at the values I assigned myself. Therefore my quest for existance was pointless.

So now I want you to complete my quest for me!

man when you think about it pokemon heroes has some messed up shit in it because its shown that latios and latias are brother and sister and he in the end dies protecting the city from a giant machine thing and then during the happy end bit they show latias flying by with baby latias and latios in tow... so eather she did it with her own brother or someone in that town likes bestiality

ewwww...

There's that big tower in Lavender Town with loads of gravestones in it.

This video is slightly on topic, but probably not for Pikachu fans.

well yeah, there's the thing with the skull, also in Gen 1 (and remakes) Team Rocket is said to have killed a Marowak, you battle her ghost. also, Charmander and evos are said to die when their flames go out. and yes, pokemon do leave corpses, they're buried at pokemon tower, remember? although i'd imagine ghost types and pokemon like Koffing do just poof away

nooo! legendaries don't breed (least of all within families) most likely latios' residual energy just congregated and manifested itself into several younger latios. simple when you think about it :D also, it's likely that Latios and Latias are just very close friends who have a brother-sister relationship (hence the no breeding thing)

There's a perfectly reasonable explanation for this after the jump: http://awkwardzombie.com/index.php?page=0&comic=101110

actually interspark there have been plenty of instances of baby legandarys in the anime and games now

its believed the no breeding thing is just put in the games to prevent a flood of legandarys from breaking the games and the GTS really

Yeah, like everyone says, there's a pokemon graveyard in Lavender Town, but you never actually get to see a pokemon die.

Also, am I the only one who was never bothered by Lavender Town when I was younger?
