Even though I'd rather see a new Metal Gear game a 3D remake of Snake Eater (by my opnion the best entry in the franchise) would be pretty awesome. I just still find it hard to believe this really works. In my opinion 3D in movies hasn't transended beyond anything more than a gimmick and I still find it hard to believe it's possible to get a truly three-dimensional effect without the need for glasses.
Wow, if someone told me two years ago that Nintendo was actually going to steal the show at E3 2010, I never would have believed them. I'm certainly sold on this. Besides, I NEED a new DS, my old one is barely still working <_<
EDIT: Hold up, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory? That's kind of random to me, it's like if they suddenly announced Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. But as one of the few people who didn't mind the initial DS port, I'm interested to see where they're going with this.
They already have 64gb flash cards avaialable with rumours of 128gb units along the way. Sony's Blu Ray disks were sitting pretty on 25gb (soon to be 33gb) disks. The new 3DS games can be both huge and pretty.
I don't think Nintendo enjoy producing games and hardware as much as the feeling they get when they make the competition feel small and insignificant.
I knew this would steal the show, I just didn't expect this many quality games. I mean, the first party games alone are enough to justify a purchase come launch, but amazing third party too? I know what my most anticipated product in the upcoming months will be!
Pilotwings? Oh my god Nintendo I love you ;_; I miss that series so bad, and I'm so glad to see a revival of it. And I really hope "Shin Megami Tensei" is a remake of the old Shin Megami Tensei games, since I've played all the other games in that list. Though I really love Etrian Odyssey and don't want to keep stealing my boyfriend's copy.
While I'm sill skeptical about how well the 3DS will work, I have to say I'm wonderfully amazed at the level of support the handheld is getting already.
Wait a minute....they are releasing a new Super Robot Taisen upon launch?!?! :O
I don't know how to feel about this. On one hand, any new SRW ("taisen" is Japanese for "war(s)", hence why it is also called Super Robot Wars or SRW) can only be a good thing. On the other, though, I fear that, due to the whole 3D aspect, they will decide to create the game in 3D super-deformed models rather then the heavy stylized 2D. They did so with SRW GC (for the GameCube) and SRW NEO (for the Wii).....both times to rather abysmal results:
Now compare that to something like SRW MX and Z (both for the PS2) as well as SRW K (for the DS):
I don't know about you, but I find the 2D style much better. That said, the most recent title in the franchise OG Saga Lord of Elemental(for the DS) does handle 3D rather well (not perfect, but well) by using non-super deformed models:

If it was implemented like this, then I wouldn't necessarilly mind it. Somehow, though, I fear they might decide for the 3D super-deformed style in order to make "full use" of the 3D technology. =/
Main topic: I must say, I am really impressed with the lineup Nintendo has posted for their new handheld. They generally always had a headstart over the competition with a strong opening library of games, but this one easily tops all their previous lineups. Not only do they have a large number of well-known IP's ready for the release of the 3DS, there is a lot of variety to be had among them. From fighting games and action platformers to strategy RPG's and third-person shooters and even sports and rhythm games. If this were another handheld console race, the 3DS would have plowed through any competition.
Having said that, it might do so anyway. While others may argue that Nintendo should have waited for the competition to make the first move, I actually think the timing of this is rather perfect for Nintendo. Their only major competitor on the market, Sony, has barely now recuperated their costs for developing the PSP and have started to make a profit. By releasing a new handheld now, Nintendo will kill whatever momentum the PSP might have gained in recent times. In addition, by the time Sony unveils a potential successor to the PSP, the 3DS will be cheaper and will have a large library of games at it's back. This means that if Sony tries to pull their previous stunt of providing a technologically advanced and expensive handheld, it will crash and burn before it even had a chance to stretch it's wings.
One thing that I do find interesting, however, is that most of these games are catered to the core gamer audience. This is kind of suprising, considering Nintendo was always the type to expand the gaming audience rather then focus on their already existing crowd. That said, there do appear to be a few games that are suitable for the non-core gamers (again, so much variety among these games!) and, considering the whole recent popularity of 3D, the ability to take photos in 3D will probably greatly appeal to them.
-blink- -blink-
I... just... there's so much... awesome...
Wait! What's this on my wallet. Its a leech stamped with the Nintendo logo. I just got the last one off too...
FREAKING SWEET!! Console Gaming may be on the decline but it looks like the portable consoles are doing alright. 3D isn't as bad a gimmick as the motion control anyway. I can't wait to see how 3D will come into play for the mandatory Japan-only 'dating sims' ^__________^
CHOCOBO RACING!!! STAR FOX!!! [sorry: I'm excited]
