Really I'm more into the heavy metal farmer scene.
I hope that exists somewhere.

"Pirate Metal" is lame, Running Wild and Cauldron Black Ram are the only bands who sing about pirates and don't make themselves look bad.

ARGH, NINJA'D.

OT: Alestorm is the only good pirate themed band... They happen to be one of my favourite bands though!

also

I prefer war metal or whatever the hell you call it
War Metal are bands like: Truppensturm, Revenge, Proclamation, Blasphemophager,...
I doubt you like any of those if you listen to Sabaton.

I enjoy Ninja Metal more, i.e. silent, mute - but deadly.

It plays in a subtle bass tone that makes virgin ears shit themselves.
thankyou so much, i genuinely laughed at that. something i havent done in a while to a single post.

OT: Korpiklanni(?) is by far the best in norse folk metal. any of their drinking songs are just awsomesauce, Vodka, Beer Beer, Lets Drink.

I have, indeed, and I also like Alestorm most. Gets boring (for me) after a few weeks though..

No such thing as pirate metal.

Its power metal with a pirate focused lyrics and image.

EDIT: Or folk metal metal with pirate image and lyrics, like some say.

Yeah what this guy said. Its not really pirate metal it metal with pirate focus lyrics.

THe only pirate themed metal bands I know of are Swashbuckle. Theyre alright I guess, their album had some cool little chanty themed songs throughout.

But there are no specific "pirate" melodies, or structures or harmonies. There is no "Pirate" music theory.
You make a very good point. Ok, I'm persuaded.

Basically metal with an accordion in the background. It's not really it's own genre but all the same, I do like alestorm. Songs are fairly decent (well.. a few are) but on stage they are pretty decent I've heard. Videos showing the lead guitarist using someone's foam cutlass as a plectrum and then proceeding to air guitar (literally) a blow up flaming pink guitar during his brief moment of silence. You gotta appreciate the musicians who are on stage to have fun too.

Do listen to Alestorm, seriously. They really are a lot better than Swashbuckle, in almost every way, in my opinion.

Thats pretty sick. I almost deafened myself because theres 15 seconds of silence and I thought my earphones were down low so I turned them up then there goes the neighbourhood.

I'm not too pushed on the vocals though, kinda sounds like a drunken scottish guy pretending to be a pirate.

EDIT: My mistake I thought they were finnish. It is a scottish guy pretending to be a pirate. Makes a lot more sense

You've pretty much nailed it there. Still, I like them, mainly because he's actually singing in his own accent, rather than affecting one.
Yeah I thought they were finnish which is why the scottish accent seemed so wierd. It made sense when i found out theyre actually scottish

Alestorm are OK I guess, however nothing Pirate-themed can compare to "Weird Beard" by Mad Caddies!
